I've finally ticked off Disney's darkest musical, and what a setting for it. The piece suits the cathedral surroundings like a glove, and when the choir gave their first 'ah AH ah, ah AH ah' from the Hellfire refrain at the start, I had goosebumps that rarely went away throughout the rest of the show.
I agree with pretty much everything said above, it's a really strong production of this rare musical and the cast did a great job. There are some real future stars here. The ensemble work incredibly hard and the leads all do a pretty fine job. It's not perfect, some of the acting is a little 'broad', a couple of fluffed lines, but these young people will only get better, and for them to be performing at this standard already is fantastic.
The score sounded so rich and atmospheric in that setting, with Hellfire and Made Of Stone being particularly powerful. I'd forgotten how good it feels to be near great music being sung so well.
The restricted seats really are quite restricted because of the enormous pillars, so get there early and choose wisely. I got as near to the central section as I could but still missed some of the action at the back of the staging area.
Now to watch the Disney animation and then a cheeky bootleg later 😀
Anyone attending today, I hope you really enjoy it.

Glad the read the positive review, really looking forward to this later today (even if I have just accidentally paid for 2 days of car parking... Great start to the day!) 🤣

Yeah the website said 3 hours which does seem long - bootlegs of the show online are about 2 hours 10 minutes so with interval I'm hoping for about 2 and a half hours all in 🤞

Did anyone see this yesterday or catching it today? I'm there for the matinee tomorrow so will report back then 😁
I'm there tonight! Never seen a production of this so I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be beautiful inside the cathedral.
Enjoy tonight! If you wouldn't mind, could you post the running time when you get back later, I'm trying to plan my trains 😁 have a good evening!

This is why I'm not booking for anything at the moment, cancellations are happening all the time now and it's not worth the risk of paying out for advance trains etc. Fingers crossed this vastly improves from next week.

I've seen Wicked 10 times, mostly because of cast changes to see particular witches. Kinky Boots and Priscilla are both tied in second place at 5 times each, but they've been boosted by my usher volunteering so I only paid for a couple of the viewings.
Generally I'll only see a show more than once if one of my friends wants to see it, or if a particular performer goes into it (or I get it for free through volunteering). I'd prefer to see more shows fewer times than keep revisiting the same ones.

I still find it fairly reliable - just checked now out of curiousity and was able to get Six, Anything Goes and Pretty Woman for tonight if I'd wanted them... I know a lot of it is luck but definitely keep checking throughout the day, all isn't lost if there's nothing at 10am.

Happy to say this was better than I'd feared - yes they've saved a few quid on the sets and costumes but it's still a boatload of fun and the performances help elevate it. Edwin Ray is better as Tick than Joe McFadden would've been, and Miles Western (Bernadette) and Nick Hayes (Felicia) are both superb. The Divas sound great too. And you can't beat that medley finale for ending on a high.
It's also been some years since I've seen it so this may be old news, but the tour uses the Broadway opening of 'It's Raining Men' as opposed to 'Downtown'.

Anyone seen this tour yet? I'm volunteering for it in Northampton on Tuesday (and Wednesday!) so I'll report back then 🙂 Saw it in Bath this week. Not the best production of Priscilla I’ve seen but the audience absolutely loved it. Nick Hayes as Felicia was the stand out. Thank you. I'm sure I'll still love it. Even a bad production of Priscilla will still be a lot of fun. According to the website, Joe McFadden isn't playing Mitzi anymore, it's showing as Edwin Ray now. I missed that news!

I'd been keeping an eye on this one, wasn't sure if it would happen with everything going on but I'm glad it is. It's been on my wishlist for ages and surely this is the best version we're going to get until a fully staged version appears in London. The cathedral setting is going to be wonderful.
I've booked for the Friday matinee, one of the partial RV ones. I'll just get there early and elbow the slow folks out of the way 🤣

I've got the 4th episode to watch this afternoon with some kind of chocolate 😀
Also Dove Cameron seems to be treating it as a public audition for Glinda in the Wicked movie.... I wouldn't be mad about that casting!

It's a bit daft but it's just lovely having something theatrical and musical on the telly. Great cast as well. Aaron Tveit has the highest-waisted trousers EVER.

Thank you so much! Grabbed central row N Stalls for the Monday night for £67.75 including fees and insurance, pretty reasonable for Ticketmaster! Looking forward to joining the Theatreboard Night Out! 😂

Performances cancelled from today until 7th August due to Track & Trace legislation.... what an absolute nightmare the theatre world is right now.

Christina will be excellent in this. Shame about the venue selection though, there's nothing near me 😩
Age-wise Christina is about 5 years older than Jane Horrocks was in the film. Jane was 28 at the time of the stage version.

Great news! It will sell, but having it on a Tuesday may not get as many people in as Jeremy's weekend concerts did. Exciting though. I'll be going.
Laura was due to do her Broadway Princesses concert at the Leicester Square Theatre before Covid, I wonder if she'll do that as well while she's here for B&C.
Also 'prices from £32.50'.... wait for the inevitable big numbers to be revealed!

I’m tempted to go see this at the Curve theatre next week, there’s loads of tickets left so does anyone know if the curve does like a discount on the day, like rush tickets ? www.curveonline.co.uk/whats-on/shows/magic-goes-wrong/or should I just go for it and pay full price Thanks I've never known Curve do day discounts I'm afraid, but you could always ring the box office and ask, they can only say no 😀 also if you want to save a few pennies, you could go for one of the cheaper seats, as the Curve doesn't really have any bad views.

Just watched the first one - for anyone who hates musicals, it'll be hell, but it's lovely for the rest of us. It captures the musicals of the Hollywood Golden Age really well. Awesome cast as mentioned above. It could be funnier and it needs a bit of sharpening up, but the ensemble numbers are great and it definitely has potential 👍

Probably Glenn Close in Sunset, Ian McKellen in his recent tour, Danny DeVito in The Sunshine Boys and Bradley Cooper in The Elephant Man.
Also Kylie, Mariah and Gladys Knight if we're venturing off the theatrical stage 💖

I swear there was thread on this last year but I'm damned if I can find it 🤣
Anyway, it's back on, 22 October to 27th November. Ako Mitchell, Jacqui Dankworth and Norman Bowman starring.

I'll be volunteering for it at the Derngate in Northampton at the beginning of August so can report back then unless anyone else is going sooner.
Normally it's such a fantastic show but I am worried if it's been cheapened this time and lost its sparkle.

I was going to say, of all the jukebox musicals, this is one of the least clunky. It's well written and the songs actually fit, rather than all that Mamma Mia shoehorning.
