But still no UK production!? Come on to hell! Hurry upppppppp. I keep thinking this too, the longer it takes the less likely it looks. I imagine it would work best in an On Your Feet! Style transfer rather than an open ended West End run. Either way I’m waiting in eager anticipation! I was thinking it would go down the same route as Addams Family. Tour the country and see how it fares and then announce a West End transfer if it’s successful. That way they don’t lose much because if it’s not a success they can say “it was never our intention to transfer” etc.

Amber Davies wouldn’t be an awful choice. Not at all. And really quite ‘now’. Exactly. Plus she’s definitely got the chops for it and she definitely looks like a Vivienne. She’d be a bigger box office draw than Samantha Barks, although it would be nice to see Barks open a musical on home turf.

The new cast seem to be exceptionally white. Especially Boq. Wow. A black Boq?! One black principal? Give them the Nobel Peace Prize. How silly am I?! I feel so foolish. Lololololol.... There’s 36 cast members. 32 of them are white.

The new cast seem to be exceptionally white. There's definitely one green cast member Also a goat. I suppose I spoke too soon...

My best friend and I regularly get drunk and listen to the show and the first time I ever did drag I performed to Let’s Be Bad!
It always infuriated me how Ivy was vilified for going after what she wanted in anyway she could. Karen was the epitome of privilege so if I was Ivy I’d want to slap the bitch too.

Having slept on it I’ve actually changed my mind. Yes, it’s weird and bizarre and trippy but I suppose we’re experiencing the emotions that people felt when they saw the costumes for the original London production. Some of the cats look unfinished but the sets are magnificent and the cats that ARE finished look incredible. I’m sure once we’re in the cinema and the music is blasting we’ll be wrapped up in the story and we’ll forget about the human/cat hybrids.

There’s that famous story where Idina Menzel fell down a flight of stairs during her last performing of WICKED on Broadway when there was only minutes to go before the show ended. She was taken to hospital and found she’d broken a rib. She came back to WICKED a few days later to resume the show from the final scene while only wearing a red jumpsuit and no green makeup. That was her final performance until she reprised the role in London.

Some context to the INTO THE WOODS story.
The actor playing the Witch, Gillian Bevan, had become ill but the company manager assumed she’d be back within a day or two so the stage manager assumed the role with the script in hand. Melissa Bayern, a recent graduate of Royal Welsh saw the show with the SM playing the Witch and decided to leave her details with the stage manager after the show saying she’d just completed a run at her drama school playing the Witch. The stage manager sent Melissa away as Gillian was due back the following day. Fast forward to the next day and Melissa gets a phone call asking her to come back to Manchester and take on the role for two shows that day! She had five hours of rehearsals and went on stage and apparently she brought the house down. Friends of mine played Jack and Cinderella in the production.

Phew. That was pretty horrendous. It was like a jazzercise class. I’ll skip this production.

There’s a video of Sarah’s She Used To Be Mine on YouTube as well and she sounds great. She has a breathy quality that makes her Jenna seem a lot more vulnerable that other Jenna’s.

I have a friend who got very close to being cast in LES MIS from the open auditioning and years ago another friend got quite far into the audition process for the WICKED tour from the open auditions. Weren’t two cast members from the recent revival of CHORUS LINE found at open auditions?
While the majority of the time they’re just for publicity they do have their benefits.

Apart from Russel Tovey playing Russel Tovey playing Russel Tovey (again) I thought it was a fantastic show. Even down to the casting a multiracial family to show how multicultural the world is nowadays! All the events are so believable that it genuinely makes me a bit uneasy. I absolutely loved the Gran who is absolutely out of touch with everyone else and just says the wrong things! Really looking forward to episode 2.

Does anyone know when the current girls are leaving? Desperate to catch them before they go! And do the girls all have certain days off every week? There always seems to be understudies on, which is great for them! October is when the new West End cast will begin performances.

