That is the problem with the criminal justice system, it sounds tough but is anything but that, when no one is looking the perpetrator gets released from their lenient sentence early, the media do nothing to mitigate this as they know a custodial sentence is expensive to implement , so it is absolute laughable that a judge sentences someone with a reasonable sentence for each crime then says ‘it is to be served concurrently’ or someone gets life then then told they must serve 12 years or such, life should be that and the press should mot use the term “life” unless it is a whole life sentence, if a judge sentences to so many *?) years the press should report how much they get in custody. If a judge sentences concurrently the press should report the average for each crime.
What is this early release for good behaviour? They should get extended sentence for bad behaviour instead?
Mind you the justice system got caught out over John Warboys. Mind you the black taxi services the establishment, which the government, justice system, media are along with the church.

How sad and what can you say that hasn’t already being said, it does mean people connected to the two dead victims’ are going to have an awful Christmas and long after —because of someone’s warped believes.
Like everyone, I have not an ounce of sympathy for this scumbag, but he just fired the gun, that others have loaded, the attack maybe ‘lone wolf’, but the development wasn’t so in the way the perpetrator is vulnerable, as ultimately the person has been indoctrinated with sinister believes that they going to have an awesome afterlife, if the person randomly killed as many people as possible, oh hello, smell the coffee. No matter what religion it is a pernicious man creation that people are promised a better life after death and today blood has been spilled because of it, like it has for thousands of year.
You need to also also get hold of the filth peddling armourers and put these wicked people on trial and face justice.
Sadly it will just radicalise more people against Muslims, which mostly are decent people and will be horrified by this.

The Met received the call at 13:58, I was on London Bridge Station at 14:10, just in time to catch my train home before trains got suspended.

Nah it’s doable. If it finishes at 5,20 you could get either the 5.38 or the 6.18 to Sheffield. The 6.18 is into Sheff at 7.08 so is still doable although doesn’t allow much time for delays. Most important tis the Manchester Football Clubs not playing that day, so that is BIG one hassle eliminated.
You reckon I can get for the REX to Picc in 18 minutes?

I am clearly in the minority, but Hamilton wouldn’t make it in the room where it happens.

This time of the year, you start seeing the ubiquitous lists in the shrinking reviews section and this year being the end of the decade I expect to see best musical of the decade, however being the ardent fans we are, So what are your top 10 musicals from this decade?

So what are your top 10 plays from this decade?

I have given it a reasonable listen and it is alright.
Certainly agree it has no presenter and the playlist seems to be a bit static, which seems to be mainly from the popular shows. Oddly I have heard a bit on there from Little Shop of Horrors, A fun to do and that is how many songs in a row you can name, bet you will get a few.
However I am a big fan of the Elaine Paige Show which I listen to the same episode several times (do a lot of commuting, show attending and cycling), which I would say is much better as the BBC have the resources to invest in a great show, you get more niche songs from niche shows and great research, where the producer Jessica Rickson does sterling work and also you have Elaine’s infectious laugh.

Coffee

I would say making your own coffee at home with all these fandango machines with bells and whistles is going to be cheaper than a shop bought coffee. But the coffee from a shop is far superior than home brew, for no other reasons their beans are fresher and the machines have better pressure to froth milk.
Even though shop bought coffee is seen to be a luxury by most. However you can keep the cost down, for example in my preferred coffee outlet (others are available) Caffè Nero, if you collect the stamps you get one stamp for every coffee you buy, take your own cup and you get an extra stamp, pay with their app and you get a plethora of free stamps to entice you to use the app and every time you make a purchase to the app for the holidays - you get a Christmas Cracker that may contain an awful joke to bonus stamps between 1 and 9 stamps, this doesn’t seem to be random and is controlled by an algorithm to peg you back to an average of 1-2 stamps per purchase. But the first 2 crackers I pulledI got 2 free coffees, then the next couple a pair of rotten jokes and then bonus stamps for the couple being 1 stamp, then 3 stamps, then a couple more terrible jokes and so on.
So that luxury cappuccino still maybe a luxury but instead of paying £3.05 with all the stamps you pay about £2.

Thought this would aim for a main West End house.
‘Sleepless in Wembley’ doesn’t have the same ring.

When I saw this I didn’t think I would like this and I was right.........I absolutely adored it.
Not many venues, I hope they add. Few more and come back inside the M25.

