Graham Norton, Zachary Quinto and Jack Lowden at Tammy Faye. And Alan Davies! 😁

I don't mind the new recording, but Shakespear with an American accent? No thanks. Completely agree. It doesn't work with an American accent. And he's so bland, it makes you realise how good Oliver Tompsett is. Betsy Wolfe is fabulous though.

Realised I could squeeze this in on Sunday, but £49.50 for a reasonable view at a 65-minute, one-man show seems ridiculously excessive. Are there likely to be any more deals? Hold off booking if you can, prices dropped over the course of today when I was checking. I paid £35 in the end, same seat tomorrow is £50. I sat in the back row of the dress circle, great for legroom and nothing missed in the videos as the overhang lined up perfectly with the top of the screen.

Yeah I wondered about the second show....this year Carousel ran from late May to early July so maybe they'll squeeze one in before Hairspray. Hope so, their productions are generally excellent.

The only thing was that during the duet with Deloris towards the end she literally just stopped singing and went "blimey this is getting rather low isn't it" and Sandra Marvin was in hysterics. Is this the new fake ad-lib to replace Jennifer Saunders comment about being “pitchy”? I think so, Lesley Joseph did the same comment about it being low when I saw it at Curve's press night last week.

Because it's famously used in the Beetlejuice film. Is that why Kate Bush Running Up That Hill was used? Used, rather wonderfully, in Stranger Things Yep I'd say. I don't get any Halloween links to Beyonce or Tom Jones & Stereophonics though.

I'm trying to think of any reason to use the Banana Boat Song in Halloween week. What on earth will they dress as? Because it's famously used in the Beetlejuice film.

That was the worst theme week in living memory. Whoever thought dancing to instrumental TV theme tunes would be good idea needs sacking. I know it was to celebrate the BBC but the whole thing felt cheap and lazy.

Sounds like an emotional final performance. Video on Sam's Instagram stories of him shaking with tears as he took to the stage for the last time. Apparently he also had to stop on the first verse of You Will Be Found as he was so emotional. The atmosphere in there must be electric.

She's another name who the theatre world think is MASSIVE but no-one outside of that world will have any idea who she is from just her name alone, regards of her awards. She's great but she's not a household name, and the Palladium is a big place to fill.

…especially when said board member (waves) based it on the availability of tickets whenever I looked into going. Being prissy and pedantic about it wasn’t a good look. I still love his infamous comeback of saying it was a sold-out run from selling 94% capacity....which isn't sold out 🤣🤣

It will be about the proshot stream release of the Drury Lane concert, doubtful to be anything more exciting than that. Always happy to be wrong though.

Speaking as a volunteer usher, I can assure you.... however many people you'd guess struggle to find the right seats, triple it!
Literally every show I work, I find people in the wrong numbers, wrong rows, wrong levels, even the wrong auditorium. And it's always the customers who swagger in and refuse to lower themselves to speak to ushers who end up getting it completely wrong.
Yes it's the ushers' responsibility to catch misunderstandings on the door when they first walk in, but some aren't as thorough as others, and also if you're on a door on your own with several hundred people coming in, you've got to be be quick and can't catch everything.
But the confusion on people's faces as they try and find their seats does make me smile. Ours is literally rows A-Z with most sensible numbering, and yet you see people staring blankly at the seats as if they're trying to solve a riddle. If you can play Battleships, you can find a theatre seat!! 🤣

Saw this last Friday and completely forgot to post. Took a chance on one of the £10 standing tickets, completely fine. You really don't miss much (although I am very tall) and you can lean on the padded bar. The show flies by as well so you really don't notice the time passing.
As for the show, I liked it. "Nothing happens" isn't true. "Not much happens" is more accurate. But it's more about connection and it's a refreshing change from the mainstream stuff. The music isn't my normal cup of tea but it works in the context of the show ("Omar Sharif" and "Answer Me" are the undeniable standouts). Fans of Emma Kingston should go on her Dina days as she has very little to do in her supporting role. But Miri Mesika as Dina is sublime, captivating, and worth the ticket price alone.

Lots of availability still showing. Booked a £15 RV seat for a Friday evening following Catch Me If You Can at ArtsEd in the afternoon. Never been to the Almeida and seeing Andrew Rannells for £15 seems too good to turn down, especially when the sext next to it is £45!

Would they consider Divina DiCampo after her Hedwig run maybe? Not sure what her reviews were like.

Les Mis but with a better cast, musical versions of Kinky Boots, Priscilla and Legally Blonde, and eventually Sunset Boulevard (with or without Glenn, we can't keep waiting!)

I just wish this show wasn't out in the sticks. Such a treck to get to the theatre It's much easier now the Battersea Power Station has a Tube stop, only 15 minutes from Leicester Square.

When I click 'buy tickets' it says "Online booking for this event opens at 09:00 on 17 Oct 2022. Unfortunately you are not eligible for priority booking on this event.". But in my 'memberships' tab on the account page it definitely recognises I am a 'Donmar Friend'. Is this just outdated info that will correct itself or should I be worried? Probably just a standard message, it opens at 9am, try again then 😀

Unfortunately I think so, yes ☹️ How underwhelming 😅. Yeah...I love me some Beverely but ITW would've made me happier. Sounds like all is not lost on that front though.

Why is he billed as Paul? I’ve never heard of Paul but I’ve definitely heard of Lily! He "retired" Lily 20 years ago, he's more well-known as just himself these days. And he's not performing it as Lily.

Apply to volunteer at a theatre I'm in the process of volunteering for Malvern theatre . Awesome, hope it goes well. I highly recommend it. We need new recruits at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton if anyone's local, drop me a message if you want to know more.

Apply to volunteer at a theatre or join one of the dozens of online reviewing sites as a writer. I do both, I've seen 100 shows this year and paid for 15 of them 😁

As a standalone film, it's not great. As a tongue-in-cheek dose of nostalgia, it's great fun. The leads are clearly having a great time, although it's solely Midler's film (Parker and Najimy have very little to actually do). Lots of nods to the first film, a paper-thin story but who cares really. It's silly Halloween fun. And Hannah Waddingham is incredible despite only being in it for 10 minutes.
