The ES are shameless in sucking up to famous people. If you have a fringe play on at the White Bear or something just cast the child of a celebrity, the ES will give you half of page 4.

Just read thru the awards. I confess I haven't seen much of the nominated but sad to see Helen McCrory passed over again.

These awards used to be almost on a par with the Oliviers but have been a joke for sometime. Plus David Attenborough is obvs brilliant and a national treasure but what the f*ckvhas he got to do with theatre!! Was it just an excuse to get William there and get media exposure. Think its days are numbered😕

Think its days are numbered😕 Not really - as long as it continues to be a good PR exercise for the Evening Standard. That is what the show's about - it gets them national press and radio coverage, a bit on the evening news, and even occasionally a little bit of international coverage, if the person being awarded is famous enough. That is why the awards go to the most famous people who will turn up to the ceremony.

Glenn Close, Billie Piper, dear Kenny B, Ralph Fiennes and Harry Potter? Well, find me a hooker and some cocaine and call me Frank Bough. What a bunch of shocker wins!

If I were Simon Stephens or similar I'd be busily stealing that line and squirrelling it away for future use.

The award that Attenborough won is just a joke. Beyond theatre?
Why have a theatre awards and then give an award that isn't related at all.
Next years award will probably go to Mary Berry for services to baking.
Glenn C will win the Olivier. There was an actress playing a role as well as it will ever be played. I could never relax watching Sheridan because I was dreading the next number starting and her murdering it.
