It even has a website already www.drstrangelove.comand the backing of Christiane Kubrick. Coming to a Delfont Mackintosh venue to be confirmed.

With Foley’s involvement, I wonder if this is planning to do a run at the Birmingham Rep (where he is Artistic Director) before it goes to the West End like Spitting Image did? Was surprised to see that wasn’t the case for The Crown Jewels.

It is the first time the Kubrick estate has licensed any of his work to be done on stage I believe. The original book the film was based on didn't feature the character Dr Strangelove but was developed by Kubrick and his co writers when adapting the book into a screenplay.
The biggest challenge here will be finding the right actor with the talent to portray the title character and the two other characters Peter Sellars played in the original film I feel.

I tend to think AI would have found his Dr Strangelove before approaching the Estate.
Current frontrunners for the role include anyone with the last name Fiennes, plus Lily Allen.

Talented creatives but … Is this going to be like 39 Steps? I see Foley did a four actor Ben Hur once upon a time.

Foley could probably do with a hit after Spitting Image (and potentially The Crown Jewels).
Someone tweeted about Sptting Image (positively) at the interval and it honestly looked like they were the only 2 people there. Amazing when you think how rammed it was for Streetcar.

Rainn Wilson is giving a big shout out on Instagram to Steve Carrell to be in this which I think could be good, but part of me is thinking a UK production could end up with someone like Les Dennis in the leads🤣

Peter Sellers is a tough act to follow for a performer - I wonder if they’ll choose to have his roles as Strangelove, the President and Captain Mandrake all played by the same actor (although the conversation between the President and Strangelove would be a challenge!)

Has Armando Iannucci ever written for the theatre? I would imagine he'll probably look at people he's worked with before.

The last time Patrick Miles and David Luff produced an adaptation they managed to lure Bryan Cranston so I actually think they have the power to really attract a real comic A-Lister. A star like Steve Carrel is actually possible!

Some great choices but might they look for someone slightly younger as most of the suggestions are over or near 60 and it could be a very gruelling role playing multiple roles. But it is an iconic role and will be a world premiere so I agree they will hopefully get a really big name.

Peter Serafinowicz might be a good choice for this.

Peter is a great choice too.
We do assume that the lead actor will play all 3 roles Peter Sellars played in the film and also he was going to play the B52 commander Kong but hurt his foot and couldn't work in the confined spaces of the plane set.
Thinking of actors who have had a great knack of doing iconic characters how about Michael Sheen ?

Foley has the reputation of being a great comedy director and so has a long list of credits but if you look at them the flops outnumber the hits by some margin. His involvement in this does not bode well.

Peter Serafinowicz might be a good choice for this. I am totally on-board with this casting idea! Don’t think he has done much stage/live work, but his current Brian Butterfield tour is proof he is a brilliant character performer.
