It’s our sixth birthday today. Some of us were here a little while before that, but 21st January 2016 was the day of of our launch. Hasn’t time flown?
Happy Birthday! 🎉 🎂

Thank you to the posters (can’t remember who they were but please feel free to stand up and identify yourselves👍) who originally started TB. I remember there was quite a lot of concern and debate when the original host (Whatsonstage) terminated that forum.
Well done to those posters and thank you to everyone who posts and shares in this forum.
PS Just checked and I joined on 16 Jan 2016🥳.

Happy Birthday!
I’d like to say a big thank you to our moderators. I moderated a food forum in the early 2000’s so I know what a thankless job it is ;-) No forum is perfect, but the actual only reason they last for six years is because of the mods.

Thanks to all those who help to run and moderate the site. It is much appreciated and not easy at times. Apologies to those I may have offended, but it's great to be able to go to a site where there is a common thread. Also good to hear reviews and thoughts on theatre and other stuff too! I checked when I joined too and April 2016 so not too far off the 6 years!

And, of course, some of us oldies can go back further to the Whats On Stsge forum before we moved onto this one and before that the Dress Circle one which was Lord knows how many years ago!

Of course, like the Queen we have two birthdays. The other one is 12th Feb which is when the press releases went out and we went “public”.

I appear to have joined 15 Jan 2016 (from the States) - don't know how I was in early! COVID has prevented any trips to London and environs, so I don't peruse these boards as often - but this site was invaluable in discovery streaming shows (because the UK was so far ahead of the US on that front) both live and recorded. (Although I was only able to watch the first act of the musical version of Wuthering Heights....) perhaps, appropriately, there is this defense of message boards which references Theatreboard, but identifies only two posters by name both from BroadwayWorld - Defense of Theatre Message Boards
(hmm, my user name seems to have changed - it was ggersten)

If I recall correctly I was watching the RSC Richard II-Henry V history cycle over the weekend at the Barbican when the decision to launch was made.

Unfortunately, circumstances mean I haven't been a theatregoer for some time but still like to keep up to date with what's happening through the board.

The second WhatsOnStage forum was set up fifteen years ago; they had another forum before that but I can't remember when that one started. Before that for me it was rec.arts.theatre.musicals.

The one piece of Eastwick gossip I'll always remember was that a certain producer slapped a certain actress! I believe it was someone who worked on the show who would occasionally post the most fascinating stuff.

If I recall correctly I was watching the RSC Richard II-Henry V history cycle over the weekend at the Barbican when the decision to launch was made. I don't appear to have been doing anything theatre-wise on 21st January 2016 so I don't have that excuse for being late. It was probably just because I'm always a late adopter of new technologies!

Jan 20th 2016 I saw The Homecoming at Trafalgar Studios with Ron Cook, John Simm, Keith Allen, Gemma Chan and Gary Kemp. I don't remember a single thing about it.

Blimey has it really been 6 years?? How the time has flown. I was one of the ones who came over from the old Dress Circle board too.
Thanks to everyone involved for the setting up and running of the Board though - it really is great to see so much love and passion out there for live theatre (and a mutual dislike of Bad Behaviour at a Show).

Jan 20th 2016 I saw The Homecoming at Trafalgar Studios with Ron Cook, John Simm, Keith Allen, Gemma Chan and Gary Kemp. I don't remember a single thing about it. I saw this too - my note simply says it was for me a familiar play (studied Pinter) jazzed up with lighting, music and particularly grotesque characters. Ron Cook must have been the father, and Gemma Chan whilst appearing compliant, got the upper hand of the otherwise all male household. Otherwise, I can only recall the terrible seats at the Trafalgar. Having checked my notes, it was a family post Christmas outing to Wicked on 16 Jan, followed by “Waste” at the National. I remembered nothing of the latter, so Google and my notes tell me it was Harley Granville Barker, a political satire, Charles Edwards/Olivia Williams but I only gave it a miserable 2 stars and called it long and dull. Interestingly the Guardian review headline is “Morals, sexual politics and hypocrisy are the big themes in this tragic psychological portrait of a man for whom ideals matter more than individuals.” Ah, how things have changed! (Though in the play was about a principled man, who makes a mistake and falls into a life of barrenness and power play.

Warm and fuzzy reading through this thread. I came from Whatsonstage which I had found by some odd freak of internet serendipity. I was invited to be a Mod possibly because I was opinionated and it was a good way to control my offerings 😁 and I have really enjoyed being here. The other guys do most of the work, all the techie and the close examination of all our machinations. I love the revues of plays and shows and the newsy gossip. I like reading the opinions of theatre minded people on current problems. I think over the last two years this has helped to keep me from drowning in all the internet/ so called social stuff in other places; the anxiety has its own home so to speak. Long may we continue
