Firstly, thanks for all the replies above.
So Glyndebourne is like Chichester summer programme then? I am a massive fan of co-productions, as can lead to better production values, more stable work for actors and the sets are more environmentally friendly, nothing I find abhorrent than a set in a skip after playing tens of performances, hence why I started this thread.

You're allowed to LOVE Grace, she seems like a lovely person which I'm sure attracts a lot of fans and rightfully so she is a great role model for young girls, but that doesn't mean she is an 'amazing' or 'phenomenal' performer. I have posted my thoughts on the 4 performances I've seen of hers elsewhere in this thread, so no need to drag the girl again. She clearly has talent or she wouldn't keep getting cast. But I have yet to see a performance where that has all come together in her favour and created a truly memorable moment for her. Now this may be because she is constantly an understudy and plays various roles on different nights, (which I am sure is VERY difficult, so props to her for being able to pull that off) but I have never seen her 'own' a role like most other understudies I have seen in other shows and she is certainly not the best understudy in the Six crew. The most popular maybe, but by no means the best performer. She is young and well on the way to a wonderful career in the theatre and I'm sure one day she will in fact be 'amazing' or even 'phenominal', but she certainly isn't there just yet. I don't know.I just don't see the point of tearing down a performer on a forum like this. As you say - she is young...how would you feel about her reading this? I understand this forum is opinion based and everyone is entitled to say what they want about a given performer, but i would never want to be the person to make another feel bad. I just wouldn't post about someone at all if I didn't like him/her/they. I absolutely agree that social media shouldn’t be used to single out and call out individuals, especially if their name isn’t being used to market a production. I have seen some dreadful performances, but you won’t read them on here, as I keep it to myself. It is fair to have an opinion on someone that is starring and their name is being used as a draw, as are the creatives. They are happy to accept praise from critics and awards, so should therefore accept criticism. But your average run of the mill actor never.

Yes, so many serious shows on Broadway right now lol: Beetlejuice, Tootsie, Mean Girls, Aladdin, Book of Mormon, Freestyle Love supreme, Moulin Rouge. What does a person just wanting a brainless night out do? 'brainless' is the correct answer.

So over a month, since the launch and people are maybe getting bored at home, with all that turkey and tinsel, so maybe a couple of you may have dabbled with this new station, so who is listening?
I have given it a good listening and did listen to this station driving into work today, it was a god send during the election, which talk based radio station became unbearable. So what do I actually think? Well it is great having another option, BUT it does also feel like their playlist is still limited, you know those television adverts where you get the best musicals ever CD box set, well it feels the playlist is limited to that, the playlist has no depth like my beloved Elaine Paige Show for example you had 'Ik Lach Om Zwaartekratch,' which to you is Defying Gravity in Dutch sung by Willemijn Verkaik or maybe 'It Not About Me' from the Broadway musical The Prom and both recently played on EP. Maybe in future they will be played, when more songs are added.
I quite like the idea of having no presenter, no real adverts and no news as It allows more to be played.

I know nothing of the genre of Opera and Ballet.
But I am enjoying the documentary dancing the Nutcracker on the BBC and what makes a great sugar plum fairy.
So Operas and Ballets have a very limited season of less than 50 performance? So to have a new set and costumes for each production would be expensive? So do the opera/ballet organisations put costumes/sets in storage and use them again? Would organisations exchange sets, for example ROH and Glynebourne?

Loved Gavin and Stacey. What clever writers they are. And the kid, Neil the baby! On twitter it says he is the same kid as the baby was. Can this be true. Anyway, a little star. Loved Gavin and Stacey, on paper this should never work, strong welsh and Essex characters and their idiosyncratic behaviour, but it does a treat. After watching this today after watching the originals, I never knew that all the surnames were named after serial killers, go figure!

For a limited run, you are contracted to play for the whole run, without leave, bar illness.
Only in open runs, do people get leave.

I questioned the Donmar earlier this year about it. The council approved them not permitting audiences to go that way. The reason is that they can't afford security to police the exit door and prevent anyone getting in. The rule is that provided the door can be used in an actual emergency - i.e. that it is unlocked and the passage to it is clear, then yes, they can prevent you using it provided they have council approval. Interesting bit of sleuth monkey. What is cool with what you found out and shared with us, is that the Donmar comes under Camden Council, I wonder if Westminster is different bylaws? Where most West End theatres fall under.

