Saw this tonight and really liked it: my knowledge of basketball is minimal (I can only name a handful of players and most of them get a mention ) but it’s more of a film about business and closing deals that doesn’t follow the normal routine of doing something like Wall Street or The Wolf Of Wall Street and there were good performances from all involved (Ben Affleck has done some diabolical stuff in recent years but he’s pretty good in this but it’s more Matt Damon and Jason Batemans film)
Unless you were born under a rock you will know that Jordan signed a deal with Nike but it’s an enjoyable ride getting there, with a top notch 80s soundtrack (Springsteen, Cyndi Lauder, Run DMC and er, Big Country included): it’s made by Amazon Studios but I am glad I saw it on a big screen with a decent sound system.

I saw this yesterday at The Barbican and had a good time. It's nothing special but it's a solidly made version of this type of film with a good few chuckles to keep you going. Everyone kind of just does their usual schtick, Jason Bateman probably most egregiously, but it doesn't really work against the film or anything so it's not really a drawback. There's also nothing flashy about the camerawork, it's just competently put together, but again I wasn't looking for that from this. It's definitely a dad kinda film, but even if you're not a dad, sometimes you're just in the mood for some dadcore and this fills that need. I'm seeing Godland on Monday so that's sure to be quite the contrast.

It was great seeing Chris Tucker in a film, think he only does a film every few years.
Was amusing to find out that the actor who played Michael Jordan's dad is Viola Davis' husband.

Watchable but largely forgettable. A lot of the dialogue is crudely expositional or there to simply relay a factoid. Matt Damon is good, but director Ben Affleck is rather pantomime in his on-screen role. Contrary to some reviewers, I thought the decision not to show Jordan worked well. Three stars.

It’s now available on Prime, if you want to investigate.
