Agree it looks great.
Is it the same production as the USA one (that everyone slagged off) though or a new production?
I have always been very impressed with the production values of things I have seen in Hamburg :-)

Agree it looks great. Is it the same production as the USA one (that everyone slagged off) though or a new production? I have always been very impressed with the production values of things I have seen in Hamburg :-) It is and it’s not. They got a new director Casey Nicholaw (Aladdin), new costume designer Greg Barnes (Aladdin), but same set designer as Paper Mill, although much improved and expanded on. I don’t know how much they changed in terms of story and book. But with this new team it should be much better than it was at Paper Mill. Greg Barnes alone is known for beautiful gorgeous costumes. Which was a huge weak spot in the last productionz In another video the director also talks about him making sure it to look sophisticated and one of the producers talking about it being on a scale Disney shows are know for. Which the Paper Mill production certainly was not. I also saw a lot of puppets in the rehearsal room and I’m getting more and more excited as details are released.

Is this still due for London? They are hoping to open at Drury Lane early 25 after Elf has done a season there.

Casey Nicholaw is a solid choice for Hercules, it's more of a musical comedy tonally and he's very experienced in that regard.
In a way, the change of director is similar to what happened to The Devil Wears Prada where the directors ended up being replaced.

It would be nice to see a Disney musical that's not geared towards the kiddie winks for a change and - like "Hunchback" - "Hercules" has more of an grown up feel about it. Hercules is not adult oriented in the slightest!

Hercules is not adult oriented in the slightest! It's a kids movie and has some adult orientated fun. But it's not an adult film. Disney is family aimed from the youngest to oldeste

The only Disney musical that was properly aimed at an adult audience was "Aida" which was also the one that wasn't based on a movie.
Movies that were based on adult-themed materials like Hunchback were watered down to the point of tedium to make them palatable to the typical Disney audience. Hercules definitely falls under the typical family fare though, snappy dialogues, a goofy hero and sassy heroine, funny sidekicks and a pantomime baddie. If it gets kids interested in Greek mythology, all the better, but even Lion King has a more grown-up feel about it than this.
Sadly Stage Entertainment has gone to ridiculous length to scare off the audience. Gotta love the new price categories of "Premium Front Row", "Premium Plus" and "Premium" before regular Category 1 begins somewhere around Row 20 and is still way above 100 Euro. I'll sit back and wait for the Dutch version, that will a) have fairer prices to begin with and b) far more generous discounts in due time.

Have to say, the puppetry looks great, not sure on Herc and Phil's costumes though.

Herc looks like they've gone overboard on the make up, especially in the photos released. And yeah his costume could be better. But overall I thought it looks good.

Since there was interest in this show... the local paper published an article today wondering if Hercules was flopping due to bad ticket sales one month after opening: www.abendblatt.de/hamburg/kultur/article242154616/Disneys-Hercules-Wird-das-Musical-zum-Flop.htmlThe article is behind a paywall, but I ran it through Google Translate: Hamburg. The piece had its premiere four weeks ago at the Stage Theater in the Neue Flora, but there are still plenty of tickets available. “From zero to hero”: Four weeks ago, Hercules , the son of the gods , set out to fight for a place in Olympus – and in the hearts of musical fans. It was the first premiere of a Disney musical in Hamburg , so expectations were high for the stage adaptation of the animated film from 1997. “The stage production of the Disney sandal opera has a great ensemble and lots of show value, but struggles with weaknesses in the original film “, said the Abendblatt in its premiere review. And now advance ticket sales are also weakening. Although “Disney's Hercules” has only been running at the Stage Theater in the Neue Flora for a good month, there are still plenty of tickets available for all performances, both on the cheaper weekdays and for the weekend performances. And almost always in all price categories. If you take a look at the seating plans in the advance booking portal, “Hercules” is currently selling worse than the 23-year-old top dog “The Lion King”, but better than the newly released oldie “Dance of the Vampires” in the operetta house - and that's about equal the level of “Frozen” , which has been residing in the Stage Theater an der Elbe since November 2021. Anna and Elsa are currently celebrating their 1000th performance and will move to Stuttgart after the final curtain on September 29, 2024 to make way for “MJ – The Michael Jackson Musical”. Stage Theater Hamburg: Comparing “Hercules” musical with “Frozen” is difficult Stage Entertainment does not want to confirm that “Hercules”, like “Hamilton” before it, seems to fail due to its commercial demands: “'Hercules' has had a super start. We are absolutely satisfied with the demand," says Stage Entertainment spokesman Stephan Jaekel in response to an inquiry from Abendblatt, "in fact, booking behavior is almost at the level of 'Frozen' at the time of comparison, and this had a premiere in the run-up to Christmas , which usually provides additional incentive to buy.” However, it must be noted that “Frozen” premiered in the middle of the pandemic, that stricter access rules (only for vaccinated and convalescent people) came into force at the time of the opening performances in November 2021, and that tourism, going out and gastronomy were more reminiscent of the realm of the dead of Hercules -Enemy Hades remembered. So a comparison is difficult.

Are they still planning to go to TRDL? I know tastes are different but it seems... dire(?)

Hello. I need help with theatre tickets. It’s been a few years since my last trip and I planned nothing in advance and got lucky with great seats and discounts. Any suggestion you wonderful people can provide is humbly appreciated.
Im in Hamburg last weekend in November and want to see Hercules, &Julia and MJ. Possibly HP Play too. Are there discounts available? Last time I went to Tina musical and got 50% off on Pretty Woman with my ticket to Tina. I did see that Hercules is offering a Summer discount. Will they also discount seats a week before I arrive?
Thank you.

Stage Entertainment very regularly offers 20-30% off - your best bet is to subscribe to their newsletter and/or follow them somewhere on social media. Mind that not all seats and dates will be available, but you can usually get reasonable discounted seats on the sides of the stalls. And it's not unlikely that the overpriced middle section will not be sold, so everyone will just shift to the middle (happened to us at Hamilton in Hamburg).
You can also try the "last minute" counter at Stage Entertainment headquarters, though again it's a gamble what will be availabe.
From what I'm hearing so far, none of the new shows (MJ + Julia) are selling well and Hercules has been selling terribly anyway.
Just don't expect any really good London-style last minute reductions. They much prefer to play to half empty houses than offer proper reductions.
Harry Potter is ATG - they also do regular offers, so you might want to subscribe/follow them as well. But the theatre is terrible with no real rake to speak of, so I wouldn't bother for what's an identikit production to London.

Quick heads-up: I've just bought a ticket through "Eventim" (who work with Stage Entertainment) for Hercules and it was 40% reduced! They have an offer on until the beginning of next week for performances until Christmas.

Does it pop up at checkout?

It was a limited offer for "Singles Day" that ended on 11th November.
If you're not going within the next two weeks, I would recommend waiting for a similar Black Friday offer.

Tarzan coming back to the Neue Flora late next year. Meaning closing of Hercules there. Didn’t do great business, not announced to be transferring to another city in Germany (which is usually the case for successful productions over there).

They haven't announced yet what's going to Stuttgart. Hercules seems unlikely but not impossible. It's been picking up a bit of business since they rearranged pricing to a more reasonable level and possibly because &Juliet and MJ are doing even worse business, so Hercules still seems the "better" choice compared to those.

Could they not just be transferring much of the physical production to London?
