Loved loved loved this. A cross between Big Brother and Crystal Maze with lots of backstabbing and a gorgeous backdrop of the Scottish highlands and Claudia Winkleman presenting.
Highly recommended, all 12 eps on iplayer now. Let’s not spoil it for people who haven’t caught on yet.
One question.. why is there a cash prize allowed on this when it’s not allowed on other bbc shows like Drag Race U.K.?

I have loved this too, and it isn't something I'd usually watch! Actual gasps and a moist eye for the finale - proper event TV.
I don't know about the prize money but seems fair enough to me, this was a competition that could go a variety of ways, drag race all comes down to one opinion (and/or producers) which isn't quite the same.

Apart from Bake-Off I don’t really bother with stuff like this, so I was surprised how good this turned out to be. I don’t get emotionally invested in much telly anymore, but the final round table was incredibly tense. Great stuff.
I just hope they don’t bleed the concept dry.

I would imagine it's the production company that put up the money for the prize on their own show. Ru and World of Wonder use alot of product placement in the US version, and they can't do that on the BBC. They're not gonna part with the own money, they're too cheap. |

In regards to the prize money I believe they can do it because the contestants have earnt it. They’ve done challenges and they’re the ones voting people out. No producer involvement in who wins.
Unlike Drag Race where you have a panel of judges where it’s all a matter of opinion and the winner is ultimately decided by the producers of the show.

Also worth saying for people giving it a try on iPlayer... it starts slow. There are 22 contestants to meet and eps 1 and 2 have a lot of talking. It starts taking off in ep 3 and doesn't stop from there. I nearly gave up at the start, so glad I didn't. I started watching on Tuesday so had 10 eps to binge watch and disagree with this. I was hooked within first 15 mins, especially after the shock decision before they enter tha Castle. Claudia is brilliant, and the way it's filmed is stunning. Proper event tv that I haven't seen in many years. The last 30 minutes of the finale were gripping Usually hate this kind of thing, but I think the fact it's more game show than reality TV helps. If it's staged/scripted then it doesn't feel it most of the time |

I think the next season will all depend on casting. This one had such a diverse set of people, it was gripping to watch. Would love to see 1 or 2 familiar faces as well. What great TV this was. I may have stayed up until 4am binging this the night I found out about it.

Also if anyone needs their Traitors fix. Very similar show called "The mole" is on Netflix.
Fantastic watch as well. Quite a few different rules though as they actually try to sabotage the challenges.

It is the same one! Not only is it the same one, it's the exact same challenges, sets etc! They filmed it right after the British one wrapped. It's on Peacock (available on Sky) in January |

Wasn't sold for the first few episodes but it really does pick up. Great, fun telly!
I think it benefited from casting 'normal' people as the contestants rather than the Love Island types you get so often on reality shows these days.

Really enjoyed this series, even though the end game is fundamentally flawed.
The Mole ran two UK series about 20 years ago. Much more successful internationally than the UK. If you really want to see that one at its best, look out for some seasons that fans have subtitled into English.
Australian Traitors is findable online too, but I haven’t watched that one. Reviews are mixed.

Couldn't enjoy this due to the bizzare production choice to use so many snippets of vocal music. The soundtrack felt like a teenager with ADHD skipping through an antsy Spotify playlist. Instead of getting a composer to score it, or a Super to get music on sync then letting a track play for more than 20 seconds to create depth and tension, they just constantly buffered through any song vaguely classified in this new genre of edgy-vocal/big-drop trailer-music.

Absolutely loved this after initially thinking the trailers made it look pretty crap. But once it got going it was so addictive. I felt Claudia gave just the right tone to proceedings (big fan anyway: despite her lack of love for musical theatre!). Oh I loved the song snippets and other music along the way - totally OTT but it added to the thrill of it all.
My only negative was with the challenges which I felt were mostly were pretty dull to watch (esp. the physical ones) and came across as little more than fillers - especially when each episode was more geared towards the proper excitement at the table: LOVED those! But more of the psychological challenges where their minds feel played with and doubt is cast etc… would not go amiss next time.
But a great series.

I hope they keep the prize fund challenges in future series because it did seem to help de-stress the contestants so they aren’t just constantly thinking about the game

I loved this too and recommend anyone who hasn’t watched to avoid spoilers and enjoy the ride. High production values, well edited. Yes, it did stretch things out a bit in each one hour episode, but I rather enjoyed the music/montages and beautiful scenery.
I think as it was mostly new to UK audiences (albeit combining some familiar gameshow/reality elements), it will be difficult to have the same thrill if (as I’d hope) there is a series 2. I did think of Anne Robinson when they voted someone out as the weakest link/traitor at the Round Table, but Claudia was the perfect host.
Audiences surprisingly low (2.9m overnights but even top shows only get 5-8m these days), but rising to 5m on iPlayer I believe mostly due to word of mouth. Great critics reviews (but don’t read them as give away everything) too.

Very similar to Traitors although I didn’t find it quite as compelling (probably because it didn’t feel quite as familiar and the host is a bit bland). The challenges are bigger and more elaborate but I think they miss a trick in ‘selling’ Australia as a destination. Quite apart from that there’s a very handsome firefighter called Jacob who I could look at for days, and a very impressive Thor lookalike called Will who jumps around in a vest and booty shorts a fair bit so… yeah 😃 |
