In ALW’s Interview onstage at the Gillian yesterday, he mentioned that another MAJOR musical will not be opening on time any longer, which again is terribly upsetting for the whole industry.
Only time will tell which show that is. I have a feeling the press release is imminent.

I was just referring to the announcement being made about Jamie pausing its run and what this would mean theatre-wise for Six! Apollo is probably looking more likely for Six now, as I’ve heard that the crew at Six don’t think it’s moving to the Vaudeville any longer. We shall see soon!

I took a visit to Belleville and overall really enjoyed my time seeing the show!
In my opinion, the album perhaps doesn’t do the show justice, and in person, the shows does work well. However, Act 2 (after the Ball scenes) did feel a lot more clunky compared to Act One.
It’s a real, real shame that much of this show’s music is tracked with sampled instruments. It loses a tiny bit of the sense of a real piece by having so many automated moments of music, with numerous vamps having to be timed to perfection whilst a sampled drum plays in the background! With my musical ear, it baffles me a little that some woodwind solo instruments were sampled (an oboe melody) and others were playbacks of what seemed like an actual recording of an instrument (a bassoon melody in Act 2). I hope there is a genuine reason why a full live band is not used! I hope this isn’t the future for many new shows!!
I really enjoyed the overall design of the show, from props, to costumes, to sets and lighting. I did feel like the sound design took a bit getting used to as I believe the principals have trackers that mean sound levels change on every speaker depending where they are on stage. The ball scene was hindered by this a little, as I felt during ‘I Know I Have a Heart’, when Carrie faced the back of the stage the sound went away a little and wasn’t balanced to give a clear sound. What did others think of this technology?
The special “surprise” was effective. The transformation was ok, but definitely not on par with other versions of Cinderella.
I felt the story was very clear throughout and made complete sense. The twist with Prince Charming felt as if the story had been updated for our times, and I don’t think the use of bad language was too bad at all!
Massive congratulations to Kate Ivory Jordan for her debut tonight as Adele! She was fab! Michael Hamway was also on for Prince Sebastian and he blew me away with ‘Only You, Lonely You’!
A great night overall, but definitely room for improvement!

Expect some wiggling/moving to be done on shows that are currently selling/advertised as running come Autumn! Can you give us any hints about this new venue?

Perhaps a new song is being released soon?
A title ‘Marry For Love’ has appeared for the penultimate track of the show on iTunes!

It's true. I know someone from the management side who is attached. Is it going into town or out on tour?

Carrie says she's never seen a show that is so immersive. And there are carts on tracks...with wheels that spin! The Gillian Lynne looks gorgeous with its new seats. If it’s in the round (circular) have all the seats been taken out at the front? Are they on sale? Surely the stage can’t move out? The cats seats move and stage comes out? Hmmmmmm! Thinking. I need to see seating and stage plans for this From my understanding, the first few rows and the stage are on a giant revolve! I’m guessing that during the show, this giant revolve moves around 180° so effectively the first few rows are at the back of the stage looking into the auditorium, and the stage is where the seats were!

It looks a bit like the folding scenery for The Comedy About A Bank Robbery. In that case it was necessary due to the Criterion having limited wing space & no fly tower. I wouldn't have thought the Gillian Lynne Theatre would have similar space constraints. Surprisingly, the stage is actually quite a small and awkward shape, with a lack of real wing space, hence why School of Rock’s set design was so heavily redesigned for London compared to the Broadway production. If you go onto the Arthur Lloyd website page for the Gillian Lynne Theatre and scroll to the bottom, there are several pictures of the completed auditorium in November 2020. You’ll be able to see the stage and the lack of a traditional proscenium. Additionally, with eagle eyes, you can spot white tape on the stage marking two revolves, which from the recent press videos are part of the set for Cinderella - they near enough take up the whole stage! If you go to 0.30 in the “Rehearsals Begin!” video on Cinderella’s YouTube Page, you can see how they intend to rotate the stage into the audience! The ‘immersive’ nature of set that Carrie alluded to, is shown here! Part of the show is in the round!

Rehearsals begin this week! Hopefully a full cast announcement is imminent! Crikey...that's a bold move... Maybe they've decided to get the show rehearsed and tech-ed now so they're ready to open the minute restrictions are lifted? Newer shows normally do have lengthy rehearsal periods, so maybe this was always going to be the case (rehearsing a long time before opening)?

Pretty sure the dress doesn’t go into the floor anyway. I’m sure when I saw it in NYC it just got sucked backwards upstage. London will have a new ice staircase, I think the first time it will have been done properly. The dress does get pulled through the deck to substage - there are multiple videos proving this. The mechanism is disguised by appearing to be a trap door for the ice spikes. On the US Tour, the dress is pulled into the raised ice staircase truck.

Looks like there will be additional pieces of set coming to London!
Extended ice bridge and new grooves/gaps in the show deck! Wonder what that will mean ?!

Was BTTF always going to go to the Adelphi or was the production eyeing up other venues too?

Smoke & Mirrors & time travel I reckon...that lovely song that they were listening to through a window was clearly backed by a full orchestra. Hopefully we will be getting that (plus more hopefully). Nope! The scores of music on the stands clearly have 13th-14th July 2020 on them!

ALW hasn’t had a hit in years because the shows were all dreadful or had the wrong set (LND and WIW). The pink and dark gray design for Cinderella is dreadful and the new photos I saw today look amateur. Where did you see these new photos ?

I'd be overjoyed if Vicki came back (incidentally I thought she was wonderful as Cleves) I've seen her playing all the queens though, and I wouldn't care who she played as long as she was there! How about Lauren Byrne taking over from Natalie if she does leave? Lauren's a great Jane Seymour. Lauren is apparently staying on tour for the 2020-21 leg, based on who they were auditioning for. What roles were they auditioning for the tour then ?
