I always found it quite a depressing film, and that’s before we learned how the studio was abusing Judy.

I am in awe if the colour, the detail of the make-up and costumes and the 'special effects' at the time- Glinda's bubble; I mean, this was 1939!

A film I watched incessantly from the ages of about 8 to 12, which morphed very aptly into an early teen obsession with Return To Oz, which morphed naturally into a late teen obsession with Wicked! I also have vivid dusty VHS memories of the Liza Minnelli voiced animated sequel from the 1970s.
I always remember my grandfather telling a story about seeing the Wizard Of Oz for the first time as a young boy in the 1940s and vomiting in confusion when the change from sepia to colour happened!

Dorothy receiving electric shock therapy at the start, Mombi and her severed heads, the terrifying claymation. Amazing!

I’m more interested in the urban myths of things like the munchkin that can allegedly be seen hanging from a tree than actually watching it again all the way through, it’s showing its age a lot and is very creaky to try and watch it all the way through: apart from Sam Raimis ‘Oz The Great And Powerful’ (which I wasn’t impressed with, not helped by James Franco as its lead) I’m surprised there haven’t been more follow up films churned out.
