Saw this on Broadway last week and loved it just as much as I did when first watching it at the Old Vic. Andy Karl still steals the show. And I much prefered the Broadway Rita to the London one I have to say.

Loved the Facebook Live Q&A he did, especially when he got into the in's and out's of the hidden 'secrets' of the score, I was gasping in total admiration for Tim Minchin at some of the stuff I'd never realised/heard whilst listening, especially the really subtle links between songs and themes. There's also this cool podcast about how he wrote 'Stuck' amongst talk about GhD/theatre/stuff- podbay.fm/show/1203393721/e/1496635200?autostart=1God I just LOVE this show. As over the moon I was for the recognition it received at the Olivier Awards this year, I've no expectations for it to be rewarded as much at the Tony's over the rather bland (in comparison in my opinion!) Dear Evan Hansen and Come From Away. Not listened to Great Comet, though I do have it downloaded. It also seems pretty technically special. Maybe Andy Karl could clinch Best Actor - but it's a long shot. Surely no chance for them to win Best Musical, but one can only hope!

I finally got round to listening to this & found it very interesting so thanks for the link. I must say that it's interesting to hear Playing Nancy sung by a man!

This is also fabulously geeky - goes into a lot of detail and talks about the rhyming thing!

Should they set the musical in a recycling centre?

Found a little bit of geek wealth online. Heres a video of the Groundhog Day stage revolve system being tested in the factory. Cool to see the innards working.

Nice video remark, great find!
Seeing the revolve like that, would it be possible for it to tour? I know revolves have toured before in the past, but I don't think I can imagine the show without it - as they discovered on the first preview!

That video is great. How did you find it? I'm not sure if they could tour with the turntable. It seems to malfunction quite a lot so dissembling and reassembling it on a weekly or monthly basis might be problematic. But I hope they will bring it to London if a transfer happens. I can't really imagine the show without it either. It was pretty awesome for the tilt-a-whirl alone.

I found it by accident when I happened across the video of the same company testing the Helicopter for Miss Saigon's London Revival (see: theatreboard.co.uk/thread/56/saigon-prince-edward-uk-tour?page=42&scrollTo=129828)This video is actually the revolve for the London production but I imagine once the schematics were drawn up and tested the same thing was made over in the US. Looking at it, I'd guess it is tour-able. Alot of productions are touring their own stage with automation, lighting built in etc. and this looks not much more complex than some of the stuff touring now so its doable.

Oh so they did have the revolve in London already? I always thought they made it for the Broadway production. Thought I read that somewhere but must have imagined it then. Ooops... ^^ The cast did perform at Bryant Park today. And judging from their Instagram account, they also did "If I had my time again". Edit: Yep, they just uploaded that too.

Ooops... ^^ Yep, By all accounts the Broadway production has been staged almost exactly as it was in London, with a few little changes. I would imagine that the revolve was re-constructed over in the US rather than dismantled, transported and rebuilt. Potentially by a different company, which could explain why the US revolve seems to breakdown alot more than the UK revolve seemed to.

Hopefully the publicity gives ticket sales a bump! Predictably GhD's Grosses were up by 8.8% this week, from $607k to $704k.

Damnit! Gutted it didn't make it on Broadway. This show deserved more than it got.
That siad, thank god it is going to come back home, makes me alot less sad about it. Id go bakc in a heartbeat, it was one of the best musicals last year by far!

Will hopefully get tickets for this on Broadway next week. I was hoping the producers were going to hang on and see if the Bill Murray bump would grow. Oh well, at least we'll get it back in London.

Of course I can't be too surprised that this has happened, but dammit! After the Bill Murray hype last week as well!
This show - my new favourite musical - doesn't deserve to flop. And it really did deserve some Tony's! But Broadway's loss is London's gain I guess, and I'm glad to hear that it is tourable. I'm kind of hoping they do a Shrek and attempt to recoup by releasing the EPK footage of Andy's performance on DVD.
Well... As Phil sings to Punxsutawney, I guess this show is now singing to Broadway; "Ba-da-ba-ba-ba suck my balls, I'm out!"

Shame but why didn't this work? Great Reviews? But Lack of Tonys? But I think the Broadway economics don't work and there are too many hangers on taking little slices of the pie.

Awww man, that is so sad. They deserved a much longer run than this. I was hoping that they would hang on a little longer after Bill Murrays visit... Such a shame...
Well, is there a (very, very tiny) chance of Andy reprising the role in London if it comes back? He won the Olivier after all. So it would be a good promotion to start a long run of the show. If that happens I might have to move to London... ^^'
