However, as a satire it doesn't have a lot to say in terms of parallels to modern day politics (outside of a few references). The sets and screen projections are congratulated but are criticised somewhat for remaining a flat black-and-white colourscheme to recreate the movie. Each reviewer had different opinions on Coogan's roles, some finding the President a bit of a boring straight-man, while others found the RAF general awkward and wooden - but they all agree Strangelove is (obviously) the best role of the four he plays. It's funny to see what characters resonate with different people.

These reviews aren’t going to shift tickets, think I will now wait for a more reasonably priced ticket.

These reviews aren’t going to shift tickets, think I will now wait for a more reasonably priced ticket. When they dumped the Laurie Johnson version of "Tenderness" so integral to the opening credits of the movie, replacing it with a cast rendition of the godawful Commitments version, that was a creative crime too much for me to care after that. If there's still any front row £39.50 tickets going I would recommend. The £205 price throughout the theatre is ludicrous for this improv junk.

A load of under 30s tickets in the stalls have just become available for this on Monday — DMT very kindly switched the much worse seat I had at Tuesday’s performance and gave me a £10 voucher for the price difference!

Saw it tonight and not helped by the two halfwits sitting behind me who laughed extra loud at every f***ing line like they were Scooby Doo and added ‘oohs’ ‘ahs’’ and ‘oh nos’ every thirty seconds like there was a red button to assist the mentally deficient in watching this, it just wasn’t funny: line after line just fell flat, best thing I can say about this is that Coogan didn’t flub any lines but his Muffley was just non-descript and his Dr. Strangelove was like an extra camp supporting role from Bruno.
I sat second row and apart from the woman in the front row who kept trying to stand up to see what was going on at the back of the table (you didn’t miss much dear, try using both your brain cells in future), the view was fine: I’m so glad I didn’t pay full price for this . I have given this 3 stars but it was one of the biggest disappointments of the year, I can understand people walking out at the interval.

Is there a position on the front row that's less restricted than the rest? I’d go for one of the seats on the right hand side as a lot of the action takes place on that side of the stage, there are a couple of moments when you will only see the top of the heads of people sat behind the table but you will be able to work out who is saying what without popping up like a Jack in the Box.

I found this a bit functional and a bit laboured, unfortunately, and don’t think it has much reason to exist apart from Coogan wanting to go one better than Sellers. It doesn’t naturally lend itself to the stage and I think Foley treats it with more irreverence than is strictly warranted. It is funny, but then it was always going to be — it should also have some heft and a bit of terror, and it just doesn’t.

Saw this last night. Front row stalls is fine - yes you miss the odd head at times, but nothing your brain can't fill in.
Thought it was ok - just felt a bit pointless. Some amusing moments, I liked the musical interludes, I really enjoyed John Hopkins. But it was slow, especially given its short length (2h10). Also (and I've not seen the film, but I understand this is how it was done originally) the multi-roling by Coogan didn't really add anything. It wasn't even done in a farcical way a la 39 Steps.

Caught this from the front row last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not the serious comedy it could have been, but there are a lot of laughs (mostly at the stupidity of men in positions of power) and the three leads are a delight. Admittedly it's not a massive stretch for any of them, even with Steve Coogan flipping between four roles, but the excellent John Hopkins and Giles Terera easily nail their ott roles without slipping into panto mode, and Coogan mines every laugh in the absurdity of each of his different characters.
Yes it lacks bite, despite a few lines shoehorned in to mirror the current news situation, but it works very well as a broad piece of entertainment, I think. Cleverly staged and fast paced, I had a really good time and will even now try the film (which I've never seen). A fun four stars from me

We were stage left which was pretty good. A fair amount of acton there with all three stars (more than stage right I'd say). You do miss parts of the Pentagon scenes when Steve Coogan disappears behind the table, but you can imagine what's going on easily enough and it's not for long periods. In the plane scenes they've raised him up in the centre a bit so you can see him. All in all I was more than happy for the price, and the occasional restriction on the view didn't bother me, especially for the price compared to the rest of the stalls. It was great being that close to the action.

NT Live announced from 27 March in cinemas! So if you play your cards right you can probably see the film of the stage adaptation of a film in a theatre doubling as a cinema.
