It’s so interesting
Now she has gone to Hollywood
And “looks different”
She does think she is IT
In reality she struck it lucky with a mediocre TV series
Overexposed to her ratio of talent TBH

Video going around on X of Hannah Waddingham telling off a photographer for telling her to show a bit of leg whilst he took a photo of her. She refused and stormed off, giving him a telling off (called him a d!ck, and asked him if he'd ask a man to do the same). Strange when the same woman sexually harassed Tom Francis on stage later that evening saying she wanted to throw her knickers at him. What if a man said that after a woman performed? I haven't seen the ceremony yet, so I didn't know about that. My first instinct was to think 'of course she's right.' However, the more I think about it, especially the event it was, I'm not sure. It is the exact sort of event where more and more men and non-binary people wear dresses/skirts - I'm thinking Billy Porter or Sam Smith. As I say, not sure.

Not directly about the Oliviers, but watching the awards it suddenly dawned on my it’s NT 60 this year. Does my one think there will be some sort of celebration of it?

Thought some more, and I don’t want it to sound like Hannah W is fair game for photographers. She should not be made to feel uncomfortable, it was more the ‘you wouldn’t ask a man to do that’ that I was responding to.

It’s a little different to say a cheeky comment- as opposed to being asked to ‘show some skin’ I think? Good on her I say.

Yes lots of men and non-binary people do wear skirts and dresses but absolutely no photographer would ask Billy Porter to show some leg on the red carpet.

I have it on VERY good authority that both Dear England and Mincemeat are going to Broadway in 2025. Madness, but true. Also The Motive and the Cue with both leads. Dear England I think would do well at the Vivian Beaumont as a limited run, it would need a big Broadway theatre for a commercial run and there aren't many available. The Motive and the Cue transferring isn't too surprising although I wonder who will they get for Elizabeth Taylor? The Booth would be perfect for it. The Booth or the Golden would be the best theatres. All the other Broadway theatres that are smaller are owned by non profits.

Dear England is a great play but is perceived to be too British in its subject matter. It is going to be a challenge to present it in New York. To paraphrase mrbarnaby, "I have it on VERY VERY good authority."

I wonder if they'll dump Vindaloo and the Theresa May/Boris Johnson stuff mid Atlantic.

The Guardian saying Guardian things >>>
Unclear how more Hytner and less Jamie Lloyd would help Ms Akbar's perceived imbalance. Ditto Marisha Wallace instead of Nicole S.
Imo, there is a case for other productions to be in the revival catagory (rather than The Effect), and the Almedia's King Lear would be among my contenders. Though that would mean tossing out a living woman for a very dead white bloke.
She also seems to be clueless as to how the Oliviers/SOLT machine works. Was this her first year watching/reviewing it?

To paraphrase mrbarnaby, "I have it on VERY VERY good authority." This may say something about the appeal of Dear England to New York audiences: last month I went to an NT Live screening of Dear England in Manhattan, at which there were many empty seats in the theater. The same theater had been sold out for an NT Live screening of Vanya a couple of weeks earlier.

I'm American and saw it at the NT with an English friend whose enthusiasm (along with the audience's) really enhanced my appreciation of the play. I think it could work here (in NYC) at some point. I was on the bus in Manhattan about a year ago and heard New York schoolboys talking about Fulham, Chelsea, etc.

I watched it this afternoon. Highlight was easily Tom Francis doing Sunset Boulevard. Realising he was on the steps outside was weirdlythrilling in the same way it was in the Savoy. She seems lovely but I’m slightly baffled by the popularity of Hannah W, and the fact she’s somehow become the face of British theatre when she hasn’t done any in over a decade. I think I’d rather them get Manford back next year. Agree, re Hannah - she just seems like a poster girl at this point. But it feels like she abandoned legit stage work (acting) years ago, and in a live setting feels more like an "entertainer".

Hannah was totally right to call out that photographer. It was objectification. Unfortunately what she said on stage about Tom Francis was also objectification and I'm very uncomfortable about the huge amount of praise for Hannah on the former and the almost total lack of balance by pointing out the latter. And I say that as someone that likes Hannah.

I agree, I watched this last night and thought that comment was inappropriate.

I totally agree and it actually seems more baffling after seeing the video of her with the photographer, that just a few hours later she would think it’s appropriate to make the comment towards Tom?!

I sent the Hannah video to my mate this morning. I found it a bit performative (I say this as I’ve watched ma y Hannah interviews, podcasts etc) and she always makes a point of ‘I’m such a badass feminist, men are sh*t blah blah- and the American audiences always LAP IT UP. As a woman, my first thought was but your dress has a big slit where the leg is intentionally meant to pop out… photographers on red carpets always shout at celebs to give certain angles, twirl, hold a dress in a certain angle so they can mutually get a great photo. I did not get the sense the photographer was being a creep but rather just wanting her to get the most out of the dress and there for the photo.

Omg I really sound like I hate her don’t I 😭- I don’t, just as someone who has followed her career over the last year I’ve noticed somethings that I think are sooooo jarring

I think she's a complete hypocrite after what she said to Tom Francis the sentiment of which was on a par with 'bloke down the pub' type of "you would though, wouldn't you, given the chance I mean..." nonsense. In both instances she abused her position as a celebrity in the public eye.

In both instances she abused her position as a celebrity in the public eye. Yes. Oddly enough, I raised this with a few people on social media and all defended Hannah for her knickers comment. "She might know Tom", "but in Sunset Joe is sexy so Hannah was responding to that". One said the photographer was lecherous. I said that the Cambridge Dictionary defines lecherous as 'showing a strong sexual interest in someone' and asked in what context other than sexual can that knickers comment be taken? Answer: "you're focusing on the wrong thing, that was just an improvised live joke". Really? I'm very disappointed in the double standards on display here. Can you imagine if a male host had made a sexual remark about Nicole Sherzinger?