Menier v slow to exit with v narrow corridor. I think there is an emergency exit on the other side. Interesting I was sitting next to Tom Stoppard in the Menier for his play Travesties and he used that emergency unchallenged. So now I use that emergency exit, if it is good enough for Tom then it is goo enough for me. if I got a train on, I am going to do it.

Happy Holidays everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful time however you spend this time of year. I agree happy holidays everyone. If the little baby Jesus was born today, he would be surrounded by organic coffee, freshly prepared sandwiches, subs, salads and freshly baked pastries. He would be born in a Pret A Manger.

Years ago I remember reading in programmes in very small print, on the bottom of a page hidden under who is employed in the company and theatre that;
- The safety curtain must be raised and lowered in front of the audience.
- That aisles ways must be kept clear.
- That the audience can use any exit.
So wondering after a trip to the Bridge Theatre today and if you are unlucky to be near the stage, it is awful to get out of that venue, however there is a side exit, but blocked by an usher saying “you are not permitted to use the route,” despite it being marked exit.
Same with Donmar Warehouse that has an additional stairway that takes you to the street, but have seen this also blocked by an usher.
So the conventional exit can lead to an extra 5-10 minutes to get out, which is significant to me, as my train runs every 30 minutes and I hate just missing one.
So is this bylaw still in force? Can a attendant stop you from using an exit?

I still say watch it in sequential order, but do agree the first 3 are the best, with Empire Strikes Back Being the best and roque 1 is the best of the new films, which is basically what everyone on here are saying. Least if you watch them is sequence you have the best to come.
On a side note American films are quite notorious at not having American actors as the villains, apart from Adam Driver who is marvellous in this, it proves the point near perfect I this?

There Lynette I thought you might charm in with old plays that have been adapted “a new version by.”, as I have heard you mention it before.
I agree with you and think that it is both an aberration and vandalism.

We know what you love in theatre, but what are your pet hates?
Here are mine;
Shows that get their advertised running time wrong.
Going to the Theatre wet, as I was caught in the rain yesterday and was in the Royal Court soaked.
People who leave during the show.
People who get their mobile phones out.
Gender neutral toilets.
Shows late start late, when I ma on time.
Shows that start on time, when I am a couple of minutes late.

I adore Star Wars. But a great thing about being innocent like Mark, you can watch them in the proper linear sequence, which is a awesome thing to do. BTW. I generally hate sci-fi. I've been told I should watch 4/5/6 before 1/2/3. Is that right 4/5/6 are the best ones.
But I would watch them in sequence. see what others think?

I've never seen a Star Wars movie (I know.. I know), but was always a fan of the Star Tours ride at Disney. I went to the new Star Wars land last week in California and was a bit clueless about it all, so I've made it my mission to watch all of the movies now that they're all released. I adore Star Wars. But a great thing about being innocent like Mark, you can watch them in the proper linear sequence, which is a awesome thing to do. BTW. I generally hate sci-fi.

Taken from the Union Theatre thread and Whistle Down the Wind is playing there this Christmas, but not the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Jim Steinman’s version. So nearly 10 years now since the Andrew Lloyd Webber version toured, so it is about time to have another tour me think?
I like to see this show again.

I unexpectedly saw this yesterday afternoon, when I had a matinee slot become vacant at the last minute because I couldn't get to Alexandra Palace as the trains were screwed, though I had inteneded to see it at some point in the next few weeks. I really enjoyed it. Jason Manford was a lot better than I was expecting. I'm sure we've all seen a fair few stunt cast celebrities in musicals who can just about hold a tune but I thought his voice was pretty good, with tone & depth. I was pleased to avoid Ore Oduba, who I'm not very keen on as a presenter & have no desire to see in a musical. I thought Andy Coxon was really good & while I'd like to see the show again I'd only want to do so when he was in it, so I'm eyeing up Leicester in March which is advertised as Oduba-less! Almost all the rest of the leads, indeed the majority of the cast, I've previously seen in other shows & they all came up to expectations. I was decidedly hacked off that Alan Burkitt's character got shot during his dance solo, as I think he's a terrific dancer & wanted it to go on for longer! This is the sixth show I've seen Samuel Holmes in & he's pretty much played the same character in all of them, but he does it extremely entertainingly! Can you elaborate please on the dance solo? Who does the dance solo and what part of the show it is in please?

