On way to Australia. Father in Law has been diagnosed with cancer so we are very lucky that school finished yesterday and we can take off for two weeks to make some memories. It has been four years since we last came...daughter was 9 months old and much less mobile last time. Now she’s the wriggliest four year old alive.
Please send me any spare patience you have, and tissues.

About two hours after heading out this morning I suddenly started worrying because I remembered opening a downstairs window this morning and thinking "I need to close that before I go out" but I had no memory of actually closing it. Cue many hours of worrying that this would be the one day when someone decided to prowl around the back of the house.
Eventually the worry was too much so I came home. The window was closed, of course. I'm relieved I hadn't made a stupid mistake, but annoyed with myself for not remembering that I hadn't made a stupid mistake.

Today I had breakfast with one of my closest friends who has moved to London now so I don't get to see very often. AND narrowly avoided a parking ticket by about 3 cars width in the process. Win. Oh also we announced auditions for my play today. Any Cardiff-ish actors do throw a hat in the ring (or a cake) link |

Discovered The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Rachel Brosnahan is most definitely marvelous. Indeed she is. The most difficult acting assignment I can think of is for an actor to play a stand-up comic and be credible on stage. Many fine actors have failed at this including Tom Hanks and Dustin Hoffman. Rachel Brosnahan totally succeeds. I completely bought her performance on all levels. A great actress in a great show. |

Spend some of the weekend pondering how today's late teens / early 20s date. Back in my day (after chaperones, during what is now being cleaned up in #metoo) I remember we sort of nervously asked a lady to the cinema or a drink or something - and actually held a conversation. If it was a really good date, the stammering from both would become proper chat. So, over the weekend, the weather was good, the young couples were out... walking side by side staring at their phones. Do they now text each other throughout? Curious. I mean I can't speak directly for either demographic, but being closer to ones in their 20s, a mix of yes 'app dating' and the same as y'all did...as much as App dating is very much a thing, and yes we all communicate by text a lot more....generally most successful relationships I know are still of the 'friend of a friend asked me out/met at a party' and/or the tried and tested 'we were both drunk at a...' obviously still endures.... Yes we all are centred on our phones, but we're also fully capable of putting them down to have a conversation (or you know other stuff) |

There seems to be too much jumping straight into bed, then seeing if it progresses into a relationship after. From what I've heard this seems to be accepted as the norm for some younger people. I actually wish it was more like the old days when you'd get to know each other as friends first! I have been on a bunch of dates in the last few years (thanks to dating apps) where no one was on their phone however. I think that starts happening once the relationship develops as it does among friends. I'm always the one who loudly says "Well this is a GREAT conversation!" when everyone is staring at their phone and not talking to each other.

Hey, spreadsheet software. When I type 3/4/2019 it is very obviously a date, especially since I typed it in a column that is set to display values as dates. Changing it to ¾/2019 is not helpful.

I’m currently sat in a hotel restaurant in Spain enjoying a free upgrade from half board to all inclusive thanks to the hotel admin double booking hotel rooms. So a few of us are in a separate hotel down the road while everyone else is in the correct hotel. We go back to the right hotel tomorrow but still with the all inclusive while everyone else is still on half board.

Hasty re-organised Edinburgh trip for Local Hero, matinee cancelled due to power failure, evening show confirmed as going ahead at 3:30, seat changed for the evening, cheap hotel booked and return flight changed to tomorrow.
Now to settle into an unplanned evening in Edinburgh which will likely involve a single malt or two after the show.

Apparently it's not just ensuite - it is full-on James Bond ninja facilities: "Hidden behind the bed is a walk in showering cubicle, low-level WC and a wash hand basin, exposed floorboards and radiators." !!! SECRET HIDDEN BATHROOM Apparently Bedroom Two (Electric Boogaloo) has an ensuite and then there's another separate walk-in shower room. The whole thing is WILD. |

Searching websites for microwaves is only slightly more fun than comparing the quality of clear plastic wallets online. So I went technical. And bought an orange one. You do know they can be repaired, right? We all need to start using the Earth's precious resources more wisely. 🌍 If it's the cost that's worrying you, I'm sure you'd find a warm welcome at your local Repair Cafe. And I think even Jonathan Bailey would draw the line at an orange microwave. It won't 'alf clash with your shaker units and granite effect worktop! 🙂 |
