So I did a quick search and couldn't find any previous threads on this. I've been really late to the party and just discovered this gem last week and cought up on the first season.
And what a gem it is, as much as I loved SMASH, this is just infinitly smarter and more heartfelt- it's so dark and relevant and quirky, and stars my new crush Rachel Bloom
Has anyone seen it? There are some gorgeous musical theatre refrences in there (the Music Man one was great), and the musical element is generally really well done for the very most of the show? I just wanna talk love about this show with people!
Looking foreard for the second season coming back from hiatus, even though it hasn't touched me as much as the first one has- it's still very charming, and this number has to be my fave from the show (this and You Stupid Bitch- which is depressingly real.)
Edit: oh and DUH it stars the dreamboat that is Santino Fontana- talk about a velvet voice. Plus a wonderful ensemble full of a lot of Broadway people.

I absolutely love this show, I binged the whole first season and I'm watching s2 as the episodes come out now. Great cast, fun story (if a bit drawn out) and some hilarious songs. I really loved this song (love Brittany Snow in S2 too!)...

I LOVE CRAZY EX GIRLFRIEND! I love the characters, I love how it looks at mental illness, I love how SPOT ON the musical parodies are, I love the depiction of bisexuality, I just wish it hadn't had a break for Thanksgiving and another one for Christmas.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't sob after several episodes. it's the most raw honest way I've yet to see a show portray mental illness and lonelyness.
I feel like it probably does fly over some people's heads though- because the ratings haven't been amazing this season. I've read Rachel has a 4 season plan for it- and I'm so hoping that even if CW drops someone like Netflix or even Yahoo picks it back up.
The ensemble alone- it's so diverse and interesting and unobvious and in the no one bats an eyelid kind of way. Man I'm in love with this show.

Just a quick thanks to you all for recommending this show - it hadn't appeared on my radar and so downloaded a load of episodes from Netflix to watch on a flight to LA based on just your comments... and I really love it! Uncannily we are out in Palm Springs so on Day 2 of our holiday we drove right past West Covina... agree with the comments that although it's superficially a very wacky and hyper real show, there's a lot of painful emotional stuff in there. So thanks again...

Yay Im glad you found it! Which ep did you get to?
Also on another note- I'm trying to think of all the musical refrences they've made so far
Gentelmen prefer Blonds- Diamonds are a girls best friend Les Mis- Do you hear the People Song The Music Man- ya got trouble Hamilton-rap battle cabinet Most classic R&H- dream ballet Gypsy- Rose's Turn Disney- all I Want songs Disney- all villain songs
This show is gold yo- just rewatched some of season one.

Absolutely love this show!
In terms of musical references, there's also Dream Ghosts referencing Dreamgirls (with Amber Riley!).

I love how the explicit versions Rachel puts on her channel are FILTHY (I'm So Good at Yoga as well)
The 'jewish' episode from last week was fantastic, also Italian-notreallyjewish- rabbi Patti Lupone- umm yes- more!
But even more interesting (theatre wise)- in an interview (with Idina Menzel, no less) Rachel said they pitched the show as a 4 seasons show, and already know the ending, after which she wants to take the show to stage- which should be interestingt to see how it might be pulled off- 'musically' as it is- how do you cram so much into a stage show, that's not realy structured like a musical? I'm counting on her words though- she's a smart cookie.

Has anyone watched the TV show Crazy Ex Girlfriend? It's on Netflix at the moment.
It's a show which includes origanal musical numbers and is quite quirky.
There's some good songs in it, and it's quite good escapism.

I'm so glad to see others here have found this show, I'm quite late on to it, but just love it, it's so different and clever.
I love some of the songs, my favourite is the same as you OP, the love triangles, it's so well put together, I love that even the guys are worried about her! Also the JAP battle, not to mention the brilliance that is the Sexy getting ready song.
It's a refreshing change of pace to most things you see on tv, I like the diversity of the characters, and they are all so heavily flawed at times, but the musical elements bring it back up. All except Josh, I'm not a fan, he's too 2D, which I'm guessing is deliberate on the writers part, to keep him as this ideal that will make her life so perfect, he cannot really be a real, well rounded person.
So yes, another fan here.

Delighted to see it back! I only wish it was a Netflix production so I didn't have to wait a week between episodes.

The finale got me incredibly emotional - brilliantly written and a perfect way to end. So glad that UK shows are on the cards!!

The finale was really fitting.
The live show bonus was really good, the time flew by and I was wishing it was longer. Good to hear it's coming to the UK, but imagine tickets will be pretty hard to get.

We were supposed to be getting some more info from Rachel today (I’m guessing the full announcement of dates and venues) but nothing as yet...
