And their artwork, such as it is, is still so lazy and unimaginative. It's a bugbear of mine.

Managed to just get a £10 ticket for the first preview Last time I saw Corden I ended up being on stage carrying a trunk ,thankfully that won’t happen this time even though it was a lot of fun! I see it 90 minutes no interval.

When you look at some of the really gorgeous artwork around that makes theatre look a smidge exciting, then you look at the flat, boring Old Vic posters, you wonder why anyone goes.

Couldn't agree more. It's so lazy! I saw one for The Constituent on the tube. Just pink with two small black and white headshots of the actors and the title in white. Knocked up in 30 seconds. I hope whoever takes over from Warchus changes this. Poster art is a particular interest of mine and the Old Vic has been coasting for years now.

I like the Old Vic posters personally - give me that clean look over some of the crap we have as posters currently (Next To Normal I'm looking at you)
And they always release an updated one once there are production images out (Machinal, Groundhog Day and Sylvia all had updated versions once shots were done)

Can anyone who’s been to an OV performance with stage stalls seating before confirm whether the on stage seating is tiered or not please? I booked assuming that’d be the case but would be good to know!

I also really like the minimalist approach to the Old Vic posters, helped by the fact they have a lot of stars in their shows so the headshots alone are pushing the tickets!

I also like it especially when they are creative with them like the original Groundhog Day with the title repeated on a list and recently Just For One Day using the Live Aid logo.

I don't think you can call the Old Vic branding lazy considering they paid a marketing agency to come up with it. No different to what the NT used to have during the Hytner era.

It's totally different! The Hytner NT era used actual images on the posters (although I disliked the removal of the credits given to cast and crew). The Old Vic are being ripped off by their marketing agency if you ask me. It's totally lazy, just pick a random colour and bung some names on! They had great posters in the Spacey era.

Hytner hasn't been at the NT for nearly 10 years, the world of marketing has changed a lot since then, as have audiences. I wouldn't be happy if my marketing agency was looking to a decade ago for inspiration! But regardless, I don't think you can argue they're the same.

Poster image = good Plain background with lettering = bit crap That's regardless of what era we're referring to.

Is this the offending item? Looks like it’s advertising a sitcom.

The smiley pics are somewhat at odds with the quote.

The smiley pics are somewhat at odds with the quote. It's just temporary photos, they'll have a proper poster by the time the show opens.

I like the core idea of a base colour and base title colour, and then that gives them the room to play if they want to. Once The Constituent opens, I'm sure the poster image will change to a production photo but with the same font title on top.

The artwork such as Woyzeck and King Kear were effective due to a strong central image. I get that the more recent letters-only artwork creates a brand identity but it makes the old Kenwright photoshopped numbers look like masterpieces by comparison. Sorry, I know I've derailed this thread so my apologies!

I see it 90 minutes no interval. Is that new information? I assumed longer, will be quite a wait until my 23:05 train home. From Waterloo!
