E4 'Stage School' reality TV show

This is absolutely laughable, but what worries me most is the reputation the industry will gain as a result of this. I think we can expect to see (as has already begun!) lots of actor and industry types imploring people to spread the word that this is NOT what drama school is about. That this is NOT a "prestigious" drama school as their press material seems to claim. I wonder whether it is even accredited. Hopefully not enough people will see it to make a difference, but all it takes is people to see one episode and decide that this is the theatre industry. And what lasting damage will it do to aspiring actors who are considering training at drama school, only to think that this monstrosity of a series is a true representation of drama school.

Really rather wish this had never been made.

I've seen several West End performers voicing their disapproval of this on Facebook and I totally agree with them. Just the thought someone might end up believing this is what stage school is like is horrendous.

I should think that anyone whose opinion matters will be well aware that reality TV is anything but reality. At least Big Brother never made any pretence of the fact that the production team were pulling the strings every step of the way, and that was positively unscripted compared with some reality shows.

I've heard of that school, vaguely. I can't remember exactly why but I definitely remember it not being good.

I think the responsibility D and B have to their students is totally destroyed by showcasing them in this manner. I can't ever imagine suggesting to my students that this would be a positive move for the industry or their career, unless you are looking for a quick route into the, far too many already, scripted reality rubbish that is all over the TV.

Any hopes of accreditation (or renewal) will now be severely damaged by promoting an entirely fictitious performers experience during training.

If there is a petition to ban it I would sign it.

Marjorie! I'd forgotten Marjorie! but yes, you're right it was designed as a real social experiment and the reactions/personalities that came out reflected that in a really interesting way...alas it was all downhill from there.

I started watching Big Brother by accident half way through season three, and what drew me in was the way the show let the entertainment develop by allowing the housemates to interact naturally. The final week with the final four was particularly enjoyable. I went off it after season seven, in which the production team seemed to think it would be funny to see how often they could drive Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace to the edge of a breakdown. I recognise the names from season eight but I really don't remember it, and I must have stopped watching after that because season nine means nothing to me.

Did anyone watch the show ' school for Stars' on CBBC ? Because it looks likes cross between that and towie

I'm willing to bet money that the series itself is as heavily edited for dramatic effect as the trailer is. Even watching the whole thing, we're unlikely to get a realistic idea of how events actually went down. After all, if an undramatic show like Bake Off isn't free from editors cutting and pasting for most exciting effect, then I'd be incredibly surprised if a show about a stage school broke the reality show mould and went for sober realism instead.

The mic amplified whispers of "I'm better than her", "I am too", at the end of the trailer get me every time. By scripted I of course mean guided by the production team etc. 'go here, do this, bitch about that'. I really hope it is, because if those boys and girls think moaning about their peers and treating each other with so little respect is going to get them anything other than a bad reputation then they've got another thing coming, as we've already said.

I can't stand Towie, or Made in Chelsea, or any of the other 'reality' TV shows, so I doubt this is going to be of interest to me personally, but I'll probably catch the first episode, just to see if it's any better than it's been made out to be.

Love the fact that they've added a couple of 'celebrities' to the cast (ex boy and girl band members from off of X Factor- or so a friend reliably informed me. I'd never heard of either of them), and then try and claim it's reality TV.

I have studied at two London stage schools and they are actually like this. It is really sad, but that's how it is nowadays.
