Not sure how many Corrie fans we have in our community, but if you are- like me- then you'll be mourning the passing of the hugely entertaining Jean Alexander AKA Hilda Ogden...
I used to love Hilda. She always lit up the screen. And how this incredibly talented actress managed to squeak in a voice that was so unlike her own for so many years I'll never understand!
We're wishing you luck as we wave you goodbye, Jean...

Very sad. She was one of the iconic Corrie women.

Hadn't heard till just logged on here. She was a Corrie icon and loved her as Auntie Wainright in "Last of the Summer Wine".

A fabulous actress who created one of the most iconic characters in a soap. She was so unlike her screen character ( she had a much deeper, posher voice in real life ). Most soap stars today just play versions of themselves and are exactly the same off screen as on!

Sad to hear - back in the days when Corrie was worth a look she was one of the actresses who gave depth to her character.

Jean Alexander created one of the most iconic TV characters of all time. She hasn't been in Coronation Street for over 25 years and still feels like the beating heart of it all. I'm so pleased that she resisted the temptation to return and kept Hilda's last episode as the perfect goodbye it was.

I agree with all the tributes to the exceptionally talented Jean Alexander.
She was once in the 1980s in a Birmingham shopping centre signing photos for charity. It was the best £5 I ever spent - a signed photo of Jean as Hilda Ogden. Priceless!

Thought we might get a special programme honouring Jean Alexander in her two most famous roles. Doesn't look like one's been scheduled for next week, but perhaps the TV mags had already been sent off to the printers when her death was announced. Hoping we might get something- it would be great to see Hilda's best bits all over again...
