Thanks for the links. I guess we can assume that this is a Marmite show given that some people hate it and some people love it. But it clearly isn't an across-the-board condemnation, even if those who disliked it, REALLY disliked it.

She had a fabulous career
I just think she is way past her acting or creative peak If you look at the move Nicole Kidman has made into the small screen
It’s stunning

Blanchett has done plenty of good work on the smalls screen, like Mrs America for example.

The only stunning thing about Kidman's recent TV adventures is how progressively awful the wigs are getting.

Are we all forgetting that she was nominated for an Oscar in 2023 for a film and performance that got absolute raves? It was also an extremely tight race and if Yeoh had been in another year it would have been Cate’s. She has surpassed being debated whether she’s relevant or not. If a project of hers flops no one cares. So much so she doesn’t care what she appears in On a budget of 25 million dollars Tar grossed 29 million dollars the second lowest of all the films nominated for best picture that year At the end of day box office receipts are what matter And she hasn’t actually won an Oscar since 2013 Since then her films have been offering ever diminishing returns And her choice of material becomes increasingly desperate Pointless having talent if you don’t know how or where to use it correctly I mean box office is great and all but Tár is one of the best films of the last few years - I guess it’s long but it’s also funny and quite accessible, hardly what I’d call pretentious or desperate (both of which are fairly worthless criticisms)

I thought Cate B was exceptional in Tar.

Parsley I find your determination to minimise Blanchetts career and talent quite unpleasant at this point.
She is one of the most in demand actresses in the world- take a look at the list of directors she has worked with- and is lined up to work with.
She may have lost out on the Oscar for Tar- but you forget she won almost every other award going for it including the BAFTA and Golden Globe. I don’t think this suggests her career is over and she is past her peak.
I also would hold Nicole Kidmans career up as the benchmark -have you seen her recent Netflix monstrosity’s?

I am still not over that Cate lost out to Michelle Yeo- utter travesty imo.

I have… it’s awful…
See The Perfect Couple on Netflix and get back to me if you want to damn a whole career for one bad movie/tv show…
Pretty sure Blanchett isn’t to blame for how bad that movie was.

Anyway.
I’m excited to
See Cate on stage
Again.
Despite her career being on
It’s last legs
Maybe Panto is next for her!

I just don't understand why you hate Cate Blanchett so much, it's so silly. Having badly rated projects, doesn't mean you are a bad actor, some actors go through rough patches of getting bad projects in their career, doesn't mean they are necessarily not good at acting, there are recent projects of Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock, which haven't been amazingly reviewed, but that doesn't mean they're past their career peak. You make it seem like her career is finished. Anyway, the Perfect Couple has 65% on Rotten Tomatoes compared to 81% for Disclaimer, so those aren't good projects to compare if you want to suggest Cate Blanchett's career is failing.

The nastiness on this forum does, at times, have me questioning some folk. No actor or actress, playwright or director, sets out to create something below par and, as 'Meryl Streep' says, even the greatest have had their duds. We don't all have to like every performer. There is someone many of you on here rave about and who I wouldn't go and watch if you gave me a comp - but I respect her career and I respect your opinions. As for Blanchett, I've never seen her on stage. On film, I think she's one of the best and most intelligent actresses of her generation. Can we not just be pleased someone of her calibre wants to come and perform on the London stage.

A negative opinion Is as valid as a positive one Totally depends on how it's delivered. Some people here go on incessantly about something or someone they don't like. That's not valid, that's just boring.

Yes, an actress whose most recent stage appearance in London was one of the worst productions of the past ten years who is now about to star in a production of a play that often fails in English translation that is charging £195 a ticket for the best seats is beyond criticism.

If I don't like something I generally don't post on a thread about it, incessantly. Yes, it does feel like dear Parsley here just has a hate boner for Cate. The amount of times he participated in this thread just to sh*t on her is mind-boggling. Discussion has already died down, and he started it up again just to sh*t on her new TV show in a thread about The Seagull. This dogged persistence is bordering on obsession. I think we can safely disregard Parsley's opinions when it comes to Ms Blanchett. I wouldn't bank on the opinions of an obsessed man to have any semblance to the truth.

I almost forget to ask. Is there anyway we could still get tickets for the opening night? From what I see it's been sold out since the very start, even before the members sale. Is it possible that they are all snapped up by barbican Patrons or that Barbican is holding on to tickets to possibly sell on the day itself?