In an awful sequel to this there’s another cast member of the show who’s insanely homophobic but is smart enough to keep their mouth shut after this drama that’s just taken place. The cast member, who I won’t name, is apparently well known for having outdated views and colleagues of there’s try to avoid them as much as possible.

So on the topic of Company - a friend of mine told me that one of his friends told him that Company is being negotiated to be filmed for Netflix. Nothing is official yet apparently. They were going to broadcast the production into cinemas but the deal fell through and now Netflix have jumped in the ring. Not sure how true this is. I don’t know the person who the information comes from personally but if it were true I’d absolutely sob with gratitude. We’ll just have to wait and see if anything comes from this rumour.

Saw the first preview last night. What a show! It's big, it's loud, it's camp, it's melodramatic! I haven't seen any other productions so can't compare it but it looks like nothing has been scaled down. The cast are fine. Alexandra Burke is doing her best Whitney impression but Beniot is by far the weakest link in the cast. He tried to play subdued too much and it comes across as disconnected - like he sleepwalking through the role and not even trying. Nikki Aaron can SING and was easily the best performer in the show so I'll definitely try to see her playing Rachel because she'll definitely kill it. The male dancers, the stalker and Frank Farmer are all far too good looking... which is hard for me to say as a thirsty gay man. Frank Farmer is obviously a high fashion model and just looks odd when he's around normal looking people. The Stalker was absolutely ripped and walked around half naked most of the night. I'm no casting agent but I don't think it's a good idea to cast a man who everyone in the audience would happily stalk as the stalker! The show is in fine form and it's an absolutely riot. While the book is eye-rollingly bad the musical numbers more than make up for it. I would have liked to see another star in the show other than Alexandra Burke but she does an okay job.

So all four Rachel Marrons are schedule to perform while in Glasgow! Alexandra Burke (obviously), Carole Stennett (again, obviously) and the two cover Rachels, Micha Richardson and I forget the other girl’s name, have been given specific days as well. Micha is performing on the matinee of the 20th, with the 2nd cover Rachel playing Nikki, and then 2nd cover Rachel will be playing the role in the evening. I’m going to try and see both covers on the 20th so I can compare all four.

I suspect Bradley will be nominated, and may very well win, the Oscar for Best Actor. I think Sam Elliot will be a dark horse and get a nom for Best Supporting Actor because small as his role is his performance really stayed with me afterwards and I was surprised by how truly touched I was by him. Bradley will get a nom for Best Director and Gaga will win an Oscar for Best Original Song.
Now for the controversial part: I don't think Gaga will be nominated as Best Actress. While her performance was flawless and captivating there wasn't enough to give her that gut punching role. We never really saw her lose herself in Ally's emotions. This isn't Gaga's fault at all and I think she gave the best possible performance with the material she was given but there were some key moments that would have made her role Oscar worthy that just weren't given to her ie. Judy's breakdown scene in the dressing room. Without a doubt she'll win a Golden Globe and as I've said she'll be given the Oscar for Best Original Song but this year's Oscar belongs to Glenn Close.

Did anyone catch the preview song from this show on Sunday Showtunes a fortnight ago? It was basic and generic and nothing to write home about - it reminded me of 'Touch Me" from SMASH. I suspect this will be the sort of show you'll have to see in the flesh to really appreciate it. I'm a big fan of Julie Atherton, we trained at the same sixth form college and drama school, so I'd love to see this project do well.

The best news is no Ben Platt for Tony. I like the guy, but those rumours filled me with dread. Agreed. He would have made a weird and creepy Tony. His audition tape is so uncomfortable to watch.

Katherine McPhee announced she's going on tour so we've managed to avoid her playing West End Jenna for now. Her tour is only two weeks long so she may still be announced as Jenna.

She definitely wouldn't sell tickets on her name alone but I'd love to see Siobhan Dillion play Jenna. She'd absolutely kill it.
