I’d love to see a truly dark production of The Sound of Music. The threat of the Nazis invading your country to the point you have to leave everything and flee, that’s a very dark turn of events. I don’t want a dystopian style production, just something where the initial joy and sugary sweetness start to give way to the anxiety everyone must have felt during that time.

Saw this today, Ian was off and we had the second understudy, Tim Roberts, as Jesus. I saw the original run in Regents Park, but found this production better. The cast were even stronger and I think being inside helped to focus it even more without being distracted by surroundings. Although initially disappointed not to see Ian after all the hype and clips I'd seen, I thought Tim was excellent. Maybe his big notes weren't quite at Ians level, but that's a very minor quibble. He is certainly the strongest Jesus vocally and acting I've seen. The final part of the show I found very moving and powerful. Shem Omari James as Judas, just out of this world voice. And Hannah Richardson commanded the stage as Mary with again ridiculously strong vocals. I also couldn't believe that all 3 leads had so relatively few leading acting credits. More than matched any more experienced performances I've seen. I enjoyed the overall concept more than I did in Regents Park too. The main two negatives for me were firstly Julian Clary. Yes he is funny and very good at what he does, but he does some what break the tension and focus from the story to him. Secondly the show itself. It really relies on having some prior knowledge to help add context and depth as to who some of the supporting characters are and motivations. But you can't deny the power of the music. Overall though this was one of the most powerful, and vocally strong, pieces of theatre I've ever seen I went to uni with Tim and he is genuinely one of the nicest people. I’m so happy to hear he’s getting good reviews!

I don’t know Matt Henry’s work other than he’s a fab leading man. But from looks alone he is absolutely perfect to step into Stanley Tucci’s shoes!

I really wouldn’t mind the tour being rebooted entirely from scratch. The new version is so barebones compared to previous iterations. This 100% needs to happen, they have largely used the same cast for a number of years now, and the same set for far longer, it is starting to feel really tired now, so much so that I have skipped the current tour when it was in Manchester and Cardiff recently, normally I would have seen it at either (or both) locations. I saw the show in Inverness thanks to free tickets and I did thank god I never paid for the show. It’s unlikely I ever will pay to see this tour again. I saw the show in 2010 in Edinburgh with David Bedella, Hayley Flaherty and Richard Meek, and I remember that production being full of life and the staging being really interesting and immersive. You have to appreciate Hayley and Richard committing to the same role 14 years later but come on now, let the stockings rest.

Why why why have they cast two Australian performers in the lead roles instead of UK casting? I think we're all a bit 'done' with seeing the Strallens work their way through it but there must be UK performers chomping at the bit for these roles. To be fair the same argument is happening over there as a lot of UK performers are cast in leading roles instead of Australian performers.

Well cynthia and ariana confirmed at the oscar’s! So a new trailer or just showing the old one? I suppose that strengthens the rumour. Who knows, we might get a new trailer after all!

people have been saying there’s rumors of another trailer at the oscar’s, what is the likelihood of this!!! also why did universal pictures rescind media permission to use the wicked teaser? what does that mean? It’s more likely that the trailer will be attached to a big summer release from the studio. It’s rare that a teaser and trailer for such an anticipated movie is released so quickly after one another.

As much as the Kenwright production isn't incredible, they have had some gorgeous casting. Carolyn Maitland and Rebekah Lowings were both stunning as Molly. Hopefully we'll get some good casting this time round. Rebekah is an absolute sweetheart! She stayed with me during the Ghost tour and was such a lovely person.

When are we getting a tour of this? Loved it in the WE and would love to see it again but closer to home. I think it would do well in the regions and would make a nice change from seeing the regular Jukebox tours we get. Tour starting later this year/early next year.

What are the chances of a second Wicked movie look at the Oscar’s, 3/10? High or not possible? No doubt they’ll attach the second trailer to a big summer blockbuster. We’d have been more likely to get the teaser at the Oscars rather than the Super Bowl.

No, that is a screen shot from Wizard of Oz. In the book they were silver. The movie changed them to ruby / sequinned shoes to stand out against the yellow brick road on film. Yes, but there was reports that the ruby slippers would make an appearance in the Wicked movie's so I was wondering if the slippers will be changing colors back and forth from silver to ruby Doubtful. In the trailer they were silver when on Nessarose’s feet in the Oz Dust Ballroom, and they were silver when Dorothy arrives to see the Wizard. So it doesn’t seem like they change colour at any point. We may get a surprise and they’ve been changed in post production, but as it stands it looks like they’re entirely silver.

