Anyone watching this? I'm really enjoying it.
I love the opening credits music. It's a beautiful piece of music.

Yes, really enjoying it. Looks great, and should look even better now Tom Hughes has arrived...! Two slightly disconcerting features are the faces of Rufus Sewell and Paul Rhys which look as if they have had so much work done on them that they can't move a muscle. Still dishy though! The below stairs scenes are rather weak. But it does have a certain something which doesn't automatically say "ITV". Love the theme tune too. Didn't realize she developed so many male favourites- first Lord Melbourne, later John Brown and then she was mad about Disraeli apparently. (Went to Hughenden Manor, his place in High Wycombe, at the weekend, and there in the church is the only memorial stone erected by a monarch for one of their subjects.)

Agree of the opening credits music! Sets the mood for the series perfectly. Enjoying in enormously (glad to hear I'm not the only one) - might lack the all-absorbing atmosphere of Wolf Hall, but still very engaging and beautifully shot. And oh my isn't Rufus Sewell just gorgeous as Lord M? Fantastic acting and too handsome for word in these outfits! Took some time to get used to Jenna with blue eye lenses - totally different look.

I do like that theme tune. However, I'm just not really a fan of period dramas so have no desire to watch it.

I've seen the first two and really enjoyed it. I also enjoy Rufus Sewell's face (which hasn't changed in about 20 years).

Big royalist and love history so thanks.

Big royalist and love history so thanks. Loved the way we have been looking at the portrait of young Elizabeth in the background for two episodes, only to see it given much greater importance in episode three. Of course Victoria would come as Elizabeth to the ball, with Melbourne as Leicester...

Also really enjoying this. A great Sunday night period drama and a subject I knew very little about. It's like watching BBC with adverts.

It's great to discover more about a period of history I know very little about, but if I'm being brutally honest, I'm mainly watching it for Lord M. It's quite amusing that Eve Myles supposedly singed her hand on a gas lamp, yet somehow Jenna Coleman hasn't succumbed to third degree burns due to her proximity to smouldering Rufus Sewell...

Also watching and hugely enjoying it, and I really didn't think it would be for me, so very happy that I love it so much. Keeping looking up timelines just for a bit of clarity as they are taking a bit of artistic licence with them, i.e Victoria was 18 in 1837/38 yet they still talk about her being 18 as Robert Peel prepares to become Prime Minister, which was in 1841. Not a gripe, just for my own head and fascination - and to learn more! A gripe would be the awful CGI used in large location shots. But Jenna Coleman is just brilliant - as are they all, really.

I know what you mean about the CGI but it adds something to the overall feel to the piece, I think. Makes it all a bit fairy tale, with the Union Jacks always flying perfectly! And I had to look up what that arch was in front of Buckingham Palace: Marble Arch was there apparently until it was moved to its present position. I also love the locations they have found -interiors and exteriors- which were mostly in the north, according to articles I've read. The Westminster Abbey scenes were filmed at Beverley Minster. I had to Google it. Looks a beautiful place...

It's such a good drama, I don't usually watch Period Dramas but this is really amazing and very interesting. Love Jenna Coleman as Victoria

Congratulations, george, on becoming a Senior Member of the Board! You must be the only person to have been conferred this honour twice!

Really enjoying this and am learning things about Victoria that I didn't know before. I just thought she wasn't amused but obviously she was in ways I didn't even imagine. Something to look forward to along with Cold Feet which has resurfaced after 13 years.

More things we learned from tonight's episode: Victoria started to fall for Albert just after the Gay Gordons, it was highly unusual to go to Windsor on a Wednesday, and Albert came over with plenty of spare shirts judging by the number he cut up with his penknife...
The whole thing is sumptuous, but it felt a bit slow tonight. I thought the last scene was just beautiful though...

Have had the laziest day and watched all 4. Gorgeous stuff. Proper phwoor moment when Albert turned up, the whole ripping shirt for her flower biz (not a euphemism). Yummy.

As a German I immensely enjoyed the last episode, they couldn't have made Albert more stiff-uptight-typically German if they tried!
Amused by the English actors' German. Lovely stuff overall, makes me consider pootling off to Coburg to take a look at the place.

First I should say I avidly watched every episode of Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge (the best episode was the one where he wasn't in it so we were spared his two expressions: happy and puzzled) so I have no problem per se with middle-brow middle-class TV pap, but I can't see the point of this one - it's Queen Victoria, WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, thus one of the prime motive forces of "drama" has been removed. Should sell well in Germany though, they seem bizarrely fixated on our royal family.

Having been I can honestly say that Schloss Rosenau where Albert was brought up is beautiful and well worth a visit!

Plus it's in the best German state: Franconia (admittedly, I'm slightly biased)

Amusingly I've been looking into Coburg travelling and realize that a "Albert and Victoria" musical is just about to open in Schloss Ehrenburg on Friday 16th September. Only eight performances in total and virtually ZERO publicity beyond Coburg city limits. Too late now to do something at short notice but if it's not too terrible, they may bring it back next year and I may consider going.

HG, if you are immune to the combined charms of Jenna Coleman and Rufus Sewell, there is truly no hope for you. ;-)
And on that subject, having just caught up with episode 4: poor Lord M. I'll have your gardenias any day, Rufus, love.
