A Bronx Tale: The Musical based on the play of the same name with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and co-directed by Robert de Niro and Jerry Zaks will open at Broadway's Longacre Theatre on 1st December 2016 with previews starting from 3rd November. The show had an out-of-town tryout at the Papermill Playhouse this February.
Just booked a ticket to see this show during my long weekend trip in early December. Anyone happened to see it at the Papermill Playhouse? Previews start next Thursday, so if anyone's going between then and 10th December, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I haven't seen it but I have a few demo tracks and it's typical Menken tunes, which is a good thing. I've seen a trailer, and it looked a bit unpolished to me and looked like a low grade tour type of show.
But from what I've read on another board, it didn't seem quite finished or Broadway ready. I have one more slot for a show in December as well and it was a toss between this as a matinee vs Fiddler, and Color Purple at night. I think I might go with Fiddler since this will probably still be running by May when I go back.

I can't get over that blurb. I'm not sure if I'm more amused at their (presumably inadvertant) assertion that there's a play called A Bronx Tale: The Musical, or that an Alan Menken show is being directed by Robert De Niro. I mean, I can't think of any real reason why *not*, but they're still not the most immediately obvious bedfellows.

there's a play called A Bronx Tale: The Musical That was just my bad wording, even though I think it's fairly obvious that the play's name is just "A Bronx Tale".

Oh, I thought you'd copy-pasted it from somewhere. No worries, I understood, I'm just one of those awkward people that likes to look out for the laughs.

or that an Alan Menken show is being directed by Robert De Niro Not any more uncommon than Alan Menken writing the title song for Rocky V ("Measure of a Man"), I'd say.

Like I said, absolutely no reason why it would be odd, it would just never have occurred to *me* to put 'em together.

A decent solid 3 star show. Very reminiscent of Jersey Boys with a score that veers a wee too close to Little Shop of Horrors at times. Seemed like the whole audience was from the Bronx (it was the first Saturday night performance). One which women will be able to drag their husbands to see without too much complaining. Great performance from the 9 year old playing "C" who gets the biggest reaction of the night for his solo. I've mentioned our other 3 shows (Bubble Boy, Sweet Charity & Falsettos) on Phantom's New York diary thread.

I've seen last Saturday's Matinee and while this show isn't "One of the Great Ones" (if you've seen the show, you'll know what I mean), I really enjoyed seeing it. From he five shows I saw during this long weekend trip to New York, this was the one I enjoyed most.
Jersey Boys meets West Side Story is a good description of this show, the opening scene could have been directly taken from Jersey Boys.
Admittedly, when it comes to Alan Menken, I'm slightly biased, but I loved the score and some of the songs are still stuck in my head (especially I Like It, In a World Like This). Can't wait for them to release a cast recording.
As they are also offering general rush tickets, I'll be queuing up for one when I'm back in New York at the end of January.

Seen it again yesterday Evening and enjoyed the show even more an last time. Can't wait for the cast recording to be released. Several songs are still stuck in my head.
I queued up for Rush tickets and was the first in line at 7.30am. 18 people were in the queue when they opened at 10am. I got AA101 in the Orchestra, front row and a great view.
Also, Chazz Palminteri himself was in attendance.

This one certainly slipped under my radar previously but it was very enjoyable. I thought the music was good and overall very well staged. The audience around me were loving it, word of mouth must be strong for it to have had such a healthy run so far.
