The fact that Welby himself was around those Christian summer camps at the same time that Smyth was abusing boys in the UK, and yet claims to have known nothing about it until 2013 is deeply suspicious. That he was then more concerned with the church's reputation than justice for victims, and failed to report Smyth to the police immediately means he should have been sacked when the report was first published, never mind asking him to resign now. Despicable man.

The only safeguarding that the CoE has done is for its reputation. It is time that Justin Welby fell on to his sceptre.

Can i just ask why in the world we are posting this on a theatre discussion forum site Because there is a section for non theatre related topics If you don’t like it or find real life too uncomfortable to deal with Don’t read and move on Or wait until someone writes a play about it and then go see it and post your thoughts

I find it VERY distressing and upsetting That in England there is NO OBLIGATION or LAW which makes reporting child abuse statutory It’s crazy when they pursued people in the riots beyond all belief this year to make “examples” from them there is a total lack of accountability from anyone including government on child abuse They managed to pass all sorts of bullsh*t pointless laws during Covid when it suited their needs The number of child abuse scandals in this country is beyond appalling and the systemic cover ups and institutional arrogance shows the sickening nature of people and society The responsibility falls on a limited group of professionals who are regulated by regulating bodies So for example a doctor or nurse who doesn’t act on knowledge or information of child abuse Will face investigation or sanctions from the GMC or NMC But this doesn’t translate to a law or the majority of society

It's such a disgusting story that unfortunately I am not surprised about. The sooner Welby and his chums leave the House of lords the better

Philip Schofield didn't report his brother either. Which seems to have flown under the radar a bit, overshadowed by Philips own problematic relationships most likely.

Think that is a bit unfair, Justin Welby is the anointed one by the special one above. Out of the thousands of schools up and down the land, it is just pure fluke and coincidence he went to Elton.
