Woke up stupidly early so watched the first two episodes of Marvels latest tenuous offshoot tv series. I loved ‘Wandavision’ and theres little doubt that Agatha Harkness was the MVP of that series. So they’ve done the only logical thing and given Agatha her own series.
We join her in the first episode as a just back from suspension cop investigating a dead body in the woods in some crazy scandi-noir pastiche. This goes on for about fifteen minutes until something or someone jars Agatha out of her created world, and the real story & its characters pop up. In short, she needs to form a coven and walk ‘The Witches Road’ to get her powers back…like you do!
I didn’t love the first episode; it was a bit ‘off’, but the second found its stride and by the time the coven start singing and their journey gets going I was sold! Patti Lupone is good value, as are all of the coven in their own ways. Joe Locke’s American accent wavers between convincing & Surrey many times but his character is, I suspect, one of the central mysteries to come and he’s doing good work. Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
