I’m curious to know if anybody here saw Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman et al. in 1986, and, if so, what did you think of that original cast?

Six, Jamie, Joseph, Amelie, Les Misérables. None of those shows had performances tonight. My mistake! Still getting my head ‘round the new schedules!

So apart from Heathers (which is sold out) are there any other shows on tonight? Six, Jamie, Joseph, Amelie, Les Misérables.

I hope this transfers, as personal circumstances mean a trip to Chichester, lovely as it would be, is out of the question right now, and I'd rather see it in a theatre than streamed. South Pacific is the weak link for me in the R&H cannon, but it's also the only one of the big shows I've not seen on stage, and I'd like to give it a proper chance. I've always felt like the score had a lot of semi-filler (songs like There is Nothing Like a Dame, Bloody Mary and I'm Gonna Wash That Man... don't really do it for me, and seem to exist purely to have show-piece numbers to cover the fact there's not much plot there.) I also find the score lacks any truly spine-tingling moments. I know Some Enchanted Evening is a classic but to me it's nowhere near the likes of If I Loved You, Something Wonderful, Edelweiss and others. But maybe if I saw a really great production on stage I'd be won over! A really great production and the “You’ve Got To Be Carefully Taught/This Nearly Was Mine” sequence should be sufficient to win you over.

Can anyone PM me if they discover any clips of her singing in today's show? Likewise!

and can anyone remember exactly where tthe two rogue songs, 'Silly People', and 'My husband the pig' fitted in. The NT's 1995 used the pig, didn't they, but this version at the Leeds Playhouse is so seamless, I can't imagine these songs having a place. In Praise of Women segued into My Husband The Pig in the National Theatre production. It gave the two opposing views of Carl-Magnus and Charlotte. I’m less clear on Silly People, but I believe Frid sang it at the top of Act II (please correct me if I’m wrong!)

First night last night and it was glorious. It was great to be back in that big space seeing a big musical - cast of 30. Julian Ovenden did a speech at the end talking about what a tough time it has been, everyone was very emotional. They also gave 150 tickets to NHS staff too, which got a massive round of applause. As Julian said - Theatre in Chichester is back! Thanks, Frosty. Would you be able to list the orchestra, please?

New London cast photo. They've given Lucy a wig more appropriate for her hair type which is nice. Costumes seem to be a mix of the new UK Tour and the original production. It's also changed names...they've dropped 'the', now just 'phantom of the opera' which to me doesn't make much sense. They’ve been doing that for years, mainly when it’s prefixed by “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s...”

Magic Goes Wrong would be on the hunt for a new home, though that could easily move to the Criterion, given Mischief’s previous success there with Bank Robbery. Pride and Prejudice (Sort Of) opens at the Criterion for an open-ended run straight after Amélie. You’re right - knew I was forgetting something!

Surely it’s The Vaudeville, given that The Last Five Years has just rescheduled to the Garrick?
Constellations closes Sep 12th, so it works timing-wise.

Lucy St. Louis just posted this on her Instagram, regarding finishing her first week of rehearsals for Phantom. Not sure if this was taken from inside HMT, but I'm sure everyone will notice the chandelier at the top. http://instagr.am/p/CQVtQdZHTax That photo was taken at the Gielgud Theatre.

Zach stands at the back of the auditorium in the Bennett production, but this production may have them positioned elsewhere.
How much of the choreography Zach does also depends on how good a dancer is cast. If it’s star cast, Larry normally covers everything, but in the case of John Partridge, he did the opening combo etc. himself.

Bochum is the German version of Newport.
Never understood why the theatre is such a challenge to get to from the train station. It’s a show about trains? Why not a train between the main station and the Starlight Theatre before and after shows? An onsite train station would be great.
In any event, I guess it hasn’t hurt it all these years...
Hot dogs are nice in the foyer...

Please define “improvement...” I'm not a Patinkin fan and I was one of the few who saw him in Paradise Found. Also saw him in concert which was one of the most bizarre concerts ever. I see! Fair enough. His voice and performance style are quite an acquired taste I guess...!

I've got this on Apple music but it says released 2015. Is this the same one or is there a more recent version? Same version, alece10. It was originally released to mark the show’s 40th anniversary in 2015.

One of the presents Father Christmas very kindly left under my tree was the "40th anniversary celebration newly remastered original cast recording." "This definitive, remastered new edition is taken from the surround sound remix and features eight bonus tracks that - for the first time - allow the listener to eavesdrop on the creative process of composer Marvin Hamlisch and lyricist Edward Kleban." Bonus tracks: It's all in here I can do that At the ballet Sing! Joanne Shoes One Finale ballad (What I did for love) Oh do enjoy, TallPaul. It’s a wonderful remastering, and the bonus tracks are sublime. In fact, I listen to “It’s All In Here” more often than the rest of the actual score. I wish more of it had made it in. It’s beautiful and melancholic as performed by Kleban and Hamlisch, too.

I was recently looking through old theatre posters on eBay (inspired by the other thread here), and came across a poster for the SECOND West End production of Song & Dance in 1989 at the Shaftesbury, featuring original stars Marti Webb and Wayne Sleep.
I had no idea that this had happened, perhaps somebody here could shed some light on it please?
Was it simply a limited-run return at the end of the tour?

Let’s be clear. A sit-down is a (usually) open-ended production planned for one theatre at one time.
A long tour stop is not a sit-down. An out-of-town is not a sit-down.
Just thought it would be helpful to clear that up.
