My brother in law telling his two year old son he shouldn't be carrying a dolly as he was a boy not a girl and me telling him he was prehistoric but knowing it was useless as along with crying, the colour pink etc. it's something him and all the men in the family have a 'view' on when it comes to things boys should and shouldn't do. I despair.

My brother in law telling his two year old son he shouldn't be carrying a dolly as he was a boy not a girl Yet give the dolly camouflage clothes and a weapon and suddenly it would be fine, I'm sure. Many toy manufacturers seem to have abandoned the idea of the blue aisle and pink aisle. Partly it's a business decision — why target 50% of the market when you can aim for 100%? — but it's encouraging that they're no longer concerned that there might be a backlash.

Five minutes earlier my nephew had been using another dolly as a weapon to fend off his younger sister who kept trying to wake the first dolly up that he'd carefully put to bed. It's a tough life being a doll. Really is that true re manufacturers? The shops still seem to segregate, dinosaur pjs are for boys, flowers for girls so it would be start if manufacturers changed.

I remember my dad saying when he was small he used to push his cousin's doll's pram around until an older boy made fun of him.

There's a stream where I grew up that possibly still has one of my wellies in it.
The stream ran past someone's garden wall. I was walking along the top of the wall with some friends and one of them pushed me off and into the stream. (In my memory it was like falling over a cliff, but it was probably a two metre fall at most.) The mud and I fought over my boots and it ended up as a draw with one boot each. Given that I doubt anyone ever dredged the stream it may still be there, waiting for some future archaeologist to find it and deduce that it was placed there for ritual purposes.

It's probably formed it's own habitat @thematthew and has provided accommodation to generations of fish/frogs/water voles?
@theatremonkey I do have shoes that vary across 3 sizes I think and wellies are always a funny one especially if you factor in think socks or not.

Sorry just repeated the above post. I was posting something supportive but it just did work so anyway, peggs and Anita, I’m with you. An ex flatmate has just posted that 3 people stopped her today as she was out with her new baby daughter and were surprised to find she was a girl as she was in grey and green and actually told her she ought to put in something more recognisably girly so people could tell. Cos obviously that's important complete strangers knowing what gender your baby is

'What a lovely baby! How old?' Gender free conversations not difficult. People are generally daft, including me who can’t resist a new baby.

I decided to treat myself to a bag of soft fruit gums this morning. I got about a quarter of the way through the packet and felt an ominous crunch from a back tooth. It turns out that soft fruit gums are bad news for a filling that is already weakened, and this filling was the size of a small pea. So it's been a trip to the dentist to get a temporary filling and now I have to remember to eat only on one side.
According to the dental receptionist one of the worst tooth-killers is bread. I think it must be something in the way certain foods spread the pressure.

Hope it's not causing you any pain!

What a difference a week makes. At this exact time last Friday it was snowing, but today the sun is out and I've decided I'm wearing a couple of layers too many!

Dentists don't like doing emergency treatment when there's no pain, but from my point of view it was a matter of "You could park a moose in this hole, and although it may not be hurting ten minutes after it happened I don't want to trust that it will stay that way several days from now".

Yeah I know what you mean. Glad you got it sorted super speedy. Friday 13th appointment didn't even cross my mind until last week when I got the text reminder....fingers crossed!

Like you, it was already weakened as I’d previously had root canal treatment on that tooth. Who knew fruit gums could be such dangerous sweets?!

Had to have filling at dentist yesterday, he said tooth had crumbled away but maybe it was those dangerous fruit gums or bread. He was having a lot of trouble getting it done due to its position whilst I lay wishing he wasn't going to say I'd have to come back another time. Then wandered round for hours with what felt like swollen cheek. The relief though when they let you leave.

Ouch on all the dentistry. I once lost a tooth on a Quality Street toffee penny but fortunately it was a baby tooth so wasn't a problem. In fact, given I was terrified of having my baby teeth removed & would have them hanging on by a thread for weeks, it probably did me a favour.

Today found out cos I'm not management I'm expected to bring tea/coffee/sugar/milk and cups for the 18 other people. Oh and get the train. My profile will clearly say mug.
