So as an update from yesterday I cried no fewer than 5 times across the course of the day for various reasons. Got angry. Cried some more. (anyone want to employ an ex-academic, will write, research and teach for food- just not salad)
So today I brought a sandwich and crisps. So at least my lunchtime will be improved.

Not been a bad morning at all. Been working on some script ideas for October that pick up threads from a recent collaborative event

My friend is very active at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh. I never thought much about it, but I went to couple of events and found it to be really interesting. Some people have brilliant way with words. Hope you'll enjoy it!

I'm intrigued to hear where you went and how you got on. There's a storytelling centre at a local university and there are several regular storytelling nights dotted around the area but it still feels a bit underground. Which is good in some ways - it hasn't been corrupted by commerce!

It's at Crafty Devil Brewing featuring (according to their event info) Dan Tyte, Rhys Milsom, Eric Ngalle Charles.

I just found out that Carousel from Lincoln Center (2013 I think) with Kelli O'Hara, Jessie Mueller, et al. is available on DVD on amazon.com (not available in the UK unfortunately). A colleague is going to states soon and has kindly offered to bring it back for me.

Sad to hear of Jonathan Demme passing away - I hadn't seen much of what he'd done since he made Rachel Getting Married, but he made some cracking films from the mid 80s-90s (Stop Making Sense, Something Wild, Married To The Mob, The Silence Of The Lambs and Philadelphia among them). I didn't know he'd been ill through the last few years (or that he was in his mid 70s, maybe because he didn't have a massive media presence in his country but I always pictured him as being in his 50s or 60s) There doesn't seem too many film-makers of his quality left these days - R.I.P.

Totally agree. I had the chance to meet him once - he was a lovely man.

On a very selfish note, I'm just enjoying having a day at home to myself with OH out! I spend so little time at home, and OH goes out so infrequently, that even an hour there to myself is like gold dust, so to have a whole day is like a mini-break, even if I've used it for mundane matters such as cleaning, shopping, admin, etc. Also done some e-learning for my voluntary work, which I can't do when OH is in because I need order, peace and quiet in order to concentrate, whereas OH needs constant loud music, newspapers strewn about, half-drunk cups of coffee all over the place, etc.

Failed to accomplish several basic tasks and potentially exposed myself to asbestos (the two were unrelated). #winning

Well I've had a brilliant day. Spent 30 mins in garden before tripping over my own feet, catching a foot on an outside light, slipping on some posts we'd just had delivered and crashing about 10" onto the patio shattering my right elbow. Nearly 4 hours in A & E, need to have an operation to repair it but they couldn't fit me in today so am now home sporting a very fetching backslab from wrist to shoulder. Hopefully, they can do it tomorrow but I have to get there about 8:30 and just wait..!

On the plus side, once you've recovered you could consider auditioning for the Goes Wrong shows: it sounds like you're a natural!

Thanks everyone. Yep, it was a pretty spectacular tumble if I do say so myself! And while I'd rather not have any operation, I hope they can do it tomorrow and get it over with, don't fancy spending any longer than I need to in hospital.
Hmmmm..might give the audition a miss though... :-)

Feeling an overwhelming sense of malaise lately. This weather hasn't helped. I need to go out and see some shows!
