I'm starting a thread in case anyone knows about this or sees it in the nether regions..oops, outer regions...and can guide us. I remember seeing Gryff in farce a million years ago and he was v good so am assuming he will be good in this.

I remember seeing Gryff in farce a million years ago and he was v good so am assuming he will be good in this. I'll be seeing it in Bath in February with some sixth-formers so will report back. I just hope that Rhys Jones can be as nasty as the part requires in places.

He's a renowned **** so I'd not have any worries in that regard.

Any supporting cast announced yet? The Theatre Royal Bath website says 'further star casting to be announced'. Directed by Sean Foley.

I saw him in the 90's in Absolute Turkey at the Savoy, I might even try to make the trip to Bath.

I saw him in the 90's in Absolute Turkey at the Savoy, I might even try to make the trip to Bath. It does say 'Prior to West End transfer' on the website/booklet, but of course it will be half the price (or two-thirds, anyway) in Bath.

Tempted to go (more for Lee Mack than Griff Rhys Jones) but I'm not keen on booking anything seven months in advance - had a quick look at the £15 tickets and they all seemed to be restricted view. Will probably wait until closer to the time and have another look then.

Have booked to see this in Bath. Hopefully it'll brighten a gloomy February evening.

Saw this yesterday...After a slightly slow start this kicked into action and much humour after 15-20 mins. The whole cast were excellent with Gryff Rhys Jones putting in an energetc performance. Lee Mack given the floor to do what he does best throughout. Matthew Horne proving that hes not just Gavin. I think it could be trimmed a little running at just under 2 and a half hours...Enjoyed it!

After about 20 minutes I thought I was watching one of the worst productions of a classic I've seen in 30 years of theatre-going. How funny is an overweight posh girl with rotacism (or, as she would have put it, 'wotacism')? How funny a dim posh boy ludicrously overdressed (her brother) was a lisp? Later another speech impediment turns up too. Desperate stuff. And there was Lee Mack slightly naffly making references to the fact that it was (ooh!)a French play, as though some explanation needs to be given or excuse made for doing a French play in case people think there is something pretentious about doing one at all.
When Griff Rhys Jones appears (their father) things get a lot better. He is very good, though he appears to be in a much better production of the play than the lovers. There is some quite funny business with props, some good interaction with the audience, some witty updating of the translation to include references to austerity and cuts. Frosine, the marriage broker is good. On the other hand there are three pointless songs, which contribute to the absurdly long 2 hour 50 minute running time.

How are the seats at the side of the upper circle? I've sat in so-called bad seats before and they've not had that bad a view.

seats at the side of the upper circle Do you mean at the Garrick?
If so, not that bad. Only problem is if they do stuff in the front corners and edges, you will miss that. C 1 and 26 have nothing in front, so a good bet, too.
That said, I nabbed E21 in the stalls for just £25 during previews - worth a look in the stalls as the restricted view stuff is cheap.
Plus you get free underground train noise to fill in the boring bits ! ( seriously though I actually do like the Garrick )

I was on about the Garrick, thank you, that's helpful. Have tickets in the Upper Circle as a gift. First trip to that theatre, so I'm looking forward to it.

Am at Bath now in the interval. Thus is brilliant! V funny, lots of rudeness, sight gags. Katy Wix is channelling Queenie from Blackadder. Lee Mack is addlibing like theres no tomorrow. GRJ is superb. Audience having a great time😂