Thanks that is the one and in deed you wouldn’t want to go there by public transport, lucky the car park is large.
Been there once and I thought the production values were not the best, the cast seemed to be ones you would see above a pub, obviously I could be completely wrong on that and others shows could be much better.

Secondly, it puts all the power in hands of the party machines - it immediately removes the ability of the vote to vote for a particular candidate. You can only vote for a party and so the party gets to decide who is where on the list and who gets to be your representative. If a member resigns, you don't get a by-election, the party managers just appoint the next person down on the list. If there is a MP who underperforms, you can't vote against them personally next time round - you can only vote against their party. This isn't the case in "true STV". For example, if you are in a constituency which has 4 MPs, there would be up to 4 candidates from each party. So you can vote for Labour Linda and Conservative Catherine as options 1 and 2, but choose not to give any preference to Conservative Colin or Labour Larry. You can vote for one Women's Equality Party candidate and give the rest of your preferences to a more mainstream party. You could choose between a Eurosceptic candidate or a Europhile one from the same party. It actually reduces party power - right now you can only vote for the single candidate the party selects, so if you end up with (e.g.) Kate Hoey or Jared O'Mara, you're stuck with them. True STV actually lets you select between candidates of the same party, and if there's a by-election, there is a proper by-election between one candidate from each party to fill the gap. What you're describing is the Party List system, which I'm vehemently opposed to for exactly the reasons you state. That is completely bogus. 100% Linda would be a Conservative

The stone hard fact is that the type of voting system isn’t going to change in the next. 5 years, this government will run its full course. They will take us out of EU and if the economy does well, they will be re-elected, on the ticket that ‘the bloke with messy hair took us out of the EU and against the odds maintained a strong and stable economy.’
Other than that it would be open season.
Labour needs someone that is not tarnished by anti-semitism and move away from this toxic momentum group and then endorse the best parts of both new and old labour and have a oven ready manifesto for the 2024 election. Where Europe maybe ancient history or.

The Liberals had a shocking election, Jo Swinson campaign was worse than Theresa Mays. I had no clue what their message was. Jeremy Corbyn was a necessary evil, labour had to go through as I said in an earlier post new labour came toxic in 2008, with the crash and Iraq. Maybe they can elect a leader halfway between Corbyn and Blair. That will appeal to the public. Okay Brexit won’t be an issue at the next election, if the economy does well then no ones is going to stick that in their manifesto. Labour doesn’t have to convince voters on Brexit or Jeremy Corbyn, 2 big albatrosses removed. Unless Boris doesn’t deliver on Brexit, that will be fatal for him. The economy tanks, worse than Europe, an argument can be had for another referendum. Right wing press will do a number on every Labour leader, that one isn't going away. I kind of agree, but they report the bile they receive from 55 Tufton Street. Their funding is less than transparent.

What happened last night was probably what people thought should have happened in 2017. The Labour Party has a long way back having been wiped out in a lot of areas. There are some seats that they will win back but with the SNP having a strong hold in Scotland and parties not contesting the 18 or so NI seats. Labour will be hard pressed to win well over 300 seats in England and Wales alone. People calling for JC to resign immediately doesn't make sense as with their Deputy Leader having stood down to leave the Party totally leaderless with an un elected interim put in place would make matters worse. I don't see how JC can stay on for any length but let the party take stock over Xmas and New Year and then hold a spring leadership election to fill the two top jobs. The Party may have moved so far to the left that their rump doesn't want to go back to the more centrist left ground and after they have suffered big election defeats the remainder of any party tends to be the more hardcore element. Hopefully Brexit can now be delivered and we have a broad One Nation Conservative Government who can take us forward. There will be calls for another Scottish Referendum but the way Sturgeon and co did all they could to block Brexit I don't see Boris allowing them another vote any time soon. I was sad to see Dennis Skinner lose his seat after 49 years as although my politics are very different from his, I respected him for his principles and he was hugely entertaining to watch in Parliament. Jo Swinson losing her seat was funny and I'm not making any further Jungle jokes but their is a rumour that she and Anna Soubry are trying to get a last minute panto gig as the Ugly Sisters in a production of Cinderella. Wow, that last paragraph is out and out nasty. As Boris Johnston said that if the Conservative Party doesn’t leave the EU, the Brexit vote will be split between the Tories and the Brexit party and Labour will win the general election. The exact opposite happened yesterday, with the remain vote split between Labour and the Libs, with the Conservatives. Coming straight through the middle and victorious.
