They are good friends still. Even better Fielding put a photo on her twitter later that night of them meeting up for dinner with Peter Davison. This warms my heart. They were my first Doctor Who team/crew

I have now seen Lorraine Ashborne twice at the theatre in London! That is all. (Once at ‘Hamilton’, can’t remember the other).

Stephen Mangan at last night’s Plaza Suite. He didn't awkwardly stand up in the middle of it and say "SJP, you're AMAZING" did he?

Benedict Cumberbatch at the final performance of Ulster American tonight. Chuckling away. We had a chat with the playwright afterwards, David Ireland, who is a top chap!

I'm fairly sure I saw Judge Rinder tonight at 'The Hills of California'. Well, I saw him moving through the crowd outside as the show let out, so I couldn't swear he was in attendance versus just walking past.

I saw Andy Serkis in the foyer of Ulster American, in the queue to buy some sweets.

Janet Street Porter was in the audience of Rehab at Neon tonight.
She looked like she was cringing through most of the first act and left during the interval.
(The audience is in the round and she just happened to be sitting directly across from me, I wasn’t being weird!)

It's not the Stage Managers job, or Stage Hands job! Do you think backstage staff are there at the beck and call of the "Star"?

Everyone is responsible for the show being a success and job title shouldn’t matter. It’s not like Serkis is asking for a basket of puppies to play with, or being an entitled Pr**k. I would assume that 20 minutes before a show he’s got a bunch of stuff to do and that the show is somewhat predicated on him being ready to give his best performance. Wouldn’t anyone just muck in to make that happen?

I think we're being a bit precious if we believe that every actor has to gather themselves in a ritualistic pre-show routine to get into character. He's just got to get on the stage and start talking. Like he would on a film or TV set.

Everyone has their own jobs to do, there's usually a bit of downtime before the show, but you don't go wandering around the building to help the Star, just for the hell of it. If anyone is there to assist the Star then it's the Company Manager, who would talk to FoH to get something they wanted, it goes through channels. If the Company Manager found out he was FoH during the incoming he'd be for a talking to!

It's bad form for anyone to be anywhere other than backstage during the half. As crew/Stage management we'd be hauled over the coals for being FoH.

I wasn’t assuming he had a luvvie process to get into character, but he would need hair and make up, maybe that’s done long before. I’m more thinking that in my work (for start-ups in tech), if I have an important presentation or meeting, I take a bit of space before it to get into the right mindset. Having never been a professional actor, I’d assumed that performance to an actor is the same as a big meeting to an exec. Consider me educated! I might start a thread about ‘misconceptions people who don’t work in theatre have about shows.’

Just to test the theory.
