Hi all...... I heard through a friend that rumour has it Tom Hiddleston is returning to the West end for something? I assume a play, but I would love to see him as one of the princes from Into the Woods! But I have seen no proof of such a thing occurring....... My friend says it would be after he finishes filming Thor Ragnarok! Does any one have any facts or even speculations or hopes....please tell me! Thanks a billion . Sam.........

My immediate thought on the Hedwig thread was that I would love to see Tom Hiddleston in the role and he would work well in it. Not sure if he can even remotely hold a tune though...

He did alright in the Hank Williams biopic. I seem to recall there was singing in Cymbeline too?

Yes he can sing, and also play . Word is though that he's going straight from Thor Ragnarock onto Avengers Infinity, which has already started pre-production. Of course Loki's part may not be huge so no telling how long that will take.

I guess he needs something to restore him some credibility after the whole Taylor Swift debacle. All that effort with his previous work and especially 'The Night Manager' recently and then he turns himself into a bit of a joke with the Hiddleswift stuff . . .

I'm not up to date with tabloid gossip, but was the Hiddleswift nonsense finally exposed as the media stunt it probably was?
If not, could Miss Swift play Itzhak to Hiddle's Hedwig?

I'm still fascinated by Hiddleswift (which is ongoing but much more on the down low). When you bear in mind how private he usually is, and how burnt by the media she's been, it seems extremely odd for them to go so public so soon after her previous relationship ended. I'm sure it is possible to fall head over heels that quickly, but the public nature of it all just rings extremely false for me. I just can't buy that it's an authentic relationship.

Given the nature of these things, I would have thought it highly unlikely you'll get to see him on stage in anything before late 2017, or even 2018 - it'll be like the Cumberbatch Hamlet and be one of those shows that tickets go on sale at least a year in advance.

The princes' roles aren't big enough for him. But it's been a long time since a major revival of Company... He would also be ideal for the lead in Merrily but that has been done too well too recently.

I bet his Hamlet happens. It's a terribly unimaginative role to want to play, but I'm sure he's said he wants to play it, and I'm sure there'll be directors and theatres lining up to facilitate it when the time comes.

This is where the things go terribly wrong.. when the acclaimed star of an actor utters a WISH to play big part like Hamlet and directors/producers start fighting about getting him on board of their ship. Or worse - when he chooses one himself and the rest is just built around this "wish". asn't it the case with Benedict's Hamlet? And we ended up with a disaster.
What heppened to the good old times when director together with casting director or whatever decided on the best actor to fulfill the part?

Not exactly the case with Cumberbatch, that was a situation where an actor and director who were old friends came to a mutual decision to do a production. I don't think he had any involvement in the rest of casting.
A better example would be the Tennant and Tate Much Ado, where (because of their financial interest) they picked the director without prior relationship and were involved in the rest of the casting. Though that production was great and gave then-drama student Tom Bateman his first acting role.

If they weren't already my absolute favourite Doctor/Companion duo, then that would have clinched it. *swoon*

I'm not up to date with tabloid gossip, but was the Hiddleswift nonsense finally exposed as the media stunt it probably was? It's not a PR stunt. That theory was cooked-up by some overwrought fangirls who are in denial that their internet boyfriend is going out with someone other than them. Hiddleston's not been as private in the past as people seem to think - Taylor Swift is by far his most high-profile girlfriend, but this is certainly not the first time he has been seen out and about with one, and this is not the first girlfriend that over-invested fans have had a meltdown over. They managed to bully one girlfriend off Twitter. It's just the press were not interested when the woman in question was not famous and he was not being touted as the next Bond. The gossip rags must have got bored of publishing pictures of him running on the beach or walking though airports in the same outfit - the paps have stopped following him everywhere. Possibly they're all off hoping to catch Orlando Bloom naked again. The various fan Tumblrs are still tracking them, though. They're still together. He flew from LA to Rhode Island on her private jet to see her last saturday, and back again to LA tuesday evening before heading on to Australia for Thor III filming. They've been spotted out and about together even when papparazzi were not around. As for stage work, my bet is that it'll be in New York rather than the West End. He's been spotted going to several meetings in New York clutching what looked suspiciously like a script-sized envelope - it could be a for a film, of course, but film meetings tend to be in LA rather than NYC. He's expressed a desire to work on Broadway, as he has never done it - he's only ever worked at BAM. Naturally he wants to do Hamlet - they all want to! - and the next few years are prime for that, but he's also been mentioning Othello a lot recently, and Branagh says they've had conversations about Much Ado. I wouldn't rule out him doing something contemporary, though - in Night Manager interviews he's been talking about wanting to do more stuff that has topical or contemporary resonance. It'll all depend on Avengers scheduling, though - he said recently he doesn't officially know what he is doing next, which suggests he has stuff lined up he can't announce yet.

Anyway, thanks, I stand corrected Not that I care much. It was nice to see him as Coriolanus and I generally like him, but there are others I'd be more excited about seeing on stage in London. I'd gladly swap him for Josh Groban for example.

Thanks Kathryn. All that Tom Hiddleston news AND Tom's interweb stalker revealed in the same post. Result!

Yes, I know that made me sound like a stalker, but I promise I'm not! I've just been around in the 'fandom' long enough to know who the stalkers are, so I can read their tumblrs without having to do the leg-work myself. There are some really obsessive types out there - and some are as delusional as the Cumberbatch crazies. Hiddleston fans have nothing on Swift fans, by the way - they literally track her private jet, and the social media accounts of all her known friends and family members. They get really anxious if they can't find out where she is for a few days. It's actually kind of worrying.

I think he can as he sang his own songs for I saw the Light, and I've heard him singing....he's fab!

I don't know about Hamlet but I adored his portrayal as Henry V in the BBC adaptation in the Hollow Crown, would LOVE to see him try another tackling history character, like Richard II!

He's been linked to a film version of Richard II directed by James Ivory for ages. It might even be the Shakespeare project he hinted would be announced soon back in May. I suspect they might be having trouble getting the finance together, though.