Two intervals is annoying - is there any reason for this? I get bored in intervals as it is, having to kill time on my phone for 20 minutes, let alone two of them! To move bits of set. It's written in three acts and so each act has its own design. Although the set doesent change that much. I found the intervals annoying but I loved everything else The thing with the Menier they only have 15 minute intervals, by the time you spent 8 minutes filing out and another 7 minutes getting back in, I start to wonder why did I bother.

Went last night.
In all a very nice venue, done to a high spec, good sightlines as the theatre was in a horseshoe formation.
Nice to see a new venue that is not above a pub or railway arch.
Wish them well and look forward to see the effect.

It took for them to announce their demise in this very thread for me to hear of them. Maybe a clue there, why they didn’t make it.
Or could it be they were known under a different name?

Does the criteria require some contribution to the Society of London Theatre (and SWET before that)? I assume as the NT productions are considered for Olivier Awards they are considered West End, with smaller venues like the Other Palace, Boulevard, Soho, Turbine etc being classes as Off-West End. It was always much clearer with the paper West-End Theatre guides (which always included the NT and Old Vic). I think the Lyttelton and Olivier are eligible but not the Dorfman. The Donmar despite being located in Central London I'm unsure if it's part of SOLT or not. Collaborators & The Curious..............in the Nighttime won the Olivier, whilst The Flick, This House and People, Place & Things recently played the Dorfman. City of Angels won the Oliver whilst One Night in Miami........., The Night Alive, My Night with Reg all got nominated at the Donmar. As I said it easier to judge a length of string than define a West End theatre.

I’m at the Kitchen/Burgerworks right now having lunch. A very nice vegan tofu salad, in a proper china bowl, with knife and fork from the same cutlery stand that’s always been there. www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/sites/default/files/burgerworks_menu.pdfMenu certainly changed since last time I went. On a side note, like the Burgerworks, the canteen at work has gone the same way, which is run by the awful company Soxedo, their meals either consist of burgers, wraps or baguettes now, rather than wholesome meals they used to do. The profit margins seem to be higher with bread based dishes, so is the sugar, there is equivalent of 22 teaspoons of sugar in a baguette. No good at tackling the national obesity crisis and my diabetes, also being a non meat eater makes it tricky, but hey the profits are much better.

Cheek! And No. But yes, all West End theatres, multiple times, not always just for public performances either (you've no idea how kind the West End can be). What is your favourite TM? The other being when you are busy with your tape measure in the stalls!!!

They’re are a member of SOLT though.
it is easier to answer the length of a piece of string, than define a West End theatre!
Broadway theatre is much easier that being over 499 seats and a member of the Broadway League.

The Old Vic is also classified as a West End theatre, isn't it (despite its Waterloo location)? It certainly used to be, before Spacey took it over. I remember seeing Life x 3 there with Mark Rylance and Imelda Staunton. It wasn't on the Wikipedia list but, yes, I don't see why it shouldn't be really... Victoria is hardly 'west end' either. The National is also a West End theatre. Cannot remember if The Other Palace or Bridge are? Could be the new Boulevard theatre is?

Good going. Someone must have been to them ALL. TheatreMonkey? No, I have been to them all as well, I have also been some many times. Only been to the Lyric, Fortune and St Martin once for obvious reasons. Also been to every Broadway theatre and some of them many times.

Got excited this morning as there's adverts on the giant electronic boards in Manchester for the album. I thought it was advertising a return to Manchester but it's just promoting the cast CD. A few of us up here, Burlybear included were a bit miffed it's labelled original London cast, not Manchester! That wouldn’t work, the accent would be too strong.

Haven’t heard the cast recording, but unfortunately saw the show tonight, at the Shaftesbury Theatre which seems to be synonymous with jukebox musicals, or could that be the graveyard for the genre.
Even though you don’t need to know Shakespeare it helps, but really the music left me totally unengaged and cold, seems to be aimed at the snapchat generation, being over 40 this has sadly passed me by. However the show was performed with great energy and the lead Miriam-Teak Lee should be nominated for a Oliver and she had a good supporting cast. This show was a lot better than the former show Motown, which is one of the worst shows I have seen. The book was mildly amusing but wasn’t as good as Mamma Mia or as smart as Jersey Boys. The book was better that Bat Out of Hell, but that show was leagues better, as was We Will Rock You, which also had a poor book.
The show sadly didn’t work for me

No it’s just named after someone who seems to be dissolute, like his great grandfather who was also Prince Edward.
