So the Mother and I are off to NY in November, and I haven't been paying attention to openings and closings...hit me with some recomendations! We are seeing Falsettos and The Great Comet of 1812. My usual rule is 'see what you haven't seen at home/isn't likely to transfer' And we've seen both Hamilton and The Color Purple as well (although they both violate the above rule anyway)
And yes please include any Off Broadway or one off concerts you may have already heard about...

Hi Emi, we're there in November, so far we've booked Falsettos too, plus Bubble Boy in concert at 54 below (only one night November 9) and Bronx Tale (starts previewing November 3).

Sleep No More in case you fancy a bit of Punchdrunk. In terms of immersive theatre I also highly recommend Then She Fell. Just 15 audience members per show so quite an intimate piece of theatre. It's a beautiful experience - I've been twice and adored it both times.
On Broadway my current favourite is Fiddler on the Roof.

Thanks all!
Steffi, Sleep No More was on my list last time, but I feel bad about leaving Mum for several hours (she really wouldn't enjoy it) so it's a possibly but not likely for me!

Then She Fell might be a good alternative then unless your mum doesn't want to go anywhere near immersive theatre. ;-) It's not as exhausting and creepy as Sleep No More. The narrative is Alice in Wonderland based and you don't roam around freely but are guided from scene to scene. No masks either and no running or darkness. I found it quite a calming experience. There's bits of interaction but nothing intimidating or embarrassing. The only thing that might be an issue is the fact that you will probably get split up at least for parts of the show. It's a two hour performance so shorter than Sleep No More. :-)

James Monroe Iglehart is back at 54 Below in November -- not sure how different it is than his last solo show there, but that experience was so fun and entertaining. And the perfect length. 54below.com/events/james-monroe-iglehart/

I'll also be in New York in early November. Hoping the New York Theatre Workshop Othello coincides with my stay - it's still currently listed as 'late 2016'

Booked for Sweet Charity with Sutton Foster too. Our 25th anniversary is shaping up nicely.

Avoid Thanksgiving Day, it gets mega expensive! Normally go for 12 days Tuesday to Sunday Matinee or Friday to Sunday Matinee 10 days.
Going early November, so want to catch;
The Cherry Orchard Waitress Dear Evan Hansen The Front Page In Transit Natasha, Pierre....... Heisenberg Oh Hello Paramour Cats The Humans Holiday Inn A Bronx Tale Falsettos
Might see Fiddler again and see Phantom again, as a Thursday matinee.
I avoid off Broadway, as you have to see a lot of experimental theatre, to see something decent, as they say the cream floats to the top. Also what you can do off Broadway, you can replicate easily in London. If I did see something it probably be Sweet Charity.

Thanks for the info! I'm in NYC for New Years and early January so if I can get a ticket I will definitely go see Othello.

Actually this year the week of Thanksgiving turned out to be way cheaper than the 4 weeks or so around it (which was my window for going) weird, but for some reason flight/hotel combinations worked out for then, unintentionally.
I might try and catch Othello ...not literally with a net or anything.

I am also going to be in NY Thanksgiving week and have booked the following so far: Hamilton Great Comet Waitress Dear Evan Hansen
I'm also planning to book for Color Purple once I can find a discount for November and hope to fit in as many of the rest of my Shortlist as possible. I should be able to manage 6 more. It's going to be a busy week :-)
Front Page Falsettos Dead Poets Society Holiday Inn Sweet Charity School of Rock Bronx Tale In Transit Radio City Christmas Spectacular Spamilton (if it extends again)

Emma just out of interest and I am sure you are well aware, hotels in New York can he crippling expensive, unless you are a trustafarian, which I'm not do you stay in a real decent hotel, that costs a fortune of do you aim for a more reasonable basic hotel and have more nights? I get an apartment now and done with hotels and stay in the Candlewood Inn, which gives me a small kitchenette, so can make some food up, a bit healthier than the delis and has a launderette in the basement, so gives me an opportunity to launder after a week.

Over the years I've stayed in all manner of places from VERY basic hostel style to fancier hotels that were on offer for various reasons (one was in the middle of remodelling so heavily discounted) I usually go for as decent a place I can afford now, as because I always go for a week and usually bring Mum as well, I want us to be comfortable. This time we're actually staying out on Long Island, which also added to the discount.

I stay in Brooklyn. For the price of a broom closet with shared bath in Manhattan, I can get a decent double room & breakfast across the bridge.
Just booked for Love Love Love ( I admit primarily to gaze upon Richard Armitage!) and it's surprisingly already 60% sold for the dates I wanted.
