Supposedly taking over from either Kinky Boots or Mammy Mia I was going to say Adelphi. I can't imagine Kinky lingering further than 2017. Then again stranger things happened (I'm looking at you, Jersey Boys).

The Phoenix has The Girls now. The main reason this is doing such strong New York business is because of Jessie Mueller. She became a Broadway Big Deal on the back of Beautiful and that means something to both the regular theatre people over there (like us) and to the American tourists, who make up the biggest % of Broadway business.
Over here, the film, the creatives and the cast have pretty much zero recognition for the majority of people. Plonking this straight into the West End would, in my opinion, not work out well. We don't really have a West End performer who has the same kind of pull AND talent as Mueller (I would imagine Kerry Ellis would end up cast, which, well, *shudder*). A limited season somewhere with an option to bring it in if it's a roaring success would be the route I would opt for, personally.

I still think most of the success of this show comes from Sara Bareilles' involvement rather than Mueller's. She's a bigger name in the USA.

Saw this tonight. Overall it's a really good show. Ogie gets a little bit more from the audience from what the role deserves (Christopher Fitzgerlad gives it all), but Jenna and her two sidekicks (and the doctor) work so well together. The sound in the theatre was all over the place. At times all the actors heavily amplified, at times muted.
I actually can see this doing quite okay in London in a similar size theatre. Wouldn't do well at the Adelphi or Piccadilly as suggested before, as they might be a bit too big.

Jessie Mueller is leaving the Broadway production on March 27, 2017. NOOOOO! 1 month before i arrive! Tbh, i had expected she'd leave before i arrived but still slightly gutted - its my most listened to score currently... any replacement rumours? (crossing my finers for Kelly Clarkson... but know thats just a pipe dream...)

So glad I managed to see Jessie in this in the Summer as I won't be back in NY until after she's left. Her She Used To Be Mine was just breathtaking.

Not entirely sure...the producers are definitely wanting it to come over and it has been looking at theatres. However I've heard from 2 different reliable sources that this and another show are both "confirmed" for the same venue, so I think it's still a wait-and-see. Anyway it's clearly a case of when, not if.

Cassie Compton spoke about Waitress earlier this month at the Wedding Singer Hippodrome concert (she performed She Used to be Mine) and it really sounded like the transfer was happening sooner than later.

I would be curious to see her, but I honestly don't think I need to see Waitress again. I saw about ten shows in New York in December, and Waitress, although really a decent show, was by far the safest and least groundbreaking. Therefore it would be perfect for London, a city with a good slew of shows most the time, but are always safe and rather ordinary.

I always thought of it as a perfect match for either of these two theatres. I think the show is just right for Broadway. It's safe, corny, good score and has its fare share of melodrama and slapstick comedy. Would love to see Rebecca Trehearn lead it.

Those are two venues that show was looking at for sure. I'm not sure what the current status of the transfer is - the producers want it to happen but with Annie and the Beautiful extension, it seems to be a case of waiting for the right venue to become available.

Saw this last night and I have to admit it's one of the best shows I've seen this year, if not the best.
As soon as you enter the theatre you are greeted with the aroma of spiced apple and pastry, never before have I experienced such sensory attention to detail at the theatre before, and boy did it really create the atmosphere and excitement I'm sure it meant to.
Sara Bareilles was incredible as Jenna, this is obviously a role she knows better than perhaps Jessie Mueller herself, and it certainly shows. I did notice that this is developing the same fan reaction that I experienced at The Color Purple last year, except it's not quite as extreme - yet. Massive rapturous applause and whooping when she stepped on stage for the first time and then again after each solo. She definitely deserves it, but as a reserved British fuss pot I certainly noticed it.
The strength in this show is absolutely the score, and the entire cast as a whole. It's an incredibly enjoyable evening of entertainment, and I hope it does see a life in London one day.
As a side note, they auctioned off a signed apron worn by Sara that day for Broadway Cares, and they sold two for a whopping $2,500 each!
