Dearest readers, Does anyone know of a live stream of the weekend? As far as I know there's never been a live stream but videos go up pretty quickly on the Official London Theatre Youtube channel.

Westend live have just posted that there are unprecedented queues. - Aren't there always? So glad I haven't bothered.

I'm planning to head down in a little bit and hang out on the pavement as I have done in the last few years. Once again Idk how they can continue to run it this way. Surely it's dangerous at this point?

I really wanted to go this year but don't want to face the queues. I always went every year & loved it. - great atmosphere. However I'm just too old for all the queues & standing so long.

The best way forward would be a ballot for tickets. It has grown to an unprecedented level of popularity

I haven't been since the early Leicester Square days. That was a breeze! I hadn't paid much attention to it for years and was amazed at how it had moved and grown.

I went every year when I was younger and fitter and loved it. More recently I was lucky enough to have be invited into the VIP area a few times where I was able to sit, but that's all gone now. Too old now and can't stand for hours so I will just live with the lovely memories. Also you can now watch most of the acts online now and professionally recorded so I can, at least, get to see some of it.

I'd say they did better than in previous years in terms of filling the space. They reached capacity around 11am though and only let people in bit by bit. Still queues around the block.
I tried watching from outside the square which had been fine a few years ago but the gates are much higher now. Sound is horrible as well, a lot of echoes. I've left. It's a shame, it's such a great concept, it needs a bigger venue.

I'm not there- I'm currently at home doing overtime- but I'm just wondering, weatherwise, is it all okay?
Here in NW London we have lots of cloud coverage, some quite threatening, but no rain, with the occasional break of sun.
I'd hate to think of all of those people being caught in the rain!

Grey clouds but no rain so far. I'm glad for the cloud cover, that's better than the crazy heat on that concrete plaza.

Yes, over the years I think they realise people sit or watch from just outside the square so they've been slowly raising those barriers up, which definitely sucks. I know they've got to crowd control but some people just don't want to be stuck inside that hotbox that is the Square. And yeah, sound will always be an issue in an outdoors lash-up uncontrolled space.

Already loads of performances up on London Theatre Lives YouTube. Sound seems a lot better this year from the clips I’ve watched. Not sure how I feel about the massive singalong all the way through Hamilton. First time seeing the new mincemeat cast too, seemed good to me! Bevan actually seemed a lot clearer with her dictation.

They're pretty quick on getting the videos up on YouTube this year. Just watched Phantom- performing Prima Donna was a strange choice this year but nice for a change.

I like that Wicked did No Good Deed this year. And no Elsa at all for Frozen.
Glad it's stayed dry so far. The one time I went early to queue it was cloudy in the morning, but blazing sunshine by the time we were in. Worst sunburn I've ever had.

I've always thought of this as something of a young person's thing. I used to go to the Leicester Square version and first couple of years in Trafalgar Square. Great way to see clips from shows when I couldn't afford to just see whatever I wanted.
Confess zero desire to go now am in my late 40s. The crowds and the queues massively put me off. Also as others have said you can pick the clips you wanna see online now.
But yes - it probably is at the stage where it needs to be in a new space and/or be ticketed. Problem is most casts do it before/after/between shows so it can't really be far from West End!
Wonder how much extra ticket sales it drives for shows....

I think that for smaller shows on the second day, it definitely drives up sales. I don't think for the big shows it especially does much.

I've literally just watched the Hamilton clip and was amazed how the whole audience seemed to know every single word. I know none. But then if there was a Sondheim show up on the stage I'd know all the words.

Some of the later acts seemed a little less "family friendly" from what I've seen. Lots of bumping and grinding from Magic Mike and some of the Queenz lyrics were rather explicit for a Saturday afternoon show.
Even Mamma Mia had a lot of male flesh on display!

Is there a reason that (as far as I can tell) Kiss Me Kate specifically haven't had the upload to the youtube? did they not perform?
edit: oh also looks like matilda isn't up...

I've never seen Moulin Rouge before
