I see from the news that someone from Nottingham was caught driving back from London at 110 mph, justifying his journey by saying he'd been to London to buy bread because it was cheaper there. Sure, and I bet it had nothing at all to do with the chance to go 50% over the speed limit on an empty motorway. (Almost empty, anyway, because there appears to have been a police car on it.)
(Only 110? A couple of weeks ago I was passed by a motorbike that, when I worked it out from the dashcam footage, was doing 150 on a dual carriageway. Insane.)

Overheard a neighbour talking about how her husband drove past a barber's the other day, which was STILL OPEN with an enormous queue outside. Apparently it has been reported, and I should bleeding well hope so! In better news, I made some mini sticky toffee puddings with toffee sauce and it was a success, to my surprise. The kitchen looked like a bomb had gone off with all the mess I'd made but it was worth it! I would've shared some with the neighbours, but it was so good I had to keep them all myself

Knee dislocation recovery day 3, even though it feels like day 1 million. Got a bit clever today and ended up reversing my progress from yesterday by thinking I can walk around without crutches. I know this is a great time to not be able to walk because we can't leave the house anyway but it's proving incredibly challenging because I live alone. My small success of the day is the trip to the Sainsbury's local (from an upstairs flat!) and finding the balance to stand over the stove and cook a proper meal instead of sitting at the microwave.
Amazing how one wrong move that took a second is keeping me off my feet for possibly weeks.

Well after seeing on here about the couch to 5k I looked it up and myself and partner gave it a go starting today! As it was on the NHS website I thought it must be safe! Day one went ok, I am not too unfit as I used to spend most of my working life on my feet, but running is a different matter! Well will see how it goes anyway. If something positive can come from it then all to the good. We did it early so we would not be seen!! Will keep you updated as to how the challenge goes!! My first recruits. Hurrah! Welcome Quads might ache tomorrow, calves a litte but it will pass quickly. If you stick to the plan you will get there - it's worked for so many. GPs even prescribe it nowadays.
The NHS website doesn't say it explicitly, but the general idea is week 11 (of the 10 !) is to go along to your local parkrun. That's a great target as well.

londonpostie, I might join you too! I went from being a total couch potato, to a half-marathon runner, and then back to being a couch potato (well, I don't even have a couch here, so that's not entirely true!) since I've moved to London (which will be... 9 months in a few days) and I miss running so much. Work has been insane these last days, but I think I'll put on my running shoes tomorrow and see how far they take me. Even if it's just around the corner. :)

Hopefully you have a nice park close by. You sound young and healthy so maybe you don't a weekly plan to get you to 5K. Here it is though - fwiw I started at week 4 and use the alarm app on my phone:
Good luck anyway, and let us know how you get on

Woke from another amazingly lucid dream.
Appears my subconscious is compensating for its waking solitude by having absurdly entertaining dreams that require a cast that would put Leopoldstadt to shame.

My body has just given up on sleeping, which is really annoying - last night was a record 3.5 hours to get to sleep (and before anyone asks, I have tried everything to wind down before bed!). I think the stress of isolated working and living alone is just really getting to me, and being exhausted all day doesn't help.
Wish I could do something like couch to 5k to tire me out but my knees won't take outdoor running. I desperately miss being able to go to the gym, the lack of it is now causing so many problems.

Sharing here for all those who cant get out and get shopping and cant get supermarket delivery...this is really good. Stuff comes straight from Morrisons warehouse via DPD next day delivery, chilled. Meat box typically containers sausages, steak mince, cheese, PASTA, chicken breasts, bacon etc etc. Twitter search shows more but looks very good and at £35 good value too. There is a veggie one to choose if preferred. Please dont use if you can get food but this is DELIVERED TO YOUR DOOR if needed and delivery dates are close (click though order to see when) If it goes out of stock check back later as they keep putting more up. www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/how-it-works

That's helpful - I have noticed families who are isolating and can't get delivery slots.
In related news, I was in Lidl by 7.30 this morning and out by 7.45, fully loaded. I am due a Couch to 5k today but will leave it until things quieten down in the park ... with everything else going on, families won't want a wild-eyed lump lurching towards them.

Lovely day today 😳 Not sure the building trade have grasped this lockdown thing. From back of my house I can hear three building projects, one big extension job which you can see when you walk down the adjacent road. Then sawing from somewhere else and god knows what. It is like being on a building site to be honest. I can’t complain because i have a garden and can sit there all day if I want to. But even in normal times I don’t recall such activity. I think the sawing is making the wooden joists for the extension. So maybe it will quieten down when they have done this. I’m sorry for the people who like a bit of noise and bustle. Too quiet prob for them!
So onward we go.

Well there is an argument that says that despite official comments, the Gov may not have fully deserted the 'herd immunity' idea. Peak looks to be 7-10 days away. Capacity looks okay but the NHS will need those new ventilators this week.

At least you are finding yours entertaining. I keep on having nightmares about social distancing not working.

Cat owners are being advised to keep their cats indoors because of the possibility that the coronavirus could be transmitted from person to person on the cat's fur. This means, of course, that you can no longer pet random cats you see in the street unless you first wash them in soapy water for twenty seconds, after which you have to hope you can make it to A+E before you bleed out.

No they are not. That was a BBC misrepresentation this morning.

It’s a great way to ease into running, just take it nice and easy, do it at your own pace, do not compare yourself with anyone else and remember it’s a process to get you running for 5k OR 30 minutes NOT necessarily 5k IN 30 minutes as some seem to think. I did eventually manage that and more but only because it was a challenge I set myself and found, despite never previously having any interest in running, I was actually not bad at it! Good luck with it!

I've just received my letter from the government about the pandemic. I washed my hands after handling it because irony can be hilarious but not when it happens to you.
I don't know what's going on with the first line of the fourth paragraph on the back.

I efficiently moved mine from the letterbox to the recycling bin without opening it - I feel like I've read the spoilers already.

Satisfying long walk yesterday and though I've tried every time to pick routes likely to be less known or popular, yesterday's actually was, for some unknown reason. Only a handful of solo walkers all day, near villages, though a fair number of solo cyclists who of course whizzed by on the other side of the lane or track, so social distancing successfully maintained throughout.

I have been out gardening in my garden. (I figured that was the best place to do the gardening.)
My garden has been neglected for several years. While digging up weeds I found a trowel that isn't mine. It certainly doesn't predate my moving here and it's in good condition so I have no idea where it can have come from.

I have also been busy in my garden today. Well I ate lunch there and just had a nice cup of tea with a slice of Simnal cake. It was the gardeners day off. 😁

Made what is becoming a weekly trip to shop by car. Queue for Waitrose looked slightly shorter than last week but actually took me 10 minutes longer (45 minutes this time) to enter the store; then, as last week, I was in and out in about 10 minutes as I put my shopping in a basket (or two) rather than a slow and unwieldy trolley, and pay at the self-service tills. But since, as last time, I could only get a small part of my essential shopping there, I then went to the nearby Tesco where I queued for a full hour - though again, I was out in less than 15 minutes. That's my shopping done for another week and I was even home in time for a late lunch, though as a precaution I had taken it with me this time.
