Been meaning to start this thread for some time now, thought I'd finally do it. Saw this show in NY back in May and loved it so much. Was in NY again this week (just got back today) and was even tempted to see it again. I saw Adam Grupper, Danny Burstein's understudy, in the role of Tevye and was originally a little disappointed I wouldn't see Danny in his award winning role, but that disappointment soon went away. Adam was AMAZING! He put so much emotion into the role, I was completely blown away. Anyone who gets to see Adam in the role is very lucky. Sadly the show announced the other week that it will be closing it's door December 31st this year. There hasn't been a West End transfer in 9 years, time for another one? Would love if this production transferred, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence that it will. I really think this production would do well in London.

Highly doubt it will transfer merely due to the fact that there is loads of transfers rumoured and coming next year and shortage of theatres especially to fit a show of this size. Miss Saigon is replacing it on Broadway and that set is huge

Miss Saigon is replacing it on Broadway and that set is huge From what I remember, the set wasn't too big, I'm sure it could be downscaled. I seem to remember there being quite a few set changes, which could be an issue. Nevertheless, I hope there will be a production in the West End of some sorts in upcoming years, it's such a great show. Just bought the movie, can't wait to watch it!

I've seen this production twice and will go one more time next month. I just love it. The choreography is wonderful. Sadly both times I went (once in November, once in June) it wasn't very busy. But then it is a big theatre so hard to sell out. I did get a look backstage and they would definitely need to downscale the set a lot unless they went into one of the big West End houses (and as much as I like this production I can't see Fiddler being popular enough to fill a big theatre in the West End).
But from what I've been told by a friend in the cast there are no plans for a transfer at this point.

Sorry but disappointed by this new take on Fiddler. Love the show and have to admit it is also a fine film. It just looked cheap to me ,at high Broadway prices.

Never saw it when I was in New York but the cast album is one of my favourites to have been released this year. I saw the show in Vienna a few months ago and bought this in lieu of a German cast album. Love Adam Kantor and Alexandra Silber, as well as Danny Burstein of course.

Rather than muddy the MCF thread, I thought I’d revive this one to ask if anyone saw this on Broadway? I have space in my schedule next April to catch this on tour in LA. Like others I love the cast recording, but have never seen a production so am keen to see if this version is worth the cash, or just go closer to home over Christmas.

This was the first Broadway show I ever saw 2 years ago as a sunday show. I managed to pick up a last minute "cheap" ticket at the box office having only just arrived in NY a few hours earlier, it was certainly an enjoyable watch and I got alot out of it having only seen a touring production in the UK 10+ years ago. Its definitely worth a punt if you can get a reasonably priced ticket.

It closed quite a while ago. There will be a tour soon, but I believe it's non-equity.

It's more or less a technical difference. Basically these are union performers, union workers that have to adhere to certain standard with pay/compensation, health insurance, number of hours. This trickles down to the sets, orchestra and really all elements of the production, company and its management that we see and what we don't see. Union tours tend to also be on par with Broadway quality and staging. Whatever enhancements are still Broadway-approved, if you will. Non-union tours aren't protected by the union standards. From an audience perspective, you will see a product that has probably been sold off to a producer/team that can scale it down or make changes (normally financially motivated) that would have an impact on the overall quality. In crude terms, it's normally not as good, less professional and more of a knock off of the original. I'm sure someone else can explain it more technically and do a better job
