I watched two game shows last night, The Wheel and a new one, Parental Guidance.
Love The Wheel, series link so never miss it. Michael McIntyre is the prefect host, the only change I would make is not allowing the same contestant to return immediately during the main game. Yesterday I thought the wrong answer - Tea Triangle - to the first question about Yorkshire. Yorkshire Tea is the best in the world and I was completely unaware of Yorkshire's rhubarb growing. Learn something every day. I was genuinely upset that nobody won anything .
I always try new game and quiz shows, by which i mean record the first episode and then decide whether to set a series link.. Very unimpressed with Parental Guidance. The offspring appeared uncomfortable, Alison Hammond indirectly designated her son ignorant about almost everything and in the process showed it's a game that could be won by not participating until the final round. Won't watch it again. I think it would work better without celebrities as a daytime show and a format where both generations answer questions. Looking forward to the return of the 1% Club in that time slot which I think is another brilliant format and host.
I record every episode of Countdown. Colin Murray is best host since dear old Richard Whiteley, Rachel Riley's ...ermm... mathematical skills never fail to impress. As for Pointless, The Chase and Richard Osman's House Of Games I have series links for all new episodes though I often use the speed view with subtitles facility so it takes a third of the running time to watch them.
I'd be interested to read other members' views on these sort of shows, which if any do you watch ? Any favourites, any you think deserve a revival ?
