It was a mad idea in the first place but the rumours of it being cancelled literally as they were loading into the theatre are correct, that's very poor behaviour.

This has "buying a £60 ticket now only to be sent a Today Tix exclusive £15 offer later" written all over it so I'll hold off, even though it looks fun.

Today Tix have a 24hour sale for this Another irritating example of me buying early (£60) instead of waiting for the inevitable discount (£15) a month later.

I had assumed this would be the 'best/campest bits' with some other party filler (a bit like the Mamma Mia one) but perhaps they are doing the full show. In which case, how will the more serious parts of the show land? The play was performed so broadly on recent tours that audiences just kept on laughing even through the darker scenes featuring nasty homophobic slurs. I wonder if they've considered how a drunk, dancing 'party' audience will respond to that sort of thing?

The cast is announced for this, pleasantly surprised to see it includes Trevor Ashley. Still too pricey for me though!

I am trying to find out more about this company, which seemed to be enormous in Germany in the 80s-90s (they built several theatres to house big musical transfers and co-produced a few big London shows including the premiere of Beauty & the Beast) but then seem to just vanish. Does anyone know anything about them? Did they become part of a larger company or change their name perhaps?

I haven't seen Sister Act since the original previews at the Palladium and I haven't really kept up with all the tours since. If I go to see the new production in the West End is it likely to be comparable in terms of production values, or is it a more basic touring set etc? You should treat yourself as it is a whole new (and much improved) show since it's Palladium premiere. This version is in many ways identical to the Broadway version (which bore only scant similarity to that Palladium production) and set-wise, will likely be similar to the one used for the Hammersmith Eventim Apollo a couple of years back. And Beverly really brings it. She is a very good actress who sings the daylights out of the score. Thanks, I do have fond memories of that original production (with Patina Miller) so I've always been hesitant to see anything that might be sub-par, but it sounds like this is decent and I am impressed by the cast they have gathered.

Isn't there also an issue in that the longer a that's is seen to be failing, the less likely the top writers and actors are going to want to be associated with it? For example, how on earth is Hampstead supposed to attract great writers from around the world who would look at this report and want nothing to do with the place?

I also have "When the British Musical Ruled the World" on my pile to read. At the end of last year I read the Fosse biography by Sam Watson which was a bit of a brick but really good with some hilarious stories. Still to read: I've got Judi Dench's Shakespeare book (signed copy, dear), "Out for Blood" about the flop Carrie musical, and also "I was Better Last Night" by Harvey Weinstein which I'm looking forward to. Wrong Harvey! Yikes!! Corrected.

On paper it was probably an attractive gig right? Fun story, good co-star, a tryout close to home then a run in the West End? Sounds like a good job to me. Maybe she signed up before the script was finished...

The cast recording mysteriously vanished from Spotify etc, and there was a new workshop in NYC last year, so I assume it had some heavy rewrites.

Sorry to disappoint but there isn't a song at the end of each episode.
It all felt a little bit faker than her old cruising show.. Lots of 'accidentally' bumping into people in the queue that she then spends the day with, the very blatant Jet2 mentions all the time...

I am on a couple of Punchdrunk Facebook groups and the major fans there have dug out a job description posted for a new project due to start in the summer, starting in London (presumably at their base in Woolwich) before touring internationally.
