Bernadette Peters, Elaine Paige and doggies, doesn't get any better than that. I know this is a big thing on Broadway and Bernadette is one of its founders. She has spoken before about doing this in the UK with EP. It's going to be carnage on the day for sure. http://instagram.com/p/CzGriQLOm9Z

Yes, I read about this.
It is my understanding that Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore set up Broadway Barks with the intention of housing stray dogs quite some time ago. It's an annual event
When Mary Tyler Moore passed (again, my understanding) Bebe Neworth has taken over, with other big Broadway names associated.
Bernadette Peters and Elaine Paige have been friends for many years and now that Ms Peters is here in the UK for a period of time, it only seems logical.
I'm not sure exactly how it works but if it's charity and some little dog- or in the case, a cat get's re-homed- it can't be a bad thing surely?
* Whenever she's here Ms Peters also always takes time out to go to the National Gallery to see the Seurat painting- The Bathers at Asnières.

Bradley Jaden has also put this on his Instagram. I thought West End Woofs was a dramatisation of the Old Friends thread on this board.

The first ever live West End Woofs event (uk equivalent to the Broadway Barks annual event) is being held tomorrow at St Paul’s Church Covent Garden - tickets for sale here: westendwoofs.dog/Is anyone else going?

No. I am certainly aware of it and for the money would love a selfie with Bernadette.
But this is not what it's about and much as a dog person that I am (always had a dog back home) but and now that I am here, my current living arrangements are not appropriate for a dog.
As stated I am a dog person. I am not a cat person. Ironically though, cat forms part of my surname.

Plus I'd probably want to come away with all the dogs.
I did see on Bernadette's Instagram that the cast of Old Friends were all signing posters which presumably they are going to sell on the day. I'd love one of those.

A signed Old Friends poster would be a great collectors item.
Is a pets backstage policy purely up to each theatre as I've sometimes seen performers walking their dogs between shows or on the way to theatres?

I don’t know about policy but I’ve seen several times on Instagram someone will bring a their dog with them to the dressing rooms to hang out.

I am here and just to clarify, yes there are signed posters by the cast of Old Friends (it’s the reason I came down) but the posters are not of Old Friends but of West End Woofs

I was there. Didn’t ask for pics as it felt inappropriate as it was about the dogs. I will say seeing Bernadette and Elaine side by side was interesting… the same age yet one looks at least 10 years older than the other!
A very cute intimate event.

So, as you can tell from my previous post, I went down with the hope of purchasing a signed Sondheim Old Friends theatre poster. Disappointingly, they were only selling signed West End Woofs posters.
I've no doubt the weather kept many away but the set up outside was similar to that of the West End Flea market, with a few stall on either side of the central pathway. However it was a little muddy and there were lots of wet dogs. The main event was talking place inside the church, which I did not have a ticket for. However, despite the rain an the mud, it was kinda busy.
As I said in a previous post, my current living arrangements are not suitable for a dog.
The casts of Sondheim's Old Friends, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera and Hamilton were all there wearing a t-shirt from the respective show that were all in.
On the left hand side of the church is where official photographs were being taken. (I swear) that some of the cast of Coronation Street were there and I saw Gail Platt.
I too took photographs of- not with- Elaine Paige and Bernadette Peters. Theatreloverlondon, as I don't know what you look like, you must have been very close to me.
It was like, literally, playing spot the actor.
I spoke to Joanna Riding and Jeremy Secomb briefly and with Killian Donnelly at quite some length.
Others I saw, but didn't speak to- Biggins (he's always there), Jordan Luke Gage, Bonnie Langford, Charlie Stemp, Janie Dee, Damian Humbley.
Worth a visit just to see Ms Paige and Ms Peters in the flesh.

I never saw BP & EP outside, only once we were inside the church though I did see the cast members roaming. I had wondered where they were the whole time! Yes Gail, Kylian etc were there, they came up onstage and introduced some dogs. Inside the church was so intimate it felt bizzare- Lea Salonga was just casually sanding behind me at times… but very cool none the less.

Hadn’t seen much media around this but was a bit concerned to see Joanna Riding holding a two week old puppy for the cameras. It shouldn’t be removed from its mother at such a young age, that’s for sure.
I hope the event was a success though of course.
