This Sunday at 7/6c, Fox will be broadcasting a live production of Grease starring Julianne Hough as Sandy and Aaron Tveit as Danny. More information and the full cast can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grease:_LiveI'll be watching this live from my hotel room. Anyone else watching or interested? To be honest, that's the first of the recent musical-to-TV adaptions that interests me.

I am, or at least DVRing it. I've never been a huge fan of Grease, but I've only seen it once (a high school production), when I was about 12.

I am not at all convinced by this project. They are doing a hybrid of the film and stage scripts and then adding in new material as well just to give someone more to do because she is a 'name'
That runs the risk of upsetting those who love the movie and those who love the stage show
And 2 hours 50 (even factoring in ad breaks) feels far too long for a 2 hour show!

My biggest gripe is that Aaron Tveit, though very attractive, has now developed some charming wrinkles, and yet continues to play teenage boys. I feel second hand embarrassment for him and for the network.

Travolta wasn't without some signs of maturity...

Travolta wasn't without some signs of maturity... I think John Travolta was only about 25 when he made 'Grease'. ONJ was 30.

All the cast of Grease the film were far too old to be playing teenagers, it's not unusual for US films and dramas to have actors in their early to late 20s to play teenagers.
I wouldn't be surprised if Grease Live is successful that ITV announced they're doing their own version at Christmas.

True. Much as I love her *cough* Stockard Channing *cough* Stockard Channing was 34 at the time. The youngest actors of the cast were Dinah Madoff who played Marty was 20 and Kelly Ward who played Putzie was 21 so they were closer to the age of their characters compared to the rest of the cast

It plausibly is ITV testing the water for appetite for them to do their own Grease this December. Who knows - however I'll probably watch out of interest anyway.

It's a pity they didn't cast some age-appropriate newcomers for this and give them a chance for their big break. Surely there are enough Disney teen stars and such around?
I'll be watching anyway, since Grease is generally fun mindless entertainment and it'll help me to forget the lame Dutch tour I sat through in December.

At least Aaron Tveit can actually sing! ;-)

If you didn't see ShoutBox when we were testing it last week, it's an area on the homepage where you can chat live to other members. Perfect for a running commentary and witty repartee Anyone interested in that?

I'd be interested - I think chatting live to each other would be fun anyway (I'm too ancient to get the hang of Twitter for this kind of thing) and I could at least hang on for the first act.

Secondly, can British TV stop wanting to be American and not mimic what the American did two years before? There's also a difference here, not that I am defending the casting of 32-year old Ms. Tointon (not even knowing what she looks like). Unless I am mistaken, Maria's age is not referenced in the show/tele-play, is it? I think you'll need to do some active thinking to realize how old Maria should be (TBH..I thought of it for a minute..how old should she be? In her 20s?). Whereas anyone knows that Danny Z is probably 17 or so, and though Tveit is a stud, he ain't 17.

As I still will not be in London on the 3rd to watch this (I arrive back two days later) I'm assuming this will go to i-Player, right?

I'm watching it right now and Aaron Tveit looks so old it's almost grotesque

Julianne Hough looks just as old so it doesn't matter much as far as I can see.
Vanessa Hudgens is great (especially under the circumstances) but still super miscast as Rizzo.
Aaron Tveit is so under-stretched as Danny it's ridiculous.

I'm watching, too. Really annoyed by all the ads, and I'm neither sure if the live audience was such a good idea. Way too much screaming for my liking. That apart, I really enjoy it and find neither Julianne Hough nor Aaron Tveit too old. Actually, I quite like Julianne Hough in this after being put off by her performance in the Rock of Ages movie. Think I'll need to wait until the Bluray will be available to watch it without commercial breaks. Edit: Had some sound issues during Hopelessly devoted to you, but Julianne Hough sang it beautifully. Well done

Vanessa Hudgens has been the standout for me so far, and considering what she's going through, she is doing amazingly.

This was pretty great. Not a fan of Grease, but at least it isn't as awkward and technically flat as the NBC musicals. Thomas Kail really pulled this one off.

Looking forward to seeing this on Wednesday. It's not my favourite of musicals, but I'm interested to see how it works with a live audience, as I felt that SOM would have benefitted from one. I know these live tv musicals are an odd enterprise, but to me, a big part of theatre is the audience.

Between feedback coming through from my US friends on Twitter and Facebook, I have literally no idea if this was good or not. They all seem relatively united on it being technically impressive, but I'm pretty sure that's not the same thing at all.
