My youngest son is a Beatles fan despite not being born until after they split. He's been asking me about "Let it Be" as posters appearing everywhere around Welling & Bexleyheath. He knows I have seen the show in London before. He has just told me to keep a particular evening free in October as he has bought tickets for us to see it in Dartford.

So I got a new job on Thursday, which is very exciting, they seem nice but my current job. Oh jesus. I cannot resign until my bonus has been paid because • Employees must not have resigned their position and be working their contractual notice period at the time bonus payments are made I am a ball of pent up rage. I am lying to colleagues/customers about everything and the only person I can confide in is my colleague who is resigning the same day. I feel like I might explode and just want to go home and eat my homemade bakewell tart Miserable. Surely a bonus is a bonus for something done up to a certain time?

Yes, but it’s meant to be an incentive for future work too - it’s quite common for anyone who has handed in their notice not to get one.

SERIOUSLY bad news for those of us who rely on American Express free credit cards. Amex are pulling the licence from Lloyds, and Lloyds are replacing the free Amex card with a MasterCard. That means no more free priority booking and bookshop discounts at the NT unless you can find an alternative free Amex issuer or fork out for Amex membership. You may now break the glass and place the panic hats provided on your heads. Thank you. Not all cards directly from Amex require you to pay a fee...

Yeah, my Amex card came directly from Amex, has no annual fee, and has absolutely zero association with Lloyds or Avios or anything that isn't American Express themselves, I'm not sure this is the universal catastrophe you're suggesting...?

I literally went to AmericanExpress.com, asked it to show me personal cards with no annual fee, and chose the first one that looked reasonable. I wasn't looking for anything fancy or rewarding, so just took a Platinum Cashback card.

Where do you get your cards from, please, that would be helpful? From the report I read, it seems Amex are totally shaking up the Lloyds and BA ones and reviewing everything else. All alternatives welcomed. The American Express website - american express.com/uk (the first result on a Google search). And I just applied directly through that website for a Platinum Cashback card - there are several other options too depending on how much you spend. I knew about the BA one (useless for me as I don't fly often enough) but had no idea there were any Amex cards linked to Lloyds at all!

All alternatives welcomed. They launched a new fee-free one a little while ago, it's green and earns membership rewards. Though I would suggest going for the gold one - fee-free for the first year, 20k MR points when you spend £2k in the first 3 months, and 2 free airport lounge passes - and then getting downgraded to the green one after the first year. I'd be delighted to refer anyone who is interested - you get a higher bonus and I'd get a few extra avios too. The BA card hasn't closed yet - I'm hanging on to that for as long as I can as back-up. Lloyds ones are definitely on the way out, Virgin ones have already closed....

Lloyds were an Avios-earning card, they stopped offering the fee-free version to new customers some time ago. There was a version with a £25 fee that was well worth it for me because it had an upgrade voucher perk you could earn each year - I used that to get to NZ and back in business class for my trip this year. I'm afraid the airmiles game is getting a lot harder to play, what with Tesco direct (source of a lot of cheap points) closing, Amex co-branded credit cards closing (the cap on interchange fees meant they can't fund the rewards anymore, since most people using a rewards card re-pay in full each month), and earning rates on the replacement cards being very low. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I genuinely just want to cry right now. Bad day at school, it rained pretty much all day, and my bus broke down, leaving me to walk miles to get home.

I went to Sainsbury's in Bicester today. There's a large "Sainsbury's" sign made from individual letters at the front of the store, and last year an enterprising pigeon had built a nest in the curve at the bottom of the middle s. People used to look out for the pigeon as they stood on the travelator behind the sign, and it was rather disappointing to notice that a few months ago someone put pigeon-deterring spikes all over the letters. So I was rather pleased to note that this year the pigeon — or perhaps a different pigeon — is refusing to give up on what appears to be a desirable nesting site. It has covered the spikes in twigs and built a nest on top of them. Your move, Sainsbury's. The pigeon has upgraded its accommodation and has moved from the small S in the middle of the Sainsbury's sign to the large S at the start. At this point I think the store might as well admit defeat and put up nesting boxes.

Does the job and all that jazz.

In answer to the actual thread: not day but weekend was perfectly lovely (if a little damp at the end). Went to London. Saw the ever incredible Ms Britney (bitch). Spent time with friends. Had a brunch of Eggs Benedict that inexplicably (but most satisfyingly) came with chips. Not bad going overall.

Of course they’ll still make a judgement on whether you’re likely to default or not, but anyone with a decent credit history should be ok.

My day started by dealing with a consultant who set off the crash alarm by getting his sleeve stuck on it and nobody being able to turn it off.
I then had an interesting meeting as 'Dr AIDS'
And came home and nearly had a snake thrown in my face. I wish the latter was a euphemism.

I was going to post something about paint colours, but now I want to hear the snake story.

It's less exciting than it sounds. Basically I arrive to find the Mother mowing the lawn she (luckily) pauses to talk to me. As we talk there's a snake happily slithering through the long grass towards the mower. I grab a child's pink plastic spade (like you do) and a plant pot and chase said snake across the lawn a bit hoping to get him/her out of the path of death. Mother then takes the implements, scoops him/her up however fails to realise that snakes, well slither. As the snake nearly escapes she jumps, snake goes flying towards me....I duck, avoiding snake in the face by centimetres.
We then recaptured it, and sent it on it's merry way into the bushes.

I was stopped by a chugger who asked me a question which I didn't hear properly. So i asked him to repeat it. "Do you know anyone who is deaf or hard of hearing?", he said..So then of course I was too embarrassed to escape his patter.

And then tell him to ‘stop mumbling!’ Then walk off complaining about young people today. Of course the best thing to do is not stop for chuggers in the first place.

It's my Birthday (I know I don't look that old) but the big news is that my Mother got me (wait for a it) a Colin the Caterpillar cake from M&S. That's the stuff of actual childhood dreams.
