Going through Antwerp last week past the massive arena there, suddenly saw "Lord of the Rings in Concert"!! When I returned home and checked on their web site - it was the film accompanied by an orchestra - Will if never come back? ?

Its not a Disney show thank goodness (although I do like Disney). It is totally different with the same characters involved but the story is set in New York (sort of). The caterpillar is smoking "something"? The Cheshire Cat hangs out with a latino gang, the White Knight and followers are a "boy band" and the Mad Hatter is a lady trying to overthrow the Queen of Hearts. Sounds weird but I think it works well, with good sets and costumes (if this production is having the same) really looking forward to see it again. I think kids (older ones not little Disney fans) will enjoy it but they should go not expecting Disney.

Great idea Phantom!! Thank you. Very hard to keep up with it all and the "musicaltheatrenews" site never seems to update very much. Great to see the Hall for Cornwall doing so well for tours. Torquay should be blown up and rebuilt as a decent venue. Plymouth Theatre Royal very quiet on the tours, now its not like it used to be, when I worked there part time. The Bristol Hippo is a great theatre if you sit in the stalls and has great staff in the box office. Please keep up the good work!

Love, love the show and really hoping they can get a tour up - this needs to be seen by the masses!! Even though I am in Cornwall, I have talked about a dozen folk to go and see the production and all have loved it. How about Dress Circle getting in touch with the producers for a cast album? They did some of their own label CD's before?? May ease the cost and D/C could promote it??

Yes Monkey, your right about the storm and the Bounty - was impressive back then. Am I right in thinking the set for Metropolis was by Ultz or a single name like that? I'm sure the London cast is still on sale on Amazon. As for King, there was a giant tree one side of the stage and the boughs went over the proscenium arch. Also they kept flying in at an angle flats with actors on, as well as the road that split for the KKK. How could 2 opera singers agree to be signed up for that?? Which Which was another goody of the times! Act one ended (I think)with the witches coven. The stage split open to reveal a giant devil, as you said witches flew from the boxes, dress circle and up from the stage - very impressive. Starred Graham Bickley. Also in the cast were Gay Soper, Stig Rossen, Issy Van Randwyck. They imported a rock star from Norway to play the executioner and then lots of Scandinavians came over to see the show. Also don't forget Moby Dick, which was just a good laugh nothing serious but was panned by the critics - touch of St Trinians at a gallop!!

That was I think Judy Kuhn's debut in the West End. Lots of great shows around that time, usually with great sets as well. I saw Mutiny, very clever set of the Bounty which came up from under the stage, down from the tower and formed the whole ship. IF my mind remembers it correctly the side of the Bounty could slide down to reveal the inside of the ship. Probably took most of the budget and why they couldn't get Sinitta any bra!! Also saw King around that time as well but not a long runner.

Great show and some great songs as you are saying. Excellent cast Brian Blessed giving a master class on shouting! Graham Bickley, Judy Kuhn, Paul Keown, Jonathan Adams, Stifyn Parri, Opened in 1989. I took 3 groups to see it during the run and back in the days when we had some really fantastic sets. Last time I saw it was the last day and they were videoing it - oh to have a copy!!

Do you think they would consider a tour of the show? Let the natives in the sticks see what a fantastic show they are missing? How about a cd as well??

Well I have just cancelled my group to Bristol because of this. We all think a musical is an orchestra and actors not a mish mash as he keeps rolling out. I love Chess but was really what killed our groups seeing this actor/musician show, it is so oft putting. I know a lot of you love this that's fine but it is not a musical in the proper sense of the word. Sorry guys!

I too have been offered free tickets to previews, this is for me along with other group bookers to decide if the show is for your groups. They may be free but I have to pay for the train fare up from Cornwall, a night in a Travelodge (NOT cheap) and return home next day. When I bring a group I also pay for my ticket to see the show again.
Also while on the Charing Cross site. Would the producers consider a live recording of the show or even a tour of the UK??

Saw the matinee on the 8th and loved the show. I thought Natasha J Barnes did a sterling job of bringing Fanny to life. Would have loved to have seen Sheridan, but no reason to not see the show because of a cover. The theatre looked full and a full standing ovation at the end for her and the cast. Lets hope Sheridan gets back to full strength in another show to give her talents an airing. Interesting to see how Natasha goes on and what shows she may pick next.

After falling in love with the score after the Broadway production in '97, I thought it would come to the West End but no! Couldn't get to see it at Southwark but made sure of getting to see the show at long last. Found the Theatre quite easily and it is amazing place seeing as where it is placed. Pity it is not on the usual "visitors looking for a show" route. We had Premium Stalls (row G)for £39.50 plus a drink and a programme, not bad for that price!! Wish a few other theatres would think on that! There are always the pros and cons for a show but I thought the cast did a marvellous job in covering all the roles. The set worked well in a small area to much effect. Plus top marks to the orchestra - all seven of them for the full sound they gave out. Others may not enjoy it and that is their choice, but to make the journey to come up from Cornwall to see the show was 100% worth it and I hope I may be able to enjoy it again before it finishes. Look forward to Ragtime & Death takes a holiday as well.

I was told that they already have a theatre selected for Wind in the Willows. After the mini tour it was going into the west end but couldn't get the theatre name out of them!

Back in the Dark Ages a guy call Bernard J Taylor did quite a few of new musical with lots of West End names. Think he was trying to do a Frank Wildhorn first!! I think in the end they went out to Am Dram. I will probably be told they are wrong but here goes -
Pride and Predudice - well they went in and out of London? Success - A sort of Dr Faustus, song writer selling his soul but cant remember if set in London or NYC IF we could prove Heathcliff lived in London as well, He did Wuthering Heights (Dave Willetts & Lesley Garrett) also there is Cliff Richard's version??
Joan of Kent (The BR Musical) was the fight about the route of the tunnel to and from London. By Henry Lewis and I think reading some where they did a performance to raise money??
