Unable to find a thread specific to this issue but as lots of people here evidently use the app (yes, I have noted various codes to use and supposedly have my own, though goodness knows where I find it), I'm sure someone can help.
I really detest the permissions required to use the app so only download it when there's a specific production I want to see, then delete it again. I have entered the lottery SO many times but never won. However, though I always receive the email confirmation of my first entry via the app, I never have any indication of my second entry by sharing on Twitter, so how can I be sure that Todaytix have logged it?
The tweet always appears promptly in my timeline (though I do correct the terrible US English before posting it), so I know that part is working. Do others receive any confirmation of Twitter entries, please, and if so, how? I feel stupid enough having to tweet something like this so if it's not working, I'll cease embarrassing myself.

Just tried it to confirm what happens - if you open the app and go to "my orders", your lottery entry should be listed there saying "check back soon". Although I see what you mean about not seeing confirmation of the second entry - I don't either.
Also note as far as I can see you can delete the tweet as soon as it's sent - this is what I do with unlocking rush tickets.

Thank you, xanderl - so it seems as though you're not meant to receive any confirmation of further entries. It had never occurred to me to delete the tweet, so that's an interesting thought; I had assumed Todaytix would need it as proof but presumably they do receive some sort of automated notification from Twitter, even if users themselves don't. It'd still be useful to know one way or the other, though, as otherwise how can people tell whether the Twitter - and Facebook, if you use that - options are working? As if it wasn't, I'd want to find out why and fix the issue. Plus if people do win, how do they know which entry won? I shall try emailing Todaytix to ask...

My suspicion has always been that they don't work at all. Ooh, I'd never thought of that, andrew - I must be too trusting but indeed it could just be a sneaky trick to get more publicity for the app and the production. Interestingly, I had a fairly swift response from Todaytix support, not answering my question (not sure whether that was deliberate evasion or simply oversight), but mentioning in passing that 1400 people had entered the Dreamgirls ticket lottery today alone. Explains why it's so hard to win and inclines me to give up trying, so slim does that make the chance of winning.

For what it's worth, I have never won a Today Tix lottery either.
I actually find Today Tix to be one of the worst things to happen to the theatre community in the last year. I used to enjoy the day seat line so much. You'd meet new people through it, there was a fun camaraderie about the queuing, plus no show was ever truly off limits if you were willing to get up early enough. Today Tix has basically eaten into that community quite significantly, they're also spamming Twitter and Facebook with their entries and 1400 people competing for 15 day seats is just ridiculous. That's probably about 7 or 8 winners a day.
Ugh.

I'm not keen on Todaytix either, claireyfairy1, for the reasons you cite and also because as with so many apps, they demand ridiculous levels of access to your personal details - what possible need can they have to access your photos, for instance?
I really regret the loss of old-style day-seating and only resort to Todaytix if I want to see something and it is the only way to try to get a day seat. Though so far it hasn't worked for me and it makes it hard to plan your day as you need to have a back-up in mind; also, if, as lots of us here do, you see several things in one day, you risk missing an alert to say you have won because your phone is off as you are seeing a matinee of something else and have entered the lottery for an evening show.
It's probably win-win for the venues as they get so much publicity; they know they can sell all their day seats and they don't even have to cover the staffing cost - though most Box Offices do of course open at 10 am for normal counter sales.

Does TodayTix have access to photos?
To counter these arguments which are very valid - although I never day-seated myself (didn't really know such a thing existed until I joined the old board) - I think it is good to be able to open up the draw to a much broader range of people who live (and probably work) too far away to be able to dayseat unless they give up a massive chunk of their weekend for Saturday tickets.

As I don't live in London, having access to dayseats through TodayTix is great. Never won the lottery either (only entered a few times). And it's not all they do anyway - they have an allocation of full price and discounted seats, just like any other agency. I tend to use them in preference to lastminute (who have a similar selection) as you know the seat when booking with todaytix.

Maybe I'm just incredibly lucky but I've won Dreamgirls lottery twice through todaytix and also won for Kinky and No Mans Land. I always do the additional entries via fb/twitter

But those people living too far away to dayseat.. Will they be able to reach the theatre in a short notice? Last time I tried lottery for Lazarus it took ridiculous amount of time for them to send back the results. I recieved "better luck next time" almost at 1 p.m. which was 2 hours before the show. Bit annoying since I was planning another show in case I didn't win (I managed to get there eventually thogh). I dayseated too many times to count and ALWAYS got a seat - you just need to ask around and be sure you beat the queue beore it gets too long. And yes, you meet wonderful people there, share your previous theatre experiences and all. And for what it's worth in case you're not getting a ticket you know it at 10 am and can arrange another show on the day (so your precious time is not really lost).

I personally like TodayTix as they have great offers - much better than any other agency and I wouldn't be able to see some WE shows at ridiculous prices if not for this app. Day seat lttery is the only thing that seems wrong.. maybe it wouldn't seem so wrong if I ever won at least once If it was me to decide I'd offer an advance lottery (similar to Friday40 sales for HP tickets) which gives you a chance to change plans accordingly but let people queue on the day anyway without any lotteries since it's a lovely old tradition.

I don't know about matinees but for evening shows it's normally four hours notice.

I have to say I'm not convinced that Tweeting genuinely does add another entry.
I'm also confused because I've entered the Dreamgirls lottery probably 10+ times but only a couple actually show up in the My Orders section. Any ideas why?
Interesting note - if you enter the Kinky Boots lottery and don't win, they nearly always offer you very good seats for £28 which is a good bargain if you know you definitely want to see the show that night.

Not just Kinky Boots. They have offered cut price tickets to unsuccessful lottery entrants for some Branagh season and Lazarus. Seems a good way for theatres to unload last minute unsold seats.

Sounds like a great idea to me but I've never received any such offers. I gather with Dreamgirls that it's otherwise sold out but I don't think the other productions for which I entered were and I'd certainly have been interested in a ticket deal at short notice. Would have expected a good take-up rate, too.

I can't say if the second entry for tweeting definitely gives you an extra chance but I have won for Kinky Boots Matinee. I hate that you have to confirm within a certain window as I was at London Dungeon and luckily saw the notification as I was leaving (no signal inside even if you were allowed phones without getting your head chopped off). I know some people might make other plans while waiting but I wish there was a way to pre-approve the payment if you're sure.

Great idea, fiyero, to pre-approve payment if you're sure (why not suggest it to Todaytix - worth a credit on your account even if they say no?) and yes, sondheimhats, they do seem to tell you quite early if you've won but say winners might receive shorter notice, so d'James, maybe they have a list of runners-up, which is why you might hear quite late if you were a reserve rather than an outright winner?

So, obviously I'm speculating here, but what I gather is that they select a large number of losers first, then start narrowIng the list down somehow. I think they select some backup winners, like a wait list. Sometimes I've gotten my "Better luck next time" 2 hours to curtain - in those cases I assume I was on the backup list, but nobody forfeited their ticket. One time they actually called me to offer a forfeited lotto ticket AFTER they'd already sent me a rejection. Not so sure what happened there.

When I was in London in December me and some friends did the lottery every day. There were several occasions where I got my notification exactly one hour later than my friends. I always suspected I got into the "next round" but lost in the end. I did post to twitter and it was the best thing to do as two guys saw my tweet and offered me their lottery tickets to Lazarus as they had other plans. So I ended up in the front row despite losing the lottery! One time all of us got the 25£ lottery loser offer for Lazarus and even though all 3 of us clicked on it immediately only one got through to actually buy a ticket. Me and a friend got an "offer not available" message right away.