I agree, but as I said above, I loose interest with someone who posts 'rumours' about a show, and then hides peoples replies. My favourite example, was a teaser of the casting for Mrs Doubtfire that 'when you hear you will be sooo excited', but then hid every reply saying that they know it's Gabriel Vick as if they hold knowledge and information over people. That’s fair. This was exactly the point I made in my original comment that restarted this discussion. Thankfully, manchestertheatrefan wrote it a lot more eloquently than me. I do think the accusation of being petty and small-minded was uncalled for however.

Of course it isn't - he basically never posts anything which isn't already confirmed, but calls it a rumour so as not to completely pierce the planned PR strategy for release by announcing it himself. So clickbait? I’ll be honest, you don’t actually seem to have much of a valid point beyond defending your friend. Valiant, but pointless.

Humour me - if something gets alleged on here, does that not make it... a rumour? More to the point, is it not possible that multiple people have heard the same thing? I’ll humour you - if people are getting emails about it then it’s not… a rumour. It’s entirely possible people have heard the same thing, so why hide the replies?

I see that TheatreFan guy just shamelessly posted a “rumour” about the new Chicago tour that he obviously read here, like he’s somehow in the know, but then hides replies when people tell him whatever he’s posting is common knowledge. It’s the absolute lowest form of journalism.

I’m confused, but maybe it’s just this head cold I Can’t shake. If it’s out in November, surely it’s already been made? Were the original leads in the TV show? How can they edit a TV series down to be a movie? The episodes were likely 20 mins max so depending on number of episodes it could be edited down. Not unusual for vocals to be recorded after animated It does seem last minute. There is still conflicting reports on the original stars reprising. I wouldn't take social media stuff as 100% confirmation. Could be a negotiation tactic to show disney they need them. All very messy and last minute regardless. I saw some comparisons from people to some of the straight to video sequels that were originally meant to be a TV series in the 90s and 00s. Let's hope Moana 2 is better than those! There is no conflicting reports. Both stars confirmed their involvement after your article was posted. I don’t know how much more confirmation is needed than the two leads themselves confirming it. Dwayne Johnson also confirms that recording has already taken place: uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/dwayne-johnson-teases-cutting-edge-194331933.html#:~:text=I%20can

It’s interesting that the CinemaCon footage showed mainly interiors while the teaser showed mainly exteriors.
I’m not worried about the use of CGI as the interiors look insane, massive, and lived in. I also believe they’ll continue tweaking the CGI before the release date. Studios are good at listening to the feedback from teaser trailers.

I imagine Wicked: Part One is a fairly good indication that the film is a two parter. Given the backlash to Mean Girls not marketing itself properly I imagine Wicked will want people to know it’s a two parter.

RE: Lin Manuel Miranda - he’s still involved in the live action remake so he’s not exactly out of the franchise. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s heavily involved in the music for the sequel even in an advisory capacity.

One of the cast members directed me in a show and was terrible at it. He truly was a disaster and has no right to direct actors, completely unsupportive to an almost cruel degree. After the opening night I packed up my things and left and never spoke to him again. So I’ll give this a miss.

Some info from someone who apparently worked on the film. They posted on BroadwayWorld.
There isn't a huge amount of difference from the stage to screen version. There are a few bits of back story, such as the film starting at Kiamo Ko in a flashback. Some scenes are added to fill in gaps, such as Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero travelling from Shiz to Oz, on a huge Orient Express type train. Fiyero is now part of One Short Day, There are dance breaks added in places (there are some amazing scenes in the Govs. Mansion!) , some new teachers at the school to expand the animals storyline and of course the two new songs in part 2, 1 each for Glinda and Elphaba.
Glinda's song is a ballad called 'The Girl In The Bubble' and Elphaba gets a song called 'There's No Place Like Home' which is sung when she is banished from returning home and a great tie in to the original Wizard of Oz.film.
The cameo's for Idina and Kristin are in One Short Day and they play actors in the Wizomania cast.
There's no major new storylines that I recall. As Long As Your Mine is shot in a massive birds nest type set, high up in the trees. The sets are spectacular and the details in the sets and costumes are insane.
Those yellow bricks were the flimsiest paper mache bricks ever made. Look out for them in the Wizards workshop scenes too. There are also some amazing gadgets in those scenes, and the' Wizards Head', that is operated by the wizard behind the curtain, is a nassive wooden sculpture, at lease 12ft tall and it's very creepy!
Dorothy is in the film, but no more than she is in the stage show. It's not a speaking role.

I've never heard of this musical, should I have? It’s a stage version of Grease 2, the terrible (but oddly wonderful) sequel to Grease.
