Perhaps you were wasting time on an online forum and not paying due attention to what is important? Probably.

Everyone makes mistakes. Sometimes you're more likely to make a mistake if you're too focused on a thing, you're just too close to it to be able to take the necessary editorial step backwards. Noticing the mistake is half the battle, so I hope you're at least able to move forward from here without too much more hassle, kathryn . We'll see what the editor says. Basically, I assigned the wrong article to the July issue of the journal, and only just realised. Just a stupid moment of inattention selecting the wrong article. The article that should be going in hasn't even been copyedited yet, because we have a backlog and were prioritising articles that are assigned to the next 2 issues. If the editors are nice they'll let me switch it with the article that is nearly ready that I selected by mistake, if not the copyeditor will edit it tomorrow and I'll have to ask the typesetter to prioritise the proof and we'll try to rush it through. The issue was already likely to be late because they just sent me the last article for it last week, and it should really have gone to press already. So it doesn't make a great deal of difference, it's just so incredibly annoying when it's my mistake.

Still very hot and humid for walking but I am limited as to when I can go, so I did. Hoped I might at least manage more than on Sunday but in fact it was less. Oh well, at least I tried, and I'm still recovering with my tea and caramel chocolate cake (I have to try any new variety I spot), even if I haven't entirely earned it.

ETA: Day already improved by @theatremonkey (I mean what day isn't improved by the Monkey anyway) teaching me a great new insult "Henwomble" as an alternative to "Cockwomble" This now makes far more sense having found the Twitter exchange! I'm impressed you can manage any walking in this heat. Personally, being currently between temp jobs, I've just stayed inside with all the curtains drawn for the last 5 days!

Transcribing a video in which a Swiss speaks German is the ultimate nightmare. Doesn't sound too bad if you ask me! Then again my high German is awful so I guess I can understand your problem.

I hope you said "I haven't actually" and explained in excruxiating detail just how wrong s/he was. I couldn't do what you've done, congratulations on all your hard work. I bet you look great. Aaah thanks Baemax I did a "I've lost 3 stone actually, thank you" and walked straight off, hearing him say "Oh" as I did. Then I swore and shouted afterwards in my head...probably for the best! I recall a few years ago, when I had been attending a slimming class. We were allowed one really naughty treat per week, and I chose to have mine (a rather gooey cake, if I remember correctly) on Saturday morning in a local café. I'd already lost a stone in a reasonably short space of time, so wasn't too thrilled to be addressed by: "Ooh, you don't want to eat that, you'll get fat." Totally ruined my 'treat'.

*whispers* has it actually gotten cooler?!
Also it's barely 9am and I'm enjoying that there's an unholy mess going on that for once is nothing to do with me...

Yup, after sweltering for half the night, I awoke actually cold. So now I've been able to do some overdue cleaning I couldn't face during the heatwave.

There are ominous rumbles of thunder but it's lovely and cool. A couple of days ago I went shopping at 07:30 and it was already starting to get too hot for me. This is great.

I'm just glad that I can finally head out to work without putting on sunscreen first. 7am is an absurd time to have to apply sunscreen.

Edinburgh wasn't the part of "Heatwave Action", we had a nice thunderstorm last night. I must say, thunderstorms are one of the things I miss, since moving "from the continent".

Am about to start 3rd day of babysitting grandkids - nursery run. Rumbles of thunder outside - it may be pouring for all I know. Just had email to ask if I can make shore they stay dry. Also sayingneed me to look after them Saturday morning. Replied "No". - West End live will not be refused!

Will people please stop talking about rain? I have a great seat for On The Town in Regent's Park this afternoon.

Talking about rain should be safe enough, it's when people talk about the glorious sunshine that the weather is most likely to take a turn for the worse.
