Baz is great but he seems to be going through a quiet phase of West End announcements recently. He didn't break the Venus in Fur news yesterday for example. Most announcements this year have appeared elsewhere apart maybe from Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Lady Day.

I'm still amazed that the Daily Fail employ a black person

I wonder if the man is doing his regular matinee late tomorrow. IIRC, Baz replied to someone on twitter a few weeks ago that he'd be "back" on August 31st, so yes!

He's been in NYC by the looks of it and is attending the Telluride Film Festival but I hope he has some good UK theatre news!

alluding, even. In fact, just stating! Can't see anything. They aren't still moaning about removal of their plus ones are they?

Maybe the National have actually made the stand that the rest of us know in an ideal world we should, and they refuse to give Baz exclusives while he works for one of the vilest rags around. Either that or they did have a massive barney over the +1s thing...

It's been slim pickings for poor old Baz of a Thursday night recently.

This Thursday night has, but you have had Chess, Little Shop of Horrors, Strictly Ballroom, The King and I, Girl From The North Country (transfer), Tina Turner (sic), Frozen (rumour) and rounded off with Company, think you've been a bit spoilt lately and this week has been an anti-climax. Hopefully there would be news soon of Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen, Come From Away and Bat Out of Hell soon.

Fair enough. I'm more interested in plays though and new drama announcements seem to have been scarce recently. Baz can only report what's ready to be announced.

I hope Baz is not just going to be posting food photos tonight.
We tune in for theatre gossip.
Also - can we start a campaign for him to unpin the Crown casting tweet - it has been there since October. I think we've all got the message now....

By the lack of non food tweets so far tonight, I take it there are no theatre announcements . On another note, the food does look nice though!

I know this is a bit over the top to say, but I wish he would just ping a tweet early doors on those Thursday evenings when there is no theatre stuff to say that there will be no theatre stuff. He knows by now that a sizeable audience stays up late and tunes into him for exactly that reason. I frankly couldn't give a fiddlers about what dessert Nicole Kidman or whomever had at Cannes or at an Oscars party (but I appreciate there are those who do!).

In fairness, he always gets a bit useless for theatre news when there's a film fest on, and it's not like Cannes is a secret.

He will probably be away the next few weeks. Must be due a Holiday after all that terribly tasking work at Cannes and awards season!!

Interesting and uncannily when Baz is off there are never any big press releases comes out on the Friday. I was hoping to read something for a couple of musicals for the Autumn, thinking Waitress, Dear Evan Hansen, Anastasia and Come From Away or maybe Romantic Anonymous or Groundhog Day.

Even if any of those come over surely it will be next year earliest now?

While it’s frustrating having no announcements , on a personal level it gives my credt card a bit of a rest after a few months of ticket purchases.

Is Baz not reporting tonight? Or is he sulking?

Is Baz not reporting tonight? Or is he sulking? No he usually has a long break in August. I imagine he will be back next week. Though tbh his last few columns were so dull he may as well have been off!
