It certainly was more for McArdle within Chekhov season if you combine his performances in Platonov (22) & Ivanov (17).

they should be re-named The Starfuc*er Awards.
Still not over Nicole Kidman beating Denise Gough last year- an outrage.

Branagh has won for the Branagh Theatre season at the Garrick. Bit of an odd speech. He said he never wants to set foot in another theatre again and started smashing up the stage. Room very quiet.

And to top it all off- Kenneth Branagh winning for his remarkable achievement in staging pedestrian and dull productions consecutively at the Garrick.
These Awards are an absolute joke. They are just given to friends of Lebedev!!
Next years Best Actess- Joan Collins for Jackie and I at the Leicester Square theatre

Thought Billie Piper winning for Verma was fair enough, can't think of another female performance that deserved to win rather than her, although I wasn't that impressed by the actual play - but Ralph Fiennes winning for The Master Builder is a joke, I thought the whole thing was dreadful,he was far more deserving to win for Man and Superman although I guess The Old Vic hosting the awards and putting on TMB as well decided that one.

Think people are getting mixed up with the What's On Stage award for awarding the most famous people surely.
Glenn Close and Jesus Christ Superstar both won the award on merit, this is more of an award for ENO and Regent"s Park Open Air if anything.

Nope, the Evening Standard awards definitely also award the more famous nominees. Just because the winners also happen to be good doesn't mean it's not all about who they can print pictures of in... well, the Evening Standard. No one is getting mixed up here.

Glenn winning this award does make me wonder if now it will be her or Sheridan taking the Olivier come Spring. Sheridan is an award favorite at the Oliviers but Glenn Close is Glenn Close. The great thing though is that both were amazing so it wouldn't be a shame if either of them won. Some could argue Amber Riley but if she were to win, it will be purely the performance. She is well known in the UK, sure, but not nearly enough as Glenn Close or, in the UK, as Sheridan Smith.
