I have just caught up with last night’s Corrie. There was an incredible scene between her and Claire Sweeney.
It made think that Maureen Lipman would have been an incredible Mama Rose in Gypsy.

I have a vague memory of Ms. Lipman being good as Ruth Sherwood in Wonderful Town (Queens Theatre, 1986) .

She also played Madame Armfeldt in Trevor Nunn’s production of ‘A Little Night Music’.

There was a gay nightclub behind the Menier where Maureen Lipman was performing in A Little Night Music. The agreement was that they kept the music volume low until after the show finished. One night the music was quite loud so Maureen went next door into the club mid show in full costume and asked them to turn down the volume. Of course they did so immediately and I'd have loved to have seen their faces.
