Wow! So I’m visiting New York this week and I’ve just come out of Harmony the new broadway musical at the Ethel Barrymore Theater. The book, the music, the cast. It was a perfect 5 star show for me. A powerful story I didn’t realise I needed to see. I think this would sit perfectly in the west end since the story is based around an all male signing group from Germany Pre WW2. Manilow has written some moving and compelling songs and the book tells just as powerful a story. I say if you’re in NYC get a ticket!

Harmony was the first cast recording in ages that I fell in love with on first listen - so many songs are reminiscent of the 80s/90s style of musical theatre writing (the blockbuster area) which I much prefer to today's bland pop scores. Being German I am also familiar with the story of the Comedian Harmonists (we had a movie and our own musical about them).
I have already booked a ticket for my own upcoming New York trip and am very much looking forward to this!

Love him or loathe his, I don't think people recognise what a prolific songwriter Barry Manilow is.

I not really a fan but have seen him twice at the O2.
(There's really no nice way of saying this but) he's so old that he really doesn't move too much. He's like a mannequin stick man.Yet, despite his age his voice is still good and on both occasions, that arena was full!
It was pretty much the same show and he always ends on Copacabana.

I’m a big Fanilow, seen him many times and have even been front row, onstage in Vegas and held his hand while he sings 😻 I love him so much but up close, the combination of the Botox, tanning and the surgery are breath-taking. His eyes are sparkling in a face with very very little movement. He has written so many amazing songs, his career has endured for decades and I wish he could be recognised more for that.

I really enjoyed this. Wasn’t too sure at first, couldn’t see where it was going but then it turned out to be a pretty traditional musical comedy in act one and then gets a lot deeper in act two. Lovely music, and some great performances.
They have the best rush deal on Broadway, selling 18 $18 tix a performance - and I got the last one for yesterdays show!

I'm enjoying listening to the cast album ATM. Was the Rush ticket a good seat? Might try it on my next trip to NYC...

macksennett it was a brilliant seat, row E orchestra just off to the side. With the way their grosses have been, I doubt it lasts much longer unfortunately, so hopefully it will still be running.

Wow that's a great seat. What a bargain! Not going for a few months so it might well not be running, we'll see!

This probably won’t do macksennett any good, but I got email today announcing a “flash sale” on tickets to Harmony for performances through February 4: $79 for “non-premium” orchestra seats, $49 for “non-premium” mezzanine seats. The sale is good only to 9:59 am New York time tomorrow (Friday, January 5). No discount code is required, and all fees are included. I have already seen the show, so I didn’t look too closely at what’s available, but at a random performance I selected, it looked like there were plenty of $79 orchestra seats available starting at Row M.

Thanks - too early for me but I appreciate the sentiment! Bargain price!
